Revanth Reddy bats for Bandaru Dattatreya, a Telugu OBC, for vice president post

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday demanded former Union Minister and ex-Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, an OBC leader from Telangana, be made the Vice President of India. Reddy said the post should be given to Telangana as Telugu was the second-most spoken language in the country.(PTI) He said the post should be given to Telangana as Telugu was the second-most spoken language in the country, and justice to the native speakers must be done. Meanwhile, he termed as "unfortunate" the resignation of former vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar. "The next Vice President should be from Telangana. Telangana deserves its due. You cannot do so much injustice to the people of Telangana. Telugu is the second most spoken language in India after Hindi, and then comes Bengali. Injustice has been done to our people. "I have demanded that the NDA government appoint Bandaru Dattatreya as the next Vice President of India. If Dattatreya is made the vice president, then some of your sins will be forgiven," the Congress leader told reporters here. Dattatreya was the Haryana governor during 2019-2021. He was made the governor of Himachal Pradesh in July 2021 and vacated that post on July 21 this year. Reddy said he proposed Dattatreya's name because there is so much talk about OBCs these days, and Dattatreya, an OBC, was removed from the post of governor. He said Bandi Sanjay was also axed as the BJP president of Telangana, as he termed both these leaders the main face of Telugu OBCs. "They sent a person of Telugu-speaking person back home from Delhi (referring to former VP M Venkaiah Naidu). Then they removed Bandaru Dattatreya as governor and then removed Bandi Sanjay as Telangana BJP president," said Reddy, attacking the BJP-led Centre. Asked if the Congress would support Dattatreya's candidature, he said, "I will try and help Bandaru Dattatreya and I will also request my leadership to support him too, but the Congress leadership will take a call on it." Reddy also alleged that the country is in danger till the NDA government is in power, and it has to be removed.

'100 khoon maaf karne ke liye': CM Revanth Reddy bats for Vice-President from Telangana; cites OBC neglect by NDA

Telangana CM Revanth Reddy (File photo) NEW DELHI: Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy on Wednesday called for a leader from Telangana to be appointed as the next Vice President of India, following Jagdeep Dhankhar's sudden resignation. He also strongly pitched for Bandaru Dattatreya , citing his OBC background and past political sidelining by the NDA. Speaking to ANI, Revanth said he was unaware of the reasons behind Dhankhar's resignation, but termed it "unfortunate". "The Vice President should now be from Telangana. Last time, there were discussions about making Venkaiah Naidu the President, but he was sent back. A Telugu-speaking leader was denied that position and later made to return home. As a correction, Bandaru Dattatreya was given the Governor post in Haryana," he said. Revanth further pointed out that when Dattatreya was Union minister, his position was handed over to G Kishan Reddy. Similarly, he claimed the BJP replaced OBC leader Bandi Sanjay as Telangana party president with Brahmin leader Ramchander Rao. "The NDA has consistently downgraded OBC leaders in South India, especially in Telangana. To make up for that injustice — '100 khoon maaf karne ke liye' (to pardon those 100 wrongs) -- it would be appropriate to appoint Bandaru Dattatreya as the next Vice President," Telangana CM said.

Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattareya urges BCs to unite and work towards achieving political power

Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya on Monday stressed the urgent need to address social inequalities, calling them more dangerous than economic ones. Speaking at the launch of Bahujanaganamana, a long poem by renowned Telugu poet and former Telangana Sahitya Akademi chairman Juluru Gowri Shankar, he urged Backward Classes (BCs) to unite and work towards achieving political power. The event was held at the Hyderabad Press Club. Dattatreya also noted that the Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has decided to conduct a nationwide caste census along with the next population census — a long-standing demand of BC communities. 'This will pave the way for their political empowerment,' he said. He urged for BC ideology to be widely disseminated and said Bahujanaganamana should reach every village to help the younger generation understand its significance. Speakers praised the poem for blending philosophical depth with verse, addressing key issues like the caste census, BCs' socio-economic status and legal rights. They described it as a powerful ideological text and a 'new epic' for India, serving as a tool for empowerment and social justice. The event was presided over by former Media Academy chairman Allam Narayana. Other speakers included former High Court judge Chandrakumar, retired IAS officer Chiranjeevulu, BC Welfare Association national president Jajula Srinivas Goud, writer Jwalitha, former professor Tirumali, literary critic Sangisetty Srinivas and Hyderabad Press Club general secretary R. Ravikanth Reddy.
