Contractors to move HC over ₹90,000 crore pending govt dues
Pune: Frustrated over mounting unpaid bills from state govt, the Builders Association of India's (BAI) state unit has decided to file a writ petition in the Bombay high court seeking recovery of dues worth ₹90,000 crore. The state BAI unit, led by chairman Jagannath Jadhav, recently met deputy chief minister and finance minister Ajit Pawar and public works department (PWD) minister Shivrendra Raje Bhosale to press for clearance of the dues. According to BAI, PWD owes it ₹46,000 crore. "Despite repeated representations and follow-ups over the past one year, the ministers gave no assurance on a payment timeline. We are left with no option but to seek legal recourse," said Anand Gupta, immediate past vice president of BAI, on Tuesday. "There are sops that have been offered by state govt as schemes and they are busy allocating funds for them. Hence, they are ignoring our demands," the member said. The prolonged delay triggered a financial crisis for contractors, with some unable to pay staff or suppliers. Several departments have pending dues since last year and the association has submitted a break-up to the deputy CM, a statement from BAI said. Apart from PWD, Jal Jeevan Mission has an outstanding of Rs18,000 crore and rural development has Rs8,600 crore among others, the statement said.

It was a historic first for India, with two women's singles shuttlers finishing on the podium in the same edition of the event. Vennala fought valiantly against China's Liu Si Ya before going down 15-21 18-21 in 37 minutes. Down 15-20 in the second game, the young Indian saved three match points to raise hopes of a comeback, but a late error at crucial time allowed Liu to seal the contest in straight games. On the other court, second seed Tanvi Sharma lost 13-21 14-21 to eighth seed Yin Yi Qing of China in 35 minutes. After dropping the opening game, Tanvi staged a spirited fightback in the second, racing to a 6-1 lead. However, Yin clawed her way back to level at 8-8 before pulling ahead to secure the win. For Tanvi, it was yet another impressive performance, having finished runner-up at the US Open Super 300 tournament last month. Solo [Indonesia], July 25 (ANI): India's young shuttlers Tanvi Sharma and Vennala Kalagotla continued their impressive run at the Badminton Asia Juniors Individual Championships 2025, advancing to the semifinals in Solo, Indonesia, as per a Badminton Association of India (BAI) press release. Second seed Tanvi maintained her dominant form in the women's singles, defeating fifth seed Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan of Indonesia 21-19, 21-14 in a swift 35-minute encounter. Tanvi has been in sublime touch throughout the tournament, securing all her wins in straight games so far. Joining her in the last four is Vennala Kalagotla, who braved a strong challenge from Thailand's Janyaporn Meepanthong in a gripping 58-minute contest. Vennala took the opening game 21-18 with some sharp rallies, but Janyaporn fought back to edge the second 21-17, forcing the match into a decider. In the final game, Vennala pulled ahead in the closing stages, eventually sealing a 21-18, 17-21, 21-17 victory to earn her semifinal berth. Both Indians now face Chinese opponents in the semifinals, with Tanvi set to take on eighth seed Yin Yi Qing and Vennala going up against Liu Si Ya. The competition is being held from July 18 to 27, and Tanvi Sharma, along with junior world number one men's pair of Bhargava Ram Arigela and Viswa Tej Gibburu, are leading the team. The competition consists of two parts: India will be competing in both categories. Changzhou [China], July 25 (ANI): Young Indian shuttler Unnati Hooda's campaign in the ongoing China Open came to an end with a defeat to world number four and former world champion Akane Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals on Friday, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) Media said in a release. During the final eight clash, Unnati went down to Akane by 16-21, 12-21. Playing in her very first BWF Super 1000 event, the young 17-year-old made headlines with her fearless performances. According to the release, she became only the fourth Indian women's singles shuttler to ever reach the quarterfinals of a BWF Super 1000 event. Unnati delivered a sensational performance to overcome two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and book her place in the women's singles quarterfinals on Thursday. The match was a showcase of India's present and future in badminton, with the rising star Hooda taking on the seasoned champion Sindhu. Hooda started strong, claiming the opening game 21-16, but Sindhu struck back in the second, edging it 21-19 in a tense finish. In the decider, Hooda displayed remarkable play, sealing the contest 21-13 to advance to the quarterfinals. Thai Air Force deploys F-16s to bomb Cambodian targets in three key strategic areas
BANGKOK: The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) deployed F-16 fighter jets to carry out two airstrike waves on Cambodian military positions in the strategic areas surrounding Preah Vihear Temple, Ta Muen Thom, and Phu Makua, in retaliation for Cambodia's use of heavy weaponry against Thai civilian homes and hospitals. All aircraft returned safely. According to reports, shortly after noon on Friday (July 25), the Air Force executed the first wave of its Battlefield Air Interdiction (BAI) operation, dispatching four F-16 jets to strike two Cambodian military targets.
