UN says 875 Palestinians have been killed near Gaza aid sites

Mourners bury the bodies of Palestinians from the Azzam family, killed in an overnight Israeli strike on their house, according to medics, at a plot of land due to the lack of space in Gaza's overcrowded cemeteries, in Gaza City July 15, 2025. (REUTERS/Khamis Al-Rifi) GENEVA —The United Nations (UN) rights office said on Tuesday it had recorded at least 875 killings within the past six weeks at aid points in Gaza run by the U.S.- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation and convoys run by other relief groups, including the UN. The majority of those killed were in the vicinity of Gaza Humanitarian Foundation sites, while the remaining 201 were killed on the routes of other aid convoys. The GHF uses private U.S. security and logistics companies to get supplies into Gaza, largely bypassing a U.N.-led system that Israel alleges has let Hamas-led militants loot aid shipments intended for civilians. Hamas denies the allegation. The GHF, which began distributing food packages in Gaza in late May after Israel lifted an 11-week aid blockade, previously told Reuters that such incidents have not occurred on its sites and accused the U.N. of misinformation, which it denies. The GHF did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the latest UN figures. "The data we have is based on our own information gathering through various reliable sources, including medical human rights and humanitarian organizations," Thameen Al-Kheetan, a spokesperson for the U.N. Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, told reporters in Geneva. The United Nations has called the GHF aid model "inherently unsafe" and a violation of humanitarian impartiality standards. The GHF said on Tuesday it had delivered more than 75 million meals to Gaza Palestinians since the end of May, and that other humanitarian groups had "nearly all of their aid looted" by Hamas or criminal gangs. The Israeli army previously told Reuters in a statement that it was reviewing recent mass casualties and that it had sought to minimise friction between Palestinians and the Israel Defence Forces by installing fences and signs and opening additional routes. —Reuters The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has previously cited instances of violent pillaging of aid, and the U.N. World Food Programme said last week that most trucks carrying food assistance into Gaza had been intercepted by "hungry civilian communities".

Education sector secures EGP 2bn via securitised bonds: FRA official

Islam Azzam, Deputy Chairperson of Egypt's Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA), announced that the education sector has secured EGP 2bn through three securitisation issuances, marking a significant step in the development of non-banking financial tools to support education in Egypt. Speaking at the 4th Annual Education Investment Summit, Azzam outlined the FRA's expanding toolkit to attract investment in education and enhance its long-term sustainability. He pointed in particular to the growing use of future cash flow securitisation, which allows educational institutions to monetise projected revenues—providing crucial liquidity for infrastructure development and service expansion. 'Between 2022 and 2024, we've seen meaningful progress in securitisation, with education playing a leading role,' Azzam said. 'This mechanism allows institutions to diversify funding sources, reduce capital costs, and accelerate the construction of new schools—contributing directly to improved education outcomes.' Azzam also highlighted the strategic role of insurance in protecting both human capital and infrastructure in the education system. Coverage is already provided to students at all educational levels through the state-run insurance fund, including Al-Azhar institutions. This coverage includes protection against accidental or natural death, injury, and disability. The FRA is also working to expand education-specific insurance products, including policies that allow families to continue paying tuition in the event of a parent's death or disability. Plans are underway to broaden health insurance for students and provide comprehensive risk coverage for schools and universities. In addition, Azzam discussed efforts to align academic training with job market needs—especially in the insurance and finance sectors. A notable initiative involves collaboration between the Insurance Federation of Egypt and local universities to develop actuarial education programmes, sponsored by the FRA. He stressed that capital markets offer a variety of funding tools, including sukuk and securitisation bonds, even for companies not publicly listed. Recent changes to accounting standards now allow institutions to revalue assets based on market price, opening further financing avenues. Other non-banking solutions include lease finance, which is being used to secure buildings, equipment, and transportation services with flexible repayment terms ranging from three to five years. Meanwhile, consumer finance products are helping students and families manage the costs of tuition, school supplies, books, and even postgraduate and professional education. 'These tools are essential for expanding access and embedding a culture of lifelong learning,' Azzam noted.

Seven killed, including children, in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza

Ammon News - At least seven Palestinians were killed and several others injured early Sunday in a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting Gaza City and Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip. According to local medical sources, five people — including two women and a child — were killed when Israeli warplanes struck a tent sheltering displaced families in the Al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis. Several others sustained injuries in the same attack. In a separate airstrike, two children were killed and more civilians were wounded when Israeli forces targeted the home of the Azzam family near the Daloul petrol station in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood of Gaza City. Meanwhile, Israeli forces continued to demolish residential buildings in central Khan Younis. Heavy artillery shelling was also reported in the Al-Mawasi area of Rafah, compounding the already dire humanitarian situation in southern Gaza. The ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza since October 2023 has so far resulted in at least 56,412 documented Palestinian fatalities, with over 133,054 others injured. Thousands of victims are feared trapped under rubble, inaccessible to emergency and civil defense teams due to Israeli attacks.

All-electric Porsche Taycan Turbo GT goes fastest once again

This Taycan has 580kW of power on tap which increases to 760kW during launch. The ridiculously fast Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has just gone and added the Yas Marina Circuit to the growing list of global racetracks where it is officially the fastest production battery electric vehicle. The record lap time of two minutes 7.247 seconds was set using the current 5.2km F1 GP World Championship circuit in Abu Dhabi. Strict regulations A new official lap record format from the Emirates Motorsport Organisation (EMSO) dictates that cars undergo strict scrutineering prior to track activity. This is done to ensure the cars are being run standard production car trim and specification. On track activity is then limited to a 60-minute practice session, followed by a 45-minute qualifying session. It's during this qualifying session that the lap record time must be set. ALSO READ: Porsche's most powerful jolt ever released called Taycan Turbo GT UAE-based GT racing driver and instructor Ramez Azzam was the man behind the wheel of the Porsche Taycan for the record attempt. 'We all know electric vehicles can be fast in a straight line. To be fast over a whole lap is where the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT really shines,' said Azzam. Eye-popping oomph Using the expertise Porsche has developed from its championship-winning 99X Electric race car that competes in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the Taycan Turbo GT is able to bring that technology to the street as the most powerful production Porsche ever. The car offers 580kW of power for normal use. But this number jumps up to a full 760kW with launch control activated. An optional Weissach package is available for the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. What this means for the man in the street is that there are no rear seats. There is also more carbon fibre and this in turn offers a better power-to-weight ratio. The Weissach package saves 75kg while a fixed rear wing provides extra downforce. Porsche Taycan Turbo GT race-ready The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT comes standard with lightweight ceramic brakes based on the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake. The car is also equipped with the Dynamics Package that includes the Porsche Active Ride suspension with GT-specific tuning. The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is said to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 2.2 seconds. And reach a top speed of 305km/h. If only The Citizen Motoring could get our hands on one, this Porsche just might be able to topple Mercedes-AMG's GT 63 S E Performance Coupe from the top of our sprint table too.
