Besut MRSM bullying case worsens as two more students detained
JERTIH: Police have detained two additional students from Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) Besut in connection with a bullying case, bringing the total number of arrests to seven. Besut police chief Supt Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu confirmed the two Form Three students surrendered at the district police headquarters with their families at 4 pm today. Five students were earlier remanded for three days, while the latest detainees will face the Kuala Terengganu Magistrate's Court tomorrow for a remand order. The investigation is conducted under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting. In a separate report, another Form Two student alleged he was bullied by the same group at the school hostel on Tuesday night. The victim claimed he was forced into a semi-squat position with slippers on his head for 40 minutes, punched, and slapped, resulting in pain and bruises. Azamuddin stated the victim suffered injuries to his legs, stomach, and ribs. Authorities continue to probe the escalating case.

Two more MRSM students arrested over bullying incident
BESUT: Police have arrested two more students from Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) in connection with a bullying case involving a Form Two student at the institution. Besut district police chief Superintendent Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu said police received a second report from another 14-year-old male student who also claimed to have been a victim in the same incident. "The report was lodged at 3.58pm at the Besut district police headquarters on Thursday. "The second victim alleged that he was bullied by the same group of students at around 11.30pm on June 24, in the boys' dormitory at MRSM Besut," he said in a statement today. He said the victim sustained injuries to both his right and left legs. "Two male suspects, both aged 15, were arrested at 4pm today after presenting themselves at the Besut district police headquarters with their families. "A remand application for both students will be submitted to the Kuala Terengganu magistrate's court tomorrow. "The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting." Previously, it was reported that five other students , aged between 15 and 17, had been remanded for three days beginning today, after allegedly being involved in the bullying of a 14-year-old student. The remand order was issued by Assistant Registrar Yuhanis Mohd Roslan at the Kuala Terengganu magistrate's court earlier today. Azamuddin said the incident is believed to have occurred in the boys' dormitory at around 11.30pm on Tuesday and was discovered by the on-duty warden.

JERTIH, June 27 (Bernama) -- Two more students from the Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Besut, Kuala Terengganu have been detained by police in connection with an ongoing bullying case at the school. Besut police chief Supt Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu said the two Form Three students were detained at 4 pm today after presenting themselves at the Besut district police headquarters with their families. "The arrest of the two brings the total number of detained students from the school to seven: six Form Three students and one Form Five student. "Today, five students have been remanded for three days while the two students who were just arrested this evening will be brought to the Kuala Terengganu Magistrate's Court tomorrow to obtain a remand order," he said in a statement today. He said the remand order was issued against all suspects to enable an investigation under Section 147 of the Penal Code (for rioting) to be carried out. In a related development, Azamuddin said yesterday evening his department received a report regarding another Form Two student who was also allegedly a victim in the same incident. "The victim claimed to have been bullied by the same group in the incident that occurred at 11.30 pm on Tuesday at the boarding school's hostel, resulting in pain in both right and left legs." Azamuddin said in a statement yesterday that a Form Two male student at Besut MRSM claimed he was bullied by several seniors in the hostel at 11.30 pm on Tuesday. He said that based on the report by the victim, he was ordered to crouch in a semi-squat position with slippers placed on his head for 40 minutes, punched in the stomach and slapped, causing the victim to experience pain in his stomach and right rib as well as bruises on the back of his body.

19-year-old loses RM62,000 to phone scam
JERTIH: A 19-year-old lost RM62,000 after being duped by a phone scam syndicate on Thursday (June 26). Besut district police chief Supt Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu said the unemployed teenager answered a phone call from an individual who introduced himself as a representative from Touch 'n Go headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. 'The individual claimed that the victim's father had a RM25,000 summons related to a Touch 'n Go account. The call was then supposedly connected to the Perak police contingent headquarters, where the victim spoke to a (fake) police officer. 'The victim was further shocked when she was told that a bank account opened in her father's name was involved in a money laundering and drug case,' he said in a statement on Friday (June 27). Azamuddin said the suspect asked the victim to pay RM60,000 if she wanted to clear her father's name. Because she was afraid, the victim sold jewellery belonging to her mother, a retired teacher, to get money for the payment. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. – Bernama

Five MRSM students remanded over bullying of Form Two student
KUALA TERENGGANU: Police have arrested five students to assist in investigations into the bullying of a Form Two student at Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) in Besut. The suspects, comprising four Form Three students and one Form Five student, have been remanded for three days starting today to facilitate investigations under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting. Assistant court registrar Yuhanis Mohd Roslan granted the remand order when the suspects, aged between 15 and 17, were brought before the Kuala Terengganu Court Complex this morning. It was reported that police received a report regarding the bullying incident involving the Form Two student at 6.48pm on Wednesday. Besut district police chief Superintendent Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu was quoted as saying investigations revealed that the 14-year-old victim was forced to remain in a semi-squatting position with a pair of slippers placed on his head for about 40 minutes. "The victim also claimed he was punched in the stomach and slapped by several Form Three students while in the boys' dormitory of the college around 11.30pm last Tuesday. "As a result of the incident, the victim sustained injuries to his abdomen, ribs, and back," he said. He added that the incident was noticed by the duty warden, who then brought all those involved to the warden's office. "The victim's guardian was subsequently contacted, and the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment," he said. Earlier today, six MRSM students who were found to have bullied the victim were expelled from the institution. Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki stressed that there would be no compromise on such actions under any circumstances.
