Johnny Ward shares message Barry Keoghan sent before DWTS final

Actor Johnny Ward has revealed Barry Keoghan sent him a video message the night before the Dancing With The Stars final. The pair worked together on Love/Hate, which saw Keoghan launch into international stardom. But Johnny said the pair occasionally keep in touch, with the Dubliner revealing the sweet message the Banshees of Inisherin star sent him before the final of Dancing With The Stars in 2019. He said: 'I thought that was so lovely. He hasn't forgotten who he is and his background." They co-starred in the 2016 film Mammal, directed by Rebecca Daly. Ward remembers filming with Keghan in Luxembourg for the 2016 movie Mammal and being keenly aware of the Dubliner's star potential. "I remember looking at him and going, 'This guy' - it's like a disease, but in the best way possible, because there's no way someone can be, without any effort, just so talented. I was sitting going over lines, wondering, 'What emotion can I do here?' whereas he would just do it - he's absolutely phenomenal,' he told Sunday Independent's Life magazine. The Dubliner also opens up dealing with grief since the death of his father John, who passed away from cancer in 2019. After Ward completed RTÉ's Ultimate Hell Week in 2022, the first person he called was his dad, getting through to the answer phone before the realisation hit him. Recently, he was in a shopping centre and Coldplay's Viva la Vida came on. "I hear that and the music will give me shivers because, oh God, we were doing a routine, and I'll just think of my dad and what stage of death he was at. "You get those little things, and it's normal," he added. "But I know that if my dad was alive, he'd be saying, 'Look after your mother, and that's what I'm doing." Ward splits his time between living and caring for his mum in Walkinstown, Dublin, and his home with his wife, Brenda, in Kilcullen, Co Kildare. "It's kind of half and half, and then at the weekends we'll all come together," he said, adding that he sees it as a chance to try and repay all the support his mum gave him growing up. "She's the reason I'm sitting here," he says emphatically. "Without her, I definitely would have given up acting a long time ago. I wouldn't have stuck to it." The Surprising Story Behind Kerry Condon's 'F1' Role

Damson Idris and Brad Pitt may be getting all the love for their new summer blockbuster F1, but the real MVP is Kerry Condon. The Banshees of Inisherin star plays Kate McKenna, a technical director for the fictional Formula 1 team in the film, APXGP. Though Condon's role was not based on a real-life person, she was inspired by a few other trailblazers in the sport. The first was Bernie Collins, an F1 analyst for Sky Sports and the former Head of Race Strategy for the Aston Martin F1 team. 'I learned a lot from Bernie because of her Irish background,' Condon told F1 Nation. 'I thought that was going to be perfect. I thought, 'Yes, bingo, I'm going to base it kind of on Bernie's backstory.'' Collins was born in Ireland, just like Condon, and her love for Formula 1 began in school. While enrolled at Queen's University Belfast, she studied mechanical engineering and joined the Formula Student program, an international engineering design competition where students design and build racing cars. Throughout her career, Collins has held various strategy and performance engineering roles at McLaren, United Autosports, Force India, and Aston Martin. 'Bernie had a similar education to me,' Condon told TODAY. 'She went to an all-girls school and stuff, so I kind of brought in a lot of my own background and made it my own.' While on set, Condon also asked Collins for advice on certain scenes. 'And then little things like the notepad that I have when I walk to the pit wall, I asked Bernie what she would have written on the front page of her notepad,' she told F1 Nation. 'Just in case the camera caught a glimpse of my notepad or something.' Condon also took cues from Ruth Buscombe, a British motorsport engineer and F1 TV presenter. '[She] was very helpful,' she said. 'I just kind of found out a little bit about where they went to college and what they studied and the route that they took to get there.' Buscombe also became interested in F1 at an early age. She attended the University of Cambridge Department of Engineering and studied aerospace and aerothermal engineering. After graduating, she joined the Ferrari team as a development engineer and then later became their race strategist. She's also held engineering and strategy positions at Haas and Sauber.

Kerry Condon: 'Champagne was all I knew about F1'

Banshees of Inisherin star Kerry Condon admits she knew little to nothing about Formula One before her lead role in the Brad Pitt F1 film. Condon stars alongside Pitt in the new blockbuster F1, opening in Irish cinemas this week. The 42-year-old received an Oscar nomination for her role as Siobhán, the long-suffering sister of Colm Farrell's character, in The Banshees of Inisherin. She is also known for playing Octavia in the hit HBO series Rome (2005-2007); Stacey Ehrmantraut in Better Call Saul (2015-2022); and as the voice of the AI entity F.R.I.D.A.Y. in various films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kerry Condon in F1 Pic: Warner Bros/Apple But she says the learning curve for her latest role was so steep, she thought she would have to go and get a degree in aerodynamics. 'I didn't know anything about Formula One, not a thing at all. I only knew about the podium and the champagne celebrations. That was the height of my knowledge. 'I had to learn a lot. about the engineering side of making the car and the physics of it. I got to a certain point where I said, 'I have to go to college to learn this properly!'' But instead, Condon wisely focused on 'the particular scenes that I was in' and explained to the audience what was going on, so if you are not a Formula One fan, you'll understand what is happening in the movie. Kerry has been nominated for an Oscar for her previous work. Pic: Rob Latour/Shutterstock 'So trying to walk that fine line between being very normal with a lot of the terminology, but yet in a way that people will understand.' Over the past 20 years, Condon has established herself as one of the most sought-after character actors in Hollywood, but the Tipperary star said she only now feels comfortable in her new role as a 'leading lady? acting opposite Brad Pitt' no less. Speaking this week ahead of the release of F1, Condon said she felt confident taking on the leading lady role in what is set to be this year's big summer blockbuster. Brad Pitt and Damson Idris in F1 Pic: Warner Bros/Apple 'I can be a character actress, but I can also be a leading lady? It wasn't a fluke, I got an Oscar nomination [for Banshees], and I felt I was up for acting opposite Brad Pitt. I think I've enough experience. I think I know what I'm doing,' she said during an interview with the US showbiz platform Entertainment Tonight. In F1, Condon plays Kate McKenna, race director of the fictional APX GP team and the first female technical director in Formula One. Her character is influenced by Northern Ireland's Bernie Collins, a former Formula One strategy engineer. Condon has also revealed she and Hollywood A-lister Pitt share 'a bit of romance' in the movie. Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week, she shot the host a suggestive look when he asked if depicting a romance with Pitt's character was 'part of the draw' for her to take part in the new movie. 'They scheduled it for half eight on a Thursday morning,' she said of her call time for those scenes with Pitt. 'I was like, 'Ah, come on.' So I had a vodka orange juice for my breakfast that morning. 'We were supposed to be in Vegas on a night out or whatever,' she added, before telling Colbert: 'You're giving it all away!'' And at a red-carpet event this week, the down-to-earth Thurles-born star gave a rather Irish answer when asked to reveal her most memorable moment during the high-profile, global blockbuster shoot. Instead of nights out or parties with fellow cast members, which also include Javier Bardem and Damson Idris, Condon recalled walking around casinos in Las Vegas at 5 am when filming had finished, 'drinking tea' that cost $15 (€13). She also rubbished reports circulating online that she is about to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a real-life reprise of her F.R.I.D.A.Y. character in the upcoming Disney series, Vision Quest. 'It's not true!' Condon said emphatically. 'I saw [the reports], and I was like, 'Who's saying this?!' It's not true, no, no, no? 'I wouldn't say absolutely 'no chance', but at the moment it's not in the cards for me.'
