Pakistan: 7 killed in deadly armed clashes in Balochistan's Chaman, over a dozen injured

Seven people killed and over a dozen others injured after armed clashes exploded in Chaman, a town in Pakistan-administered Balochistan read more A deadly armed conflict exploded in Pakistan's Chaman on Sunday, killing 7 people and injuring over 12 others. The clashes broke out between two opposing groups in the Pakistan-administered Balochistan province, Ary News reported. Police sources told the Pakistani news outlet that one of the critically injured victims succumbed to injuries later, raising the death toll to 7. It is pertinent to note that Chaman is a precarious border town located in Balochistan near the Afghan frontier. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD As per the report, the conflict demanded an urgent intervention by Frontier Corps (FC) personnel, who somehow managed to stop the fighting. However, the persistence of high tension in the region has led to the blockage of the Quetta-Chaman highway by one of the groups at Qila Abdullah, Ary News reported. This eventually resulted in a massive traffic jam with long queues of stranded vehicles. One among many Soon after the clashes were controlled, local officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Qila Abdullah, tribal elders, and religious scholars, gathered at the Jungle Pir Alizai police station to evaluate the situation. What makes the matter concerning is the fact that the Chaman armed unrest is the latest in a series of violent incidents that have taken over the province. The town itself faces instability due to tribal arguments and border tensions. However, what makes the incident significant is the fact that the Quetta-Chaman highway blockade that followed has upset trade and travel between Pakistan and Afghanistan, highlighting the importance of the crucial route. The Pakistani authorities noted that efforts are being undertaken to negotiate with the parties involved and reopen the highway. In the meantime, security forces remain on high alert in the region. Amidst the chaos, on Sunday, a video showing the killing of a man and a woman in Balochistan circulated online and drew criticism. The public outrage eventually prompted actions from provincial officials, Ary News reported. The video led the government to send footage to NADRA for biometric analysis. Eventually, officials successfully identified the individuals and tribal ties involved. However, the name of the prime suspect remains hidden. Interestingly, Shahid Rind mentioned that such acts are not authorised by Pakistani law, and tribal councils (jirgas) have no legal standing in resolving criminal matters. Polio continues to cripple Pakistan as virus yet again detected across 20 sewage samples

Poliovirus has been detected in 20 sewage sample testing across Pakistan, as reported by ARY News on Sunday citing National Reference Laboratory. As per Ary News, referring to details, the National Reference Laboratory has completed nationwide sewage sample testing, with the Poliovirus detected in a total of 28 sewage samples from 20 districts, including Islamabad, have tested positive for the virus. Citing sources, Ary News observed that the environmental samples collected from sewer lines tested positive for Wild Poliovirus Type 1 (WPV1). These environmental samples were taken between May 8 and June 17. In Sindh, 14 sewage samples from 10 districts tested positive for polio. Three samples in Lahore also came back positive. In Balochistan, samples from three districts--Mastung, Khuzdar, and Sibi--confirmed the presence of poliovirus. Five samples from four districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also tested positive. Two samples from two locations in Islamabad were also confirmed positive. In PoJK, one sample from district Mirpur tested positive for the poliovirus. Earlier this year, Pakistan had recorded over 60,000 cases of polio vaccine refusal during its nationwide anti-polio campaign conducted between April 21 and 27 this year, according to a report by ARY News citing official sources. The ARY News report stated that a total of 60,906 polio vaccine refusals were documented during the country's second national polio eradication drive of 2025. Sindh reported the highest number of refusals, with 39,073 cases, out of which more than 37,000 were from Karachi alone, the report said. Balochistan followed with over 3,500 refusal cases, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded a vaccine refusal rate of 0.4 per cent, according to the data. Instances of parental refusal were also reported from Punjab and Islamabad, as per the ARY News report. The reluctance to vaccinate remains a significant hurdle in Pakistan's battle against polio. The latest data comes amid confirmation of another new polio case in the country, bringing the total number of cases in 2025 to 13. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), polio is a highly infectious disease caused by a virus. The virus is transmitted person-to-person, mainly through the faecal-oral route or, less frequently, by a common vehicle (for example, contaminated water or food), and multiplies in the intestine. The disease can cause paralysis and even death, with no cure available. However, vaccination remains the most effective way to protect children from this crippling disease. Multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine and completing the routine vaccination schedule for children under five are crucial to providing high immunity against polio. Children under 5 years of age are mainly affected by polio, according to the WHO. However, anyone of any age who is unvaccinated can contract the disease. There is no cure for polio, it can only be prevented. The polio vaccine, given multiple times, can protect a child for life. Pakistan is one of the two polio-endemic nations in the world, alongside Afghanistan. The number of polio cases reduced significantly every year in Pakistan until the recent rise in cases. Despite national campaigns being conducted in Pakistan to eradicate polio, southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains a challenge due to access issues and barriers to house-to-house vaccination, leaving many children unvaccinated and vulnerable.

After India puts ban on Pakistani artists, Youtube channels and Instagram accounts of actors like Hania Aamir, Pakistan pulls off Indian songs from its radio stations

India has taken some major action against Pakistan after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. While the suspsension of the Indus Waters Treaty was a major move, Pakistani actor Fawad Khan 's movie will now not be allowed to release in India on May 9. Moreover, India banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels for allegedly circulating false and misleading narratives against India, spreading misinformation and 'disseminating provocative and false content'. This list of banned channels includes Samaa TV, Ary News, Dawn News, and Geo News, among others. Meanwhile, the Instagram accounts of Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan among others are banned in India. Now in retaliation to this, Pakistan has pulled off Indian songs from all its radio stations. Earlier, songs of legends like Kishore Kumar , Lata Mangeshkar and even new singers like Arijit Singh, Shreya Goshal were dominating Pakistan's radio channels. Now, as per a report by Bollywood Shadis, the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) confirmed the decision on May 1. Pakistan's Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar said in a note, " This decision demonstrates a strong sense of national solidarity on behalf of the PBA... I deeply appreciate the initiative of the PBA on its own, which upholds the dignity and sovereignty of the nation. This shows we all stand united in promoting national unity and supporting core values during such testing times. We acknowledge with pride the efforts of all media stakeholders who continue to act in the national interest and support government efforts directed towards promoting unity, peace, and patriotism." While Hania's Instagram account is blocked in India, a report went viral which stated that the actress has personally sent a request to PM Narendra Modi to reconsider his decision. However, she has now stated that this is not true. "Recently, a statement has been falsely attributed to me and is being widely circulated on social media. I want to address this directly: I did not make this statement, and I do not endorse or align with the words being linked to me. It is entirely fabricated and misrepresents who I am and what I believe," she clarified.
