How Ironheart Lays Groundwork for Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday
Despite centering around the MCU's latest tech genius, Riri Williams, 's executive producer Ryan Coogler has said that he believes that the series will go a long way in setting up Doctor Doom's introduction in the much-awaited Avengers: Doomsday. In a recent interview, the Black Panther director opened up about how the content of the upcoming Disney+ show will help in laying the groundwork for Avengers 5. During his red carpet appearance at the Los Angeles premiere of Ironheart, Coogler noted that the combination of technology and magic in the series will serve as a 'sample' for what fans can expect to see in Avengers: Doomsday. (via Deadline) 'It's so crazy to be putting this movie out now, at the time where AI is on the front of everybody's mind, technological ethics are on the front of everybody's mind,' the acclaimed filmmaker said, before adding, 'we didn't know it was going to be Dr. Doom and the Avengers when we first started, but he's a guy in publishing who's most famous for fusing technology and magic, so it's a great sample of things that are to come in probably what's going to be the biggest movie in Marvel history.' Aside from building upon the story of Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams, Ironheart will also introduce MCU fans to Anthony Ramos' The Hood, a low-level vigilante who somehow gets his hands on a mystical cloak that draws power from the same magic wielded by Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange. At the same event, Thorne also teased how her character will attempt to balance her technological skills with spectral magic in the Ironheart show, which will serve as a precursor to things to come in Avengers: Doomsday. 'I think it's a hilarious journey and also a really tempting journey that we see her go on once she realizes the full extent and capability of the magic side of the world,' the actress said. The Ironheart series is on track to come out on Disney+ today. Meanwhile, Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on a delayed release date of December 18, 2026.

Avengers 5 & 6 Rumored to Bring Back Mark Ruffalo's Hulk
A new industry rumor speculates that Mark Ruffalo will return as Bruce Banner / Hulk in Avengers: Doomsday and will also appear in Avengers: Secret Wars. Notably, the character last appeared on the big screen in the mid-credits scene of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2022). Ruffalo's last live-action appearance as the MCU Hulk was in the 2022 Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. He also voiced variants of the character in several episodes of What If…? Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus claimed in a recent post on X (previously Twitter) that Ruffalo would appear as Hulk in Avengers 5 and 6. 'Yes. Mark Ruffalo is in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars,' Perez shared while responding to a fellow user's query on whether the Poor Things actor would be in the next Avengers movie. In late March 2025, Marvel Studios announced the cast of Doomsday, but Ruffalo, whose Hulk has been part of the MCU Avengers since the team's inception, was not among those listed. In April 2025, MCU boss Kevin Feige hinted at the 2025 CinemaCon that the Doomsday cast was not yet complete, teasing that more members could be announced in the future. Ruffalo debuted as Bruce Banner / Hulk in the MCU in The Avengers (2012) and has been one of the most consistent parts of the franchise since then, even though he never appeared in a solo project based around his character. Previously, the Hulk was portrayed on the big screen by Eric Bana in Ang Lee's Hulk (2003) and Edward Norton in Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk (2008). Notably, the Russo Brothers are directing Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The former will come out on May 1, 2026, and the latter on May 7, 2027. In an unusual move, Marvel has started to rebrand its movie "Thunderbolts*" under a different name, "The New Avengers," just three days after it hit theaters. The Florence Pugh-led movie was advertised with an asterisk as part of its official title, and in the final scene, its lead group of heroes is given the name The New Avengers. During the credits, the title card "Thunderbolts*" is then replaced by "The New Avengers," implying this was the real title all along. Now, Marvel has started changing the name of the film in various places, including on its social media accounts, to reflect this. On May 5, the studio shared a video on X showing Pugh, surrounded by her co-stars, ripping off a layer of the "Thunderbolts*" poster to reveal the "New Avengers" title underneath. "New Avengers!" the cast shouts in the video, only for a shushing sound to be heard because the clip was presumably being recorded before the movie's release. "The secret is out," Marvel said in another X post featuring the new version of the poster with the updated title. The official X accounts for IMAX, Dolby and Fandango all shared new posters with the "New Avengers" title, as well, and a poster with the altered name replaced the original "Thunderbolts*" one on Fandango so moviegoers will see it when purchasing tickets. The "New Avengers" name also replaced the "Thunderbolts* title on at least one billboard, and Marvel even shared a video showing star Sebastian Stan walking up to a bus stop to personally swap out the old poster with the new one. This not a drill: We've got a new team of Avengers. And they're probably not the folks you expect. In 'Thunderbolts*,' a B-team of Marvel Cinematic Universe supporting players levels up to the A-list, though they have to navigate past traumas – and tussle with one of their own – in an emotional final act. The Void spreads an eerie darkness across the Big Apple, seemingly erasing New Yorkers from existence and leaving a body-sized black mark in their place. In a desperate gambit, the Thunderbolts enter The Void itself, and each hero is forced to live out a past trauma or regret – even Bob. To win the day, the teammates rally around Bob and give him a group hug, putting everything back to normal. They find Valentina trying to scurry away on the street and go to confront her, but it's a trick: They walk right into an impromptu press conference, where she proclaims, 'Ladies and gentlemen, meet the new Avengers!' The team is taken aback, though Yelena whispers in a worried Valentina's ear, 'We own you now.' Director Jake Schreier reveals that on the day of filming, they sent extras home early before Louis-Dreyfus did her takes uttering the A-word to keep it a secret. 'It's just a name, right? But still, you feel something,' the filmmaker says. Why does 'Thunderbolts*' have an asterisk? Comic-Con 2024 was the first time the title was touted with a mystery punctuation mark. Marvel president Kevin Feige said at the time that he wouldn't talk about the asterisk's meaning until the movie's release. And this is why: Before the credits roll, the 'Thunderbolts*' title appears and has changed to 'The New Avengers.' 'I don't think there's another studio or another kind of movie that has the eyeballs on it where you could do that, which is kind of a crazy move after you've spent all that money marketing a movie called one thing and then reintroduce it as something else,' Schreier says. (It's an homage to the twist at the end of the first 'Thunderbolts' comic book in 1997: A new superhero group calling themselves Thunderbolts saves New York, but it's really the villainous Masters of Evil in disguise.) So will 'The New Avengers' now be on the Blu-ray, post-release merch and everything else going forward? 'You might see some billboards shift a little bit on Monday morning,' Schreier teases. Does 'Thunderbolts*' have any post-credits scenes? There are actually two. The mid-credits scene features Red Guardian – in his civilian clothes, not the usual Soviet super-soldier garb – in a grocery store cereal aisle. Now national heroes, the Thunderbolts have made the cover of a Wheaties cereal box and he tries to impress a stranger by showing it to her. 'That's me on the box!' he exclaims proudly as she walks off, weirded out. The more important one comes at the very end of the credits. Set 14 months later, the scene catches up with the new Avengers – clad in spiffy gear with the trademark 'A' on it – in their headquarters. Bucky is helping Yelena lead the team, which is apparently now locked in a copyright battle with Sam Wilson, who seems to want to start his own non-governmental Avengers squad. (Wearing a track suit with 'New Avengerz' on it, Red Guardian calls Captain America a 'dumb litigious man.') Bob is off to the side, not able to use his powers in order to keep The Void at bay – 'I did the dishes, though,' he says. With a space crisis at hand, Yelena gets a warning of an extra-dimensional craft approaching and they view a screen that shows a sleek spaceship entering orbit. 'Cool ship,' Walker cracks as it rotates to reveal the Fantastic Four logo on the side. It's the biggest set-up yet for the upcoming event movie 'Avengers: Doomsday' (out May 1, 2026), which promises the Fantastic Four, a number of Avengers and even a bunch of X-Men. And it also gives Pullman somewhere to go next in exploring his character's conflicting sides. 'The deeper you dive on one part of Bob, the more questions arise from the other two,' he says. 'Every chapter has its own arc, so it's really exciting to see what the arc will be in 'Doomsday.' '

While Marvel Studios has officially confirmed 27 actors for the Avengers: Doomsday, ongoing rumors suggest that Halle Berry's Storm could be a last-minute addition to the film. The recent reveal of Avengers 5's cast interestingly left out some big names, including Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), and Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), among others.
