Steelers President Art Rooney's grandson slams paying T.J. Watt as 'insane'
Everyone has an opinion on whether or not the Steelers should break the bank on T.J. Watt — and that includes Patrick Rooney Jr. Patrick, grandson of Steelers president Art Rooney II, recently gave his two cents on the contractual situation that's taken Steel City headlines by storm. On Wednesday's Palm Beach Kennel Club Picks podcast, Rooney completely dismissed the idea of paying Watt at a premium on a new extension: Advertisement 'T.J. is a great player, great Steeler — insane to pay him anything right now,' Rooney said. 'Absolutely insane. He's 31 years old. But again, if you're going all-in this year, then you're going to have to re-sign him. You're making moves right now that you're trying to do something this year. That, to me, based on anything you've seen the last few years, seems insane.' Watt wasn't the only Steeler Pat Rooney Jr. took aim at — he also categorized new Steelers DK Metcalf and Jalen Ramsey as 'headcases.' It's worth mentioning that Patrick isn't part of the Steelers front office and has no authority in organizational decisions, but it's still an intriguing take from a member of one of the most prestigious families in all of sports. Regardless, insiders agree that Watt could be set to become the highest-paid defender in the league — with some even predicting he could become the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL. Report: Steelers' new throwback uniform and helmet to be unveiled on July 21
Steelers fans rejoice! We now have more information on the upcoming new throwback helmet and uniform set to be unveiled shortly. According to Andrew Lind of the Pittsburgh Steelers will reveal their new throwback yellow helmets and corresponding uniforms on July 21. Lind wrote that the new jerseys mirror the 2007–2011 throwback uniforms more than the team's Color Rush design, as the striping on the sleeves is slightly different. Advertisement Previously, Steelers President Art Rooney II announced the new throwback jerseys would be worn against the Green Bay Packers — later confirmed to be in Week 8 on Sunday Night Football. The Steelers have had a polarizing assortment of throwback uniforms — such as the infamous 'Bumble Bee' jerseys worn with tan pants — but a return to the all-yellow helmets is a welcome one for the 2025 season. Steelers tease big announcement in cryptic social media post: here's what fans should know
The Pittsburgh Steelers just dropped a cryptic teaser on social media — and while fans are dying to know what's in store, a previous report may shed light on the announcement to come. Advertisement Previously, Steelers President Art Rooney II announced the new throwback jerseys would be worn against the Green Bay Packers — later confirmed to be in Week 8 on Sunday Night Football. The potential return of the gold helmets and black jerseys with all-gold lettering would be a welcome one — especially if Aaron Rodgers gets the opportunity to don the throwback uniform against his former protege, Jordan Love.
