Motorcyclist dies at home following June 25 crash in Pasir Penambang

KUALA LUMPUR: A 71-year-old motorcyclist, involved in a crash at Jalan Pasir Penambang, Kuala Selangor, has died at home due to traumatic brain injuries sustained in the incident. Kuala Selangor police chief Superintendent Azaharudin Tajudin said police received a report on the death at about 9.10am yesterday. He said preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred at approximately 5.44pm on June 25 and involved two motorcycles. "The incident took place when the victim, riding a Yamaha SS2, was travelling from the main road in Pasir Penambang towards the public market. As he attempted to turn right from the left lane, a Modenas Kriss motorcycle, ridden by a 31-year-old foreigner coming from the opposite direction, was unable to avoid a collision," he said in a statement today. Azaharudin said the victim sustained injuries to his leg and head and was immediately taken to Tanjong Karang Hospital for treatment. The other rider sustained only minor injuries to his leg and elbow. "Yesterday, the victim was pronounced dead at home and was later taken to the forensic unit of Tanjong Karang Hospital for a post-mortem, which confirmed the cause of death as traumatic brain injury secondary to a motor vehicle crash," he said. The case is being investigated under Section 44(1)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing injury by driving under the influence of alcohol, and further investigations are ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is urged to contact the Kuala Selangor district police operations room at 03-3289 1222 or visit the nearest police station.
