JPJ extends RM150 special summons payment offer until Dec 31
The offer, which initially ended on June 30, now gives motorists more time to settle outstanding summonses.
JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli confirmed the extension applies to three categories: Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) summonses issued from October 2018 onwards, Notice 114 (inquiry notices), and Notice 115 (driver's detail requests) issued in 2023 or earlier.
'Only 442,870 summonses have been settled under this offer since January 2. There are still 2.03 million unsettled summonses, with AWAS cases making up the majority at 1.54 million,' he said during a press conference at Melaka Sentral Bus Terminal.
Aedy Fadly warned that unresolved summonses will lead to automatic blacklisting starting today. 'If an AWAS notice remains unpaid after 60 days, JPJ will blacklist the vehicle or driver.
However, around 100 companies with outstanding summonses have until July 8 to settle
before enforcement begins.'
Motorists can check and pay summonses via the MyJPJ app, MySIKAP portal, JPJ kiosks, mobile counters, or service centres.

JPJ Enforcement and Prosecution Policy director Zulkarnain Yasin said that since the enforcement began on July 1, a total of 123,706 passengers and drivers were inspected during checks on 3,257 buses — comprising 2,459 express buses and 798 tour buses nationwide. Of that total, only 305 summonses were issued — 238 to express bus passengers, 43 to tour bus passengers, and 24 to bus drivers. 'The compliance rate is very high... Alhamdulillah, and I would like to thank Malaysians for their cooperation. 'I urge all bus drivers, passengers, and motorists to always wear seat belts for everyone's safety,' he told reporters after a bus inspection operation at Putrajaya Sentral last night. Starting July 1, it is mandatory for all drivers and passengers of express and tour buses, manufactured after January 2020, to wear seat belts. For buses built before 2020, operators will be given a grace period to install seat belts. Passengers or drivers who fail to comply will face a RM300 fine, while bus companies may also face legal action for not ensuring passenger safety. — Bernama

High seatbelt compliance in Malaysia with only 305 summonses issued

Since the regulation took effect on July 1, only 305 summonses were issued out of 123,706 passengers and drivers inspected, reflecting a compliance rate of 99.75 per cent. JPJ Enforcement and Prosecution Policy director Zulkarnain Yasin shared the findings after a recent inspection operation at Putrajaya Sentral. A total of 3,257 buses were checked, including 2,459 express buses and 798 tour buses. Of the 305 summonses, 238 were issued to express bus passengers, 43 to tour bus passengers, and 24 to bus drivers. 'The compliance rate is very high... Alhamdulillah, and I would like to thank Malaysians for their cooperation,' said Zulkarnain. He urged all bus drivers, passengers, and motorists to continue wearing seatbelts for safety. Kota Kinabalu: The wearing of seat belts by drivers, express bus passengers and tour bus passengers is compulsory as a measure to reduce the risk of injuries and fatalities during road accidents. Sabah Road Transport Department (JPJ) Director Datuk Mohd Harris Ali said the enforcement of this regulation began on July 1. Advertisement 'Bus operators and drivers also play a role by ensuring all passengers wear seat belts before the journey starts. 'This is vital in reducing the risk of serious injuries and deaths in the event of an accident, as well as preventing passengers from being thrown out due to impact during a collision,' he said. Enforcement operations are currently being carried out at bus terminals, rest stops and highways across Malaysia, including undercover operations on buses. 'Passengers are also encouraged to report to drivers if the seat belts are not in good condition. Failure to comply with this directive by drivers, passengers and operators will result in a fine of RM300,' Harris told the media during an operation at KK Sentral Bus Terminal, Friday. He said JPJ would continue to conduct advocacy to educate the public on the importance of complying with the seat belt regulation for express buses and tour buses. 'JPJ Sabah is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of road users,' he said, adding that to enhance enforcement of seat belt compliance, JPJ Sabah has involved 286 enforcement officers. According to Sabah road accident statistics from 2020 to May 2025, there were 1,315 fatal accidents and a total of 93,189 accidents. 'These figures highlight the urgent need to strengthen safety compliance,' said Harris.
