Efforts made to conceal truth and scientific thought: Dr Kakkilaya

Mangaluru : In recent years, there have been efforts to spread falsehoods, unscientific beliefs, and superstitions while concealing truth and scientific knowledge, said physician and progressive thinker Dr B Srinivas Kakkilaya . Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Dr Kakkilaya was speaking during the commemoration event of the first general secretary of the CPI, SV Ghate , on Thursday. It was organised by the South Canara and Udupi District Committee of the , held on May 1—International Workers' Day. While speaking, he mentioned that Ghate, a distinguished son of Mangaluru, went to Mumbai not to engage in trade like others, but to observe the conditions of the workers there and work towards their liberation from servitude. He deeply studied Marxist and Leninist communist ideologies, recognising them as the sole path to human emancipation. He brought together communist thinkers to form the CPI in 1925 and became its first general secretary. Actively participating in the freedom struggle and the fights of workers and the poor, he was imprisoned multiple times. His efforts led to the spread of the labour and communist movements across the country, making the CPI a major opposition party in the years following Independence. To counter the current right-wing dominance in the country, we must strengthen the CPI party with more effort than ever before. Later, Ghate's relative, Sumana Ghate, said, "Grandfather Ghate was very affectionate with the family. Everyone had love and trust for him. We are proud to say that he is part of our family." Another guest, retired principal and public thinker Dr Vasanth Kumar, said that the youth are the future of the country, but they are being led astray in the name of religion, caste, and nationalism. "If we succeed in guiding them back on track, the country's future will be bright. Otherwise, disaster is certain. We must act in this direction," he added.
