Association of PGI resident docs mark day dedicated to them with wellness session

Chandigarh: The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), PGI, celebrated Doctors' Day with its first-ever grand event — Vitana 1.0, a celebration dedicated to the tireless commitment and compassion of resident doctors. Prof Vivek Lal, director, PGI, was the chief guest. Senior faculty members and consultants were also present in large numbers to support and join the celebrations. The evening began with a financial wellness session, addressing the often-overlooked but essential aspect of doctors' lives — financial planning and security. This was followed by a cultural evening where residents showcased their diverse talents through music, dance, and drama. A symbolic cake-cutting ceremony marked the spirit of unity, dedication, and resilience of doctors at PGI. Renowned comedian Pritish Narula had the audience in splits with his stand-up comedy performance, adding humour to the evening. The celebration concluded on a high note with a DJ night and dinner, where residents, faculty, and guests danced and dined together. "Vitana 1.0" truly embodied the spirit of gratitude, wellness, and togetherness — a perfect ode to the doctors who continue to serve humanity with unmatched dedication. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Vishnu Jinja, president of the Association of Resident Doctors, said: "Vitana 1.0 was our heartfelt effort to express appreciation for the relentless dedication of resident doctors, who balance demanding professional commitments with personal sacrifices every single day. We aimed to create an event that nurtures not only professional growth but also personal well-being and camaraderie. We are grateful to the administration and faculty for their support and hope to make this an annual tradition that grows bigger and better each year." "Violence against doctors unacceptable, will be pursued to fullest extent of law": ARD condemns assault of doctor at Chandigarh's PGIMER

Chandigarh: The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) on Friday expressed deep concern and anguish over an incident of alleged assault of a doctor, which occurred on May 22 (Thursday) at approximately 12.20 PM at the Neonatology Unit (NNN-ICU) of Chandigarh's PGIMER. According to a statement from PGIMER, a Junior Resident Doctor from the Department of Paediatrics was physically assaulted by the attendants of the baby of Prabhleen Kaur, who is currently under treatment in the NNN-ICU. President of ARD, Vishnu Jinja strongly condemned the incident and proposed multiple security enhancements across the institute. "This kind of violence cannot and will not be tolerated in a healthcare setup. Doctors are here to heal, not to be hurt. The safety of every healthcare worker is non-negotiable," ARD president Jinja said, according to the statement. "This shocking act of violence not only endangers the safety of healthcare professionals but also disrupts the sanctity of a caregiving environment meant to serve patients with dedication and care," the statement read. Upon learning of the incident, representatives of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) immediately reached the site to support the assaulted doctor, ensure their safety, and assist in initiating appropriate legal action. An official complaint was promptly lodged, and a First Information Report (FIR) was registered within hours against those responsible. The statement further mentioned that the Director of Chandigarh PGIMER was also informed about the incident, who has taken full cognisance of ARD's concerns and has assured timely and appropriate action in response to all demands raised. Meanwhile, the hospital security department has been asked to ensure a comprehensive investigation and to implement preventive protocols to avoid the recurrence of such incidents, added ARD president. ARD further reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the protection and dignity of healthcare professionals and urged all stakeholders to stand united against any form of violence in medical institutions.
