JPJ to blacklist foreign motorists for unpaid AWAS summonses starting July 1

MELAKA: Motorists from neighbouring countries who fail to settle their Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) summonses will be automatically blacklisted by the Road Transport Department's (JPJ) system from July 1, according to Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli. The JPJ director-general stated that the blacklist will also apply to Singapore-registered vehicles via data obtained from the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) records. "We will blacklist foreign vehicles based on the VEP and other entry records," he said after leading an inspection of express buses at the Melaka Sentral Bus Complex on Tuesday (July 1) to check compliance with the mandatory seat belt regulation for passengers. Aedy Fadly mentioned that motorists issued with AWAS summonses will be given a 60-day grace period from July 1 to settle the fines. "Those who fail to do so within the stipulated period will be blacklisted automatically by the department's system," he said. Aedy Fadly also announced that the JPJ's special flat-rate compound payment offer of RM150, initially scheduled to end on June 30, has been extended until the end of this year. The offer applies to three types of offences involving three categories of JPJ summonses: the Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) summons (53A), Notice 114 (investigation interview notice), and Notice 115 (affixed summons notice). Aedy Fadly said 412,256 AWAS summonses have been paid, while 1,542,135 are still unpaid. He noted that for Notice 114, 24,709 summonses have been cleared, while 311,866 remain unsettled. "As for Notice 115, 5,905 summonses have been settled, with 171,321 still outstanding. The public is encouraged to take advantage of this extended offer by settling their outstanding summonses before the offer period ends on December 31," he added.

JPJ extends RM150 special summons payment offer until Dec 31

MELAKA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has extended its Special Compound Rate Payment Offer of RM150 until December 31. The offer, which initially ended on June 30, now gives motorists more time to settle outstanding summonses. JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli confirmed the extension applies to three categories: Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) summonses issued from October 2018 onwards, Notice 114 (inquiry notices), and Notice 115 (driver's detail requests) issued in 2023 or earlier. 'Only 442,870 summonses have been settled under this offer since January 2. There are still 2.03 million unsettled summonses, with AWAS cases making up the majority at 1.54 million,' he said during a press conference at Melaka Sentral Bus Terminal. Aedy Fadly warned that unresolved summonses will lead to automatic blacklisting starting today. 'If an AWAS notice remains unpaid after 60 days, JPJ will blacklist the vehicle or driver. However, around 100 companies with outstanding summonses have until July 8 to settle before enforcement begins.' Motorists can check and pay summonses via the MyJPJ app, MySIKAP portal, JPJ kiosks, mobile counters, or service centres.

Special compound rate payment offer extended until Dec 31, says JPJ

MELAKA: The Special Compound Rate Payment Offer (flat rate) of RM150, which ended Monday (June 30), has been extended until Dec 31, says the Road Transport Department (JPJ). JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the extended offer applies to three categories of summonses - summonses issued under the Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) from October 2018 onwards, Notice 114 (notice to attend an inquiry), and Notice 115 (request for driver's details) issued in 2023 or earlier. "As of yesterday, only 442,870 summonses have been settled under the Special Compound Rate Payment Offer (flat rate) introduced since Jan 2. "According to our records, there are still 2.03 million unsettled summonses, with AWAS summonses being the highest at 1.54 million," he said. He was speaking to reporters after a Special Operation on the Use of Seat Belts on Express and Tour Buses, held at the Melaka Sentral Bus Terminal here Tuesday (July 1), which was also attended by Melaka JPJ director Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop. Aedy Fadly said there are 311,866 outstanding summonses under Notice 114, and 171,321 under Notice 115. He added that failure to settle any compoundable summonses - whether overdue or beyond the compound period - will result in the vehicle being automatically blacklisted by JPJ's system starting Tuesday. "For example, beginning today, if an AWAS notice is not settled within 60 days of issuance, JPJ will blacklist the vehicle or the driver concerned. "Except for around 100 companies with outstanding summonses, as announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke last week, we are giving them a 14-day grace period until July 8… after that date, blacklisting will be enforced," he said. He therefore urged all members of the public with outstanding compoundable summonses for the three categories - previously set at RM300 - to settle them promptly before Dec 31. The public can check and pay their summonses via the MyJPJ app, the MySIKAP Public Portal, JPJ kiosks, JPJ Mobile counters and JPJ service counters. - Bernama

Transport Ministry to overhaul Kejara demerit system for immediate enforcement

SHAH ALAM: The Transport Ministry will revamp the Sistem Keselamatan Jalan Raya (Kejara) demerit system, following its failure to effectively penalise traffic offenders. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the system, which was designed to deduct demerit points from drivers who commit traffic violations, has not been functioning as intended. ALSO READ: Transport Ministry sets deadline for speed limit device activation on heavy vehicles 'We acknowledge that the Kejara system is not working. It has failed to deduct points from drivers with outstanding summonses. 'This overhaul is aimed at addressing the current loophole, where many drivers avoid penalties simply by not settling their fines. 'The revamp will ensure prompt and consistent enforcement so that errant drivers are held accountable without unnecessary delays,' he said at a press conference today. The Kejara system was introduced in 2017 as part of the Automated Awareness Safety System (Awas), aimed at reducing road accidents by identifying and penalising repeat traffic offenders. Under the system, drivers who accumulate too many points risk having their driving licence suspended or revoked.
