Gadkari to inaugurate cable-stayed bridge across Sharavati on Monday
will inaugurate the new cable-stayed bridge spanning the Sharavati River in Kalasavalli village on Monday.
He will fly down from Nagpur to Shivamogga and then travel to Sagar, where Gadkari will announce several highway projects across Karnataka.

National highway authorities have disclosed that projects worth Rs 2,041 crore, comprising nine national highways and bridges in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Dakshina Kannada, and Kodagu, will be announced.
He will also visit Sri Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple, officials said.
Additionally, Rs 41 crore were allocated for permanent works on Shiradi Ghat, and Rs 712 crore for safety improvements on the six-lane Bengaluru-Mysuru section of NH-275 using the hybrid annuity model.
Shivamogga MP BY Raghavendra conducted an inspection of the bridge on Saturday.
While Congress functionaries have expressed concern about not receiving personal invitations to the event, Sagar MLA Gopal Krishna Belur confirmed his attendance alongside public works minister Satish Jarkiholi. He acknowledged BJP's campaign efforts and former chief minister BS Yediyurappa's contribution, suggesting the installation of the latter's statue on the bridge.
The MLA demanded the naming of the bridge after Sigandur Chowdeshwari.
District minister Madhu Bangarappa said he wasn't invited and would respond after the event.
Haranath Rao, a local politician in Sagara taluk, has urged the state govt to name the bridge after BS Yediyurappa, recognising his crucial role in the project.

Andhra Pradesh government restores pensions for 1,575 landless families in Amaravati
Vijayawada: The state government has decided to restore welfare pensions to around 1,575 landless poor families in Amaravati, the capital city area. This decision follows a resolution passed by the CRDA (Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority) governing council, chaired recently by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu . Each family will receive a monthly pension of Rs 2,500 until further notice. "The government has authorised the Commissioner, APCRDA, to extend the benefit of the landless poor pension to 1,575 families as per the original household survey conducted in 2015. These families were initially granted the benefit but were later excluded based on income limits and six-step validation. The government has now decided to restore the pension as a special case, considering the unique circumstances under which these families lost their livelihoods due to the establishment of the Capital City and land acquisition by the APCRDA," said S Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary, municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD). He explained that the CRDA, at its recent meeting, resolved to restore the Amaravati landless poor pension starting January 2025, based on the original 2015 household survey. Following this, the CRDA Commissioner requested that the benefit be extended to the 1,575 families who were previously included in the scheme. In 2015, soon after the announcement of the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS), the state government granted a welfare pension of Rs 2,500 to approximately 23,500 families in the capital city area. The scheme was designed to support landless poor families who lost employment due to the acquisition of agricultural land for capital city development. The Guntur District Collector determined the landless status based on a household survey, white ration card (BPL status), and residential proof in Amaravati. However, during the YSRCP government's tenure, 1,575 families were removed from the pension list following a six-step verification process, which classified them as above the poverty line. Now, the Naidu-led NDA government has decided to continue the pension, regardless of income status. Notably, the original government decision in 2015 stated that both the landless poor pension and the LPS annuity would be provided only for ten years, which would have ended in July 2025. However, due to the delay in completing the capital city construction, the government has opted to extend both schemes. The landless poor pension will cost the government Rs 70–80 crore, while the LPS annuity requires an annual outlay of about Rs 160 crore for around 18,000 farmers in Amaravati.

Stalin urges centre's intervention for release of 7 fishermen held by Sri Lanka
Madurai: Chief minister M K Stalin has urged the Union government to take urgent diplomatic steps to secure the release of seven Rameswaram fishermen apprehended by the Sri Lankan navy in the early hours of Sunday. In a letter to Union external affairs minister S Jaishankar, Stalin expressed concern over the recurring arrests of Tamil Nadu fishermen and called for immediate measures to end the continued harassment of those operating in the Palk Strait. "I urge the Union government to engage all available diplomatic channels to bring an end to these continued apprehensions. I further request that urgent and effective steps be taken to secure the release of all detained fishermen and their boats at the earliest," he said. Stalin also highlighted that 50 fishermen and 232 Tamil Nadu fishing vessels remain in Sri Lankan custody this year, compounding the economic and emotional hardship faced by their families. The latest incident occurred around 2 am on Sunday when a mechanised trawler (IND-TN-10-MM-746), owned by V Isaac Paul of Thangachimadam, was intercepted near Neduntheevu by the Sri Lankan navy.
