India's second longest cable-stayed bridge to open in Sagar today

SHIVAMOGGA: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari is scheduled to inaugurate the bridge across Sharavathi backwaters between Ambargodlu and Kalasavalli on National Highway 369E on Monday. The much-anticipated cable-stayed bridge over the Sharavathi backwaters is the longest in the state and second longest in the country, stretching 2.44 km. Built at Rs 472 crore, it will improve connectivity to several villages in Sagar and Hosanagara taluks, as well as to popular temples like Sigandur Chowdeshwari and Kollur Mookambike. The bridge was built to address long-standing connectivity issues since the 1960s when the Sharavathi reservoir submerged large parts of the region. Since then, commuters have depended on a daytime-only barge service to cross backwaters, an arrangement long deemed insufficient to handle traffic on the now-upgraded MDR. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) sanctioned the project in March 2019, and construction began in December the same year. It was executed by Dilip Buildcon Ltd of Madhya Pradesh. The bridge is the eighth extra-dosed cable-stayed cum-balanced cantilever bridge approved by MoRTH in the country. Bridge construction result of local efforts The bridge has a 16-metre-wide deck, which includes an 11-metre carriageway and 1.5-metre-wide footpaths on either side. The approach roads extend 1 km on the Sagar side and 3 km towards Sigandur. The bridge has 604 box girder segments, 164 piles of 1.8-metre diameter, 96 cables on four pylons, and spherical bearings. The new bridge is expected to significantly reduce travel time and boost local tourism and economic activity. MoRTH took up the bridge construction following efforts by local residents, activists, former chief minister BS Yediyurappa, MP BY Raghavendra and former minister Kagodu Thimmappa.

He acknowledged BJP's campaign efforts and former chief minister BS Yediyurappa's contribution, suggesting the installation of the latter's statue on the bridge. The MLA demanded the naming of the bridge after Sigandur Chowdeshwari. District minister Madhu Bangarappa said he wasn't invited and would respond after the event. Jaggery Park in Mudhol non-functional

1 2 Pics: Jaggery Park's main building; The rusting machinery in Mudhol Jaggery Park Bagalkot: Bagalkot, which is known for its sugar production, is also famous for producing jaggery, especially organic jaggery. Jaggery presses were a common sight in the district as farmers used to produce jaggery in their fields. Organic jaggery produced in the district had also created demand in foreign countries and became an importat item of export. Russia was the main buyer. The state govt, in a bid to boost jaggery production, had established a jaggery park in Mudhol of Bagalkot district through University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad in 2013. However the park has become non-functional for the last two years and the machinery there are literally rusting and have reached a point of disrepair. Jaggery Parks were established in Mudhol in Bagalkot district and Sankeshwar in Belagavi district in 2013. Earlier, the then CM BS Yediyurappa had decided to set up a Jaggery Park in Bagalkot district and had offered to provide a grant of Rs 7 crore. However, when the then minister Umesh Katti expressed his desire to set up a park in Sankeshwar, which falls under his constituency, the grant was distributed equally to build the parks in both the districts. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like नोएडा में बिक्री के लिए 3बीएचके फ्लैट की कीमतें आपको आश्चर्यचकित कर सकती हैं! 3BHK Flat For Sale in Noida | search ads Undo The govt wanted advanced technology to be used in the park. However, the sugarcane farmers complained that it was not different from the common Jaggery mills where the production was on traditional lines. A private firm was running the park in Mudhol and once the tender term ended, the production stopped. No company has come forward to continue the production even after fresh tenders were invited. When organic jaggery was exported from Bagalkot to Russia, the world turned its attention to Mudhol. Despite having 14 sugar factories in the district, farmers here have attracted attention by growing sugarcane organically and producing jaggery, which is completely chemical-free. The Mahalingapur market in the district is called the No. 1 market in the state for jaggery. The jaggery produced here is supplied not only to many countries but also to many states including Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and most of the districts of the state. There is a need to promote the production of organic jaggery and chemical-free jaggery. After the widespread talk that white food products including sugar are harmful to health, there has been a huge demand for jaggery. Mudhol Jaggery Park currently has a capacity of 40 tonnes of jaggery production. The farmers urged that the govt needs to make up its mind to give a new touch to the Jaggery Park with latest state-of-the-art machinery. For this, district minister RB Thimmapur, who is also the Mudhol MLA, should work for reviving the Park by adopting cutting-edge technology, said Subhash Shirabur, a farmer leader.

Wait and watch.'' Yediyurappa said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will not allow Patil to speak. He said there has been attempt to file an FIR against former Infosys director TV Mohandas Pai for allegedly speaking against the State government. 'Government is trying to create another Emergency-like situation. The CM is doing it, also the Deputy CM. I am going to travel across the state, try to visit one district every week and tell people about the government's failure,' he said. Meanwhile, Belagavi MP and senior BJP leader Jagadish Shettar claimed that several Congress MLAs, including Kage, are prepared join the BJP. 'Disrupts peace, harmony, and unity': Former Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa slams actor Kamal Haasan over Kannada language remark

NEW DELHI: Former Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Tuesday criticised actor on X over his remark that "Kannada is born from Tamil", and demanded an apology. B.S. Yediyurappa stated (translated), 'Kannada is truth, Kannada is eternal' is not just the rallying cry of Kannadigas, but also the pledge of Kannadigas towards Mother Bhuvaneshwari, the deity of Kannada. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Many senior linguistic experts have demonstrated that Kannada did not originate from any specific language. It is deeply regrettable and condemnable that artist Kamal Haasan, who is neither a historian nor a linguistic expert, has spoken insensitively about the Kannada language. His behavior, which unnecessarily disrupts peace, harmony, and unity, is not right. In the fervor of expressing his opinion, he has hurt the sentiments of crores of Kannadigas, and he must respectfully apologize to Kannada and Kannadigas. Apologizing does not make anyone smaller, nor does arrogance make anyone greater!' The Chennai-based producers of Thug Life, set to release on Thursday, had on Monday filed a petition before the Karnataka High Court challenging the ban imposed by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce. The petitioner sought a restraint order against KFCC and adequate security for the producers, cast, and others. KFCC had announced the ban on May 30 citing Haasan's remark that 'Kannada is born from Tamil'. Raajkamal Films International, the petitioner, argued the KFCC's action was based not on the film's content but on personal remarks by the actor. It also submitted that the film had been certified by the CBFC and the ban infringes upon Article 19(1)(g). KFCC president M Narasimhalu had said the film would not be allowed to screen unless Haasan apologised. He also said distributors were awaiting a conversation with the actor. Reports suggested the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce had reached out to Haasan to resolve the matter. Mandya MLA Ravikumar Ganiga on Monday said Ooty and Hosur, though currently in Tamil Nadu, were historically part of Karnataka and should be merged back. He criticised what he described as a pattern of disregard from Tamil Nadu toward Karnataka's interests.
