Charlize Theron 'not allowed' to use slang

Charlize Theron's daughters won't let her use their favourite slang words. The 49-year-old actress - who has adopted kids Jackson, 12, and nine-year-old August - think she is "too old" for certain popular terms, while she is "not allowed" to use other phrases because they have gone out of fashion. Walking the red carpet in a fishnet Givenchy outfit at the Los Angeles premiere of her latest movie The Old Guard 2, Charlize told Extra of her look: "August gave it a thumbs-up." Host Terri Seymour then asked: "What do they say? Would it be 'snatched'? Do we say you're looking 'snatched'?" Charlize admitted: 'Apparently, I'm not allowed to say it. There's so many things I'm just not allowed to say anymore. I'm still learning my way. ''Rizz' is something that I can't say. Nobody says it, apparently. There's a lot of like, 'You can't say that because you're old,' but she was like 'Nobody even says that anymore,' so every day is an education. All of it. "Things change so fast… I wouldn't go by my understanding of this very intricate language of the Gen Alphas and Zs." And while Charlize "loved" her retro hairstyle in The Old Guard 2, she recently admitted her kids were horrified by her mullet. Speaking on Late Night with Seth Meyers, she said: "I have two girls, and they're very, very... they're mostly very girly. And they think of me as a princess. And they want Mom to look like a princess. "But they came back from school. I was in my bathroom and I was getting it cut and it had already been coloured. And I just remember looking over and they both came into the room really excited, and then they just both froze. And they just went... and one started crying. "One literally started bawling their eyes out. And I had to actually sit down with her and say, 'We all get to be who we want to be. And right now, Mom wants to wear a mullet.' I don't tell you what to do with your hair." Impersonating one of her children, Charlize added: "I still don't like it." The Mad Max: Fury Road actress revealed last month that her children are unimpressed by her Hollywood career. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Theron quipped: "My children have zero respect for me. "It's just unbelievable, I feel like I'm pretty humble, but every once in a while I'm like, 'There's a f****** Oscar right there.' They are so not impressed with me." Charlize recalled an incident when her youngest child unflatteringly compared her with Tom Cruise. She explained: "I was picking up my youngest from dance yesterday and we drove past the new Mission Impossible poster where Tom Cruise is hanging onto some yellow plane, and he just looks really cool. "My kids were with me when I shot Old Guard 2 and I worked on this incredibly intricate sequence where we brought in this amazing helicopter pilot, Fred North, and we were gonna choreograph me fighting helicopters and jumping on this real helicopter and hanging off. Shooting 99 per cent of it on a real helicopter as it's trying to shake me off like a rag doll. "We took like two weeks to shoot this sequence and I was like, 'Wow, I just did that, that's really amazing.' And my child yesterday just looked at this poster of Tom Cruise and went, 'It's weird, he looks so much cooler than you did when you were hanging off the helicopter.' "I was just like, 'I hung off the helicopter, [can I have] some credit?'"

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, Fold 7, and tri-fold availability leaked

Samsung is going to unveil its new Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 foldable smartphones next month, alongside a possible Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. Availability for these phones will start shortly after, though the tri-foldable — possibly named Galaxy G Fold — will be available for purchase a little later in the year. Leaked Galaxy Z Fold 7 render. | Image credit — Evan Blass According to a report ( translated source ), the Flip 7 and Fold 7 will become available to the general public in August, approximately one month after their announcement. Samsung will be holding a Galaxy Unpacked event in New York City on July 9, where these phones will be shown off. The Flip 7 FE, though not directly named in the leak, will most likely also become available in August after being announced in July. Samsung has promised its most advanced foldable yet, and from leaks we can see that the Fold 7 makes the Fold 6 look ancient. Samsung's tri-fold will directly challenge the Huawei Mate XT. | Video credit — Huawei The tri-fold, which will see a very limited release in a select few markets, will also be unveiled in July, alongside the Flip 7 and Fold 7 . However, though there isn't a confirmed date just yet, the report estimates that this phone will become available in tracks with Samsung's plans to launch it this year shortly after its other foldables, before moving on to a wider launch around the globe if it sells well. The G Fold will only see around 200,000 units manufactured for now, as Samsung has very subdued sales expectations due to the cost. According to the multiple reports we've seen till now, the Fold 7 is shaping up to be a massive leap over its predecessor. The only aspect I can complain about is the battery, which is expected to be the same 4,400 mAh as the Fold 6. It will also only charge at 25W when wired, another somewhat disappointing remnant that desperately needs an upgrade. However, seeing rival offerings like the Oppo Find N5 and the Honor Magic V5, I think it's about time Samsung caught up. Coupled with the long-term software support ( seven years ) and people's preference for One UI, Samsung could be looking at a winner here. The Fold 7 may even reverse the foldable industry's decline, though that may just be wishful thinking. If you were looking for the most advanced foldable on the market, you'd probably still do well with the aforementioned Find N5 and Magic V5. But if software support is important to you, the Fold 7 or the G Fold are your best bet. Secure your connection now at a bargain price! 'I Thought I Could Still Work A Little': Retiree Hit With Surprise $9,648 Social Security Overpayment Notice

When one retiree left his job in last August and applied for Social Security at age 63 and 5 months, he thought he was doing everything by the book. In a post on Reddit, he shared that his first check came in September — but just a few months later, he was shocked to receive a letter stating he owed the Social Security Administration $9,648 due to overpayment. The issue? His earnings for the year had already exceeded the annual limit for Social Security recipients under full retirement age. Here's what went wrong — and what other soon-to-be retirees can learn from it. If you begin collecting Social Security before reaching full retirement age, there are limits on how much you can earn from working without seeing your benefits reduced. In 2024, the annual earnings limit was $22,320. If you earn more than that, the SSA withholds $1 for every $2 you earn above the limit. The retiree in this case had earned about $48,500 before quitting his job in early August. That was well over the annual limit, which automatically triggered a full clawback of his 2024 benefits. Since his first four checks added up to $9,648, that entire amount was marked for recovery. Many retirees don't realize there's a special rule for those who retire mid-year. This rule allows you to use a monthly earnings limit in your first year of retirement, instead of the full-year limit. In 2024, the monthly limit was $1,860. That means if you earned less than $1,860 in a given month, you could still receive your full Social Security payment for that month — even if your total earnings for the year were above the annual limit. In this retiree's case, he earned only $900 from August through December — well under the monthly threshold. Under the special rule, he may still qualify to keep the benefits he received in those months. Trending: This Jeff Bezos-backed startup will allow you to become a landlord in just 10 minutes, with minimum investments as low as $100. If you receive an overpayment notice and believe you qualify under the monthly earnings test, the SSA does allow certain months to be excluded from the annual earnings test. According to SSA guidelines, these are months where your earnings were below the monthly threshold and you were considered retired. To correct the record, the SSA recommends contacting them directly to report your earnings. You can do this: By phone or online, to inform them of months when your earnings were below the monthly limit. By requesting a waiver if repaying the full amount would cause financial hardship and you believe the overpayment wasn't your fault. This involves submitting Form SSA-632-BK. One user on the Reddit post also suggested submitting a signed statement that includes their total earnings and identifies the specific months they believe should be counted as "non-work" months. Keep in mind that different rules may apply if you were self-employed. The SSA generally considers more than 45 hours of work per month as substantial, even if your income was low — which could disqualify those months from being counted as "retired." Social Security rules can be confusing — especially when it comes to working while collecting benefits. If you're planning to retire mid-year, it's important to understand the special earnings limit rule and how to report your income correctly. By planning ahead and notifying the SSA about your work and earnings, you may be able to avoid unexpected overpayment notices — and keep more of your benefits in your pocket. X Announces New Original Program From the NFL to Boost Sports Engagement

This story was originally published on Social Media Today. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Social Media Today newsletter. X has announced its 18th X Originals video series, with a new 'NFL Top 100' program set to air exclusively on the platform from next week. As explained by X: 'Produced by NFL Films, 'NFL Top 100' will feature three-to-five-minute episodes highlighting the league's top 100 players, as voted on exclusively by current NFL players. Episodes will debut weekdays at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. ET on X and NFL+ beginning June 30 and running through Friday, August 29.' So, it'll also air on NFL+, which makes it a semi-exclusive, I guess. But either way, it'll give X another big sports show to add to its slate of video programming, as it looks to boost video engagement, in line with its publicly stated 'video-first' focus. X has maintained Twitter's broadcast partnership with the NFL, and has worked with the league on various activations, including its in-app gameday portal. And given that sports is the most popular topic of discussion in the app, and the NFL is the most discussed sport, it makes sense for X to make this a focus, especially as Meta looks to incorporate its own sports engagement options on Threads. It also makes sense for the NFL, with millions of fans engaging in the app. The series will run for 10 weeks, leading into the 2025 NFL season, and will ideally help to maintain X as a key platform for NFL fans. Though, given its 'video first' focus, X is still lagging behind in terms of original content. As noted, this will be X's 18th 'X Originals' program, though most of the programming that it's signed up has been fairly niche. At this stage, X's Originals have been: Khloe Kardashian in her 'Khloe in Wonderland' interview show Anthony Pompliano in his business-focused program 'From the Desk of Anthony Pompliano' Paris Hilton, in a yet-to-be-announced project (which now seems to have been dumped) Tucker Carlson, whose interviews had been generating millions of views in the app (before he migrated to his own platform) Don Lemon, whose X show was canceled after he interviewed Elon Musk Tulsi Gabbard, who had been developing a series of documentary-style programs focused on U.S. politics (now seemingly dumped) Jim Rome who's still airing his show 'The Jungle' in the app WWE, which is airing a weekly 'WWE Speed' show in the app The Big 3 league of retired NBA players, which aired weekly games in the app last season (now airing on CBS) Rap battle show Verzuz, which is looking to make a comeback on X Investment-based show 'Going Public' Football docu-series 'The Offseason' NHL's '4 Nations' tournament Athlos athletic events Special docu-series 'The Art of the Surge' focusing on Trump's re-election, and 'All-In with the Boston Celtics' X is also set to air a new program with Venus and Serena Williams later in the year, which is another big-name sports program, aligning with X user interests. But as you can see, X hasn't really attracted, or held onto any major name content, and it's hard to view the platform as a 'video first' offering as yet, despite what X itself keeps saying. I had expected X to attract some bigger-name shows, using the connections of CEO Linda Yaccarino, who previously headed ad partnerships at NBCUniversal, and presumably has a huge Rolodex of connections to call up as a result. But thus far, those connections seem to only have brought in some big names from yesteryear, like Paris Hilton, and a lesser Kardashian. X had also made a splash on political content, signing up various commentators last year. But given the way that the company, and Elon Musk specifically, handled the deal with Don Lemon, that could have also spooked some big names, and kept them away from the app. But then again, on the flip side, 18 X Originals is significant, and X says that it's hosted over 300 episodes of its Originals programs over the past two years. It doesn't feel like X's video push is really gaining traction, and its far from what most would consider a 'video first' platform as yet. But video views in the app are rising, and as it continues to look for new content partners, maybe that will, eventually, yield more significant growth results for the app. Which, of course, is the key focus. Despite X's proclamations of massive innovation and progress, the app is pretty much the same as it was when Elon took over, in terms of functionality at least, and it's gradually losing users over time, while Threads continues to gain. That's seemingly pushing X to refine its programming focus onto its key areas of audience interest, as opposed to promoting political ideology, and that could help to yield better audience results, and engagement, or at the least, keep its key audience segments from drifting off to other apps. Really, this is the same lesson that Twitter learned with its past video content efforts, that it needs to hone in on what its audience wants, though even then, it could never quite get the balance right, and capitalize on its popularity as a second-screen option for major events. Will X do better on this front? Right now, it seems like it's just working to keep a hold on what it has, as the competition heats up for user engagement.
