Maal Hijrah calls for unity, compassion, progress, says Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: The Islamic new year of Maal Hijrah 1447 should serve as a renewed commitment to strengthening unity, cultivating compassion, and building a peaceful, progressive and resilient nation capable of facing any challenge, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Deputy Prime Minister said Awal Muharam is a significant moment for self-reflection, renewing resolutions, and reinforcing the spirit to continue striving for improvement as individuals, families, communities and as a nation. "God willing, may this new year bring abundant blessings, grace, and strength for us to move forward with confidence and trust in His plan," he said in a Facebook post Thursday (June 26). Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said this year's Maal Hijrah theme, "Membangun Ummah Madani", reflects the importance of upholding universal Islamic values for the greater and more inclusive benefit of society. He said the theme fosters the development of a progressive society that is mindful of humanitarian aspects, social justice, unity, economic growth, and siyasah (governance). "With the many crises and global challenges occurring today, we must also see this as a call to build a stronger Muslim society, one that is resilient and has a firm identity," he said. - Bernama
