Ex-CM Kamal Nath alleges ‘irregularities' in teacher transfers in Madhya Pradesh
Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Kamal Nath on Thursday launched a strong attack on the BJP-led state government, alleging large-scale irregularities in the recent transfer of over 7,000 school teachers. Kamal Nath accused the government of running a transfer-posting racket in collusion with middlemen and officials. He alleged that only those teachers who paid bribes were able to secure transfers, while many eligible candidates were ignored. 'Over 45,000 teachers had applied through the government's School Education Department portal for voluntary transfers, but only 7,000 were approved. This indicates that only those who paid money got transferred, while genuine applicants were left out,' Kamal Nath claimed, citing media reports. The allegations relate to a recent statewide reshuffle of teachers from primary to higher secondary schools, where transfers were made for those who had served over five years at a particular school. Kamal Nath alleged that the state's online transfer system, Education Portal 3.0, meant to ensure transparency, has been subverted. He claimed that middlemen were acting as brokers, collecting money from teachers to influence postings. Under the current system, the district collector and the minister in charge of the district play crucial roles in the transfer process. In the voluntary transfer process, applications submitted online are reviewed at the district level and approved with the digital signature of the district education officer. Ironically, the inclusion of ministers in the process a few years ago was intended to prevent irregularities and enhance transparency. The BJP swiftly rejected the allegations. Ashish Agrawal, Madhya Pradesh BJP's media in-charge, dismissed Kamal Nath's claims as politically motivated. 'During Kamal Nath's 18-month tenure, Vallabh Bhavan (the state secretariat) had turned into a full-fledged transfer industry. Now, under the BJP government, transfers are being handled transparently and verified at multiple levels,' Agrawal said. He further alleged that the Congress party, rattled by a string of electoral defeats, was trying to malign the image of the ruling government.

All about that BaaS: Can a new business model help Hero MotoCorp turn the EV tide?
Next Story Ashish Agrawal The company recently launched its first electric two-wheeler under the battery-as-a-service model, but intense competition and persistent losses in the segment mean it could take years just to break even. The E2W business remains challenging for Hero Motocorp. Photo: Bloomberg Gift this article Hero MotoCorp Ltd's launch of its first electric two-wheeler (E2W) under the battery-as-a-service (BaaS) model will significantly reduce the entry barrier for the segment and perhaps help expand the market. The BaaS model offers a substantial drop in the purchase cost and variable charges based on the customer's actual usage. Yet, with the intense competition and persistent losses in the E2W segment, it could take the company a few years just to break even. Hero MotoCorp Ltd's launch of its first electric two-wheeler (E2W) under the battery-as-a-service (BaaS) model will significantly reduce the entry barrier for the segment and perhaps help expand the market. The BaaS model offers a substantial drop in the purchase cost and variable charges based on the customer's actual usage. Yet, with the intense competition and persistent losses in the E2W segment, it could take the company a few years just to break even. At ₹ 59,490 (ex-showroom), the base model Vida VX2 Go is 40% cheaper than the same model without BaaS, along with running charges of ₹ 0.96 per km. The strategy has greater significance for Hero because of its higher share in the entry-level market. 'We see the VX2 as a strategic move by Hero to build scale in India's mass 2W electric vehicle segment by blending affordability, functional utility, and Hero's expanding charging network (3,600+ points)," said Nomura Global Markets Research in a 1 July report. Nomura's analysts, however, said that hadn't yet seen general consumers in India warming up to BaaS, adding: 'Hence, we will keenly observe the response as this product holds promise." The company could be taking cues from the traction generated by the first electric four-wheeler based on BaaS model launched in September, which achieved sales of 20,000 units in six months. Margin challenges Yet, the E2W business remains challenging. The company's E2W Ebitda margin in FY25 was negative 95%, albeit much better than FY24's negative 155% margin, management said in the March-quarter earnings call. It needs a monthly run rate of 25,000-30,000 units to break even, against the current average of 7,000-8,000. The company aims to double this by March 2026, and increase its market share to 12-15% from 7% in March 2025. Hero has also filed for production-linked incentives (PLI) for Vida V2 Pro and expects to receive approval this month. Meanwhile, Hero recorded 10% growth in overall sales to 554,000 units in June. This marks a smart reversal from the 21% drop seen in the first two months of FY26. The revival in June was led by exports, which rose 140%, though they account for just about 5% of the total. Yet, June quarter (Q1FY26) volumes declined by 11% to 1.37 million units, dragged down by the performance in the first two months. While the two-wheeler market remains strong thanks to strong rural demand, Hero continues to lose market share. In the eight quarters to Q4FY25, its market share declined by about 910 basis points (bps) to 41.5% in motorcycles and 620 bps to 28% in two-wheelers. However, volumes may increase with the 100 bps reduction in the repo rate, which reduces the cost of financing. Note that about 63% of FY25 sales were through financing. Rich valuation despite correction To be sure, the company's declining market share has weighed in investor sentiment. Hero's shares are down about 23% over the past year vis-à-vis a drop of 4% in the Nifty Auto index. Despite the correction, the stock's valuation of 17 times estimated FY26 earnings, as per Bloomberg consensus, is higher than the long-term average of about 15. Market-share gains are crucial for the stock's trajectory. However, subdued performance in the 110-cc motorcycle segment, where Hero has a strong presence, and intense competition in the 125-cc motorcycles segment could curtail the company's market-share gains in the coming years. Also, the launches of premium models are expected to increase its market share by only 200-300 bps (its current share is 2%) with weak brand positioning versus the competition, according to a Kotak Institutional Equities report. IST to be mandatory time reference, govt asks banks, Sebi to discontinue using other systems
Denny generated AI Image NEW DELHI: Ahead of making the use of Indian Standard Time (IST) as the mandatory time reference for all legal, commercial, digital and administrative activities, the govt on Wednesday asked industry, stock exchanges, Sebi, banks and those dealing with critical infrastructure to discontinue use of alternative systems such as GPS. Consumer affairs ministry Pralhad Joshi told reporters that his ministry will soon come out with rules making IST mandatory, which is the 'official and legal time of India'. This will secure India against cybersecurity vulnerabilities such as spoofing and jamming. The armed forces have been largely using IST with the time reference also used in Operation Sindoor, an official said. He added that GPS signals were denied to India during the Kargil War and also during the Mumbai terror attacks, in which terrorists were using satellite phones and the Intelligence Bureau had no information on how they were connected to foreign locations. 'Time keeping in the country is still dependent on a foreign satellite like GPS and we want to move away from GPS. Timekeeper National Physical Laboratory (NPL) has an accurate time scale, which is of the order of a few nanoseconds with respect to the world time,' said senior NPL official Ashish Agrawal. The consumer affairs department, Isro and NPL have developed an indigenous timekeeping system, which includes five atomic clocks at different locations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo The initiative aims at delivering IST with millisecond to microsecond accuracy through five Regional Reference Standard Laboratories (RRSLs) equipped with the atomic clocks. Consumer affairs secretary Nidhi Khare said, 'So far, we were dependent on external sources for time dissemination. We have Indianised the entire ecosystem of time and the department is now ready with the dissemination process.' This initiative will translate into more secure digital transactions, accurate billing in utilities, reduced cybercrime risks and synchronised timekeeping in transportation and communication. At present, several systems rely on foreign sources of time.

Can A Bee Sting Cause Heart Attack? What Doctor Said
Can a bee sting cause a heart attack? A senior doctor was asked in an exclusive interview with NDTV. Dr Ashish Agrawal, Director of Cardiology at Aakash Healthcare, said that normally, if a bee stings the tongue, it will cause a mild allergic reaction, but in some patients, it could lead to a heart attack. "If the tongue gets stung, the bee's venom immediately dissolves into the blood, and that blood can cause a process which is called an allergic reaction. Now, normally, a patient can have a mild form of allergic reaction, like just mild itching, and that's all," he said. "But in certain individuals, those patients who are predisposed to allergens, they can have a severe form of allergy, which is called anaphylaxis. And this can cause a heart attack or a cardiac arrest," he said. Mr Agrawal said that the severity of allergy has a very wide spectrum. "Some people are allergic not only to bees, they are allergic to some dust, pollens or some drugs or even some food items. So, this form of allergy, this severity of allergy, has a very wide spectrum. That means a patient can have a mild form of itching and up to anaphylaxis, which is called the most severe form of allergic reaction, and it actually can cause a cardiac arrest," he added. How Can A Patient With Severe Reaction Be Saved? "Anaphylaxis is a form of medical emergency. At times, the patient does not even get a few minutes to make it to the hospital. So, it is very difficult and it varies from patient to patient how much time a patient gets," said Dr Agrawal. "The patient needs to be taken to the hospital immediately, and in case of a cardiac arrest, CPR has to be given, some life-saving drugs need to be injected into the patient, and usually, if a patient reaches the hospital in time, he can be saved," he added. Meanwhile, the close friends and family of Sunjay Kapur, Chairman of Sona Comstar Ltd, have denied media reports that suggested he died after being stung by a bee. A final post-mortem is awaited, but a heart attack is suspected to have caused the death of the 53-year-old businessman who collapsed during a polo match in England on June 12. What Is Anaphylaxis? Anaphylaxis is a severe and life-threatening allergic reaction that spreads quickly throughout the body, according to the National Institute of Health. It can start with mild signs like skin rashes or itching, but can rapidly lead to serious problems like difficulty breathing and a sudden drop in blood pressure. This condition can be caused by triggers such as bee stings, certain foods, or medicines. Some reactions involve the immune system's antibodies (called IgE), while others do not, but still look similar. Immediate treatment with an adrenaline (epinephrine) injection is critical. Medical teams must act fast to recognise and manage the reaction to save the person's life.
