Hinjewadi part of her constituency, her ‘suggestion' accepted, but MP Sule not invited for the crucial meeting
THOUGH HINJEWADI is part of her Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, MP and NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule was not invited for the crucial meeting convened by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss problem besetting the IT hub in Mumbai on Thursday. Her associates, however, said the government has accepted Sule's suggestion to appoint a single nodal officer to coordinate the functioning of various civic, traffic and district authorities. Hinjewadi, which falls in Sule's constituency, also saw a massive power outage that affected thousands of residents on Sunday. 'I have not been invited for the meeting nor was I informed about it,' Sule told The Indian Express on Thursday, adding, 'I will speak about this later in detail.' Fadnavis had called the meeting of Pune officials and stakeholders at 2 pm in Vidhan Bhavan following public uproar. Residents of Hinjewadi have also started an online campaign seeking merger of the IT hub with PCMC. Sule's associates, however, said the idea mooted by the MP to appoint a nodal officer has been accepted the government. Following the mega power outage, Sule had on Monday in a letter urged Fadnavis to appoint a nodal officer to resolve civic issues until an independent authority is appointed for the area. Sule had suggested either formation of a Special City Development Authority or an Industrial Urban Administrative Authority. The CM on Thursday announced the setting up of a Single Point Authority headed by Pune divisional commissioner. 'Despite the fact that Hinjewadi was part of the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, the government does not have the courtesy to invite the local MP to discuss the issues affecting the IT hub. It was Supriya Sule who had written a letter to the CM and had tweeted urging him to hold an urgent meeting to discuss Hinjewadi's problems,' her associates said. Mahesh Tapase, spokesperson of the Nationalist Congress Party (SP), said the current government has often insulted MPs and MLAs of Opposition parties. 'When issues of public interest come and especially when the issues related to a constituency are represented by an MLA or MP, it is the duty of the government to invite them for any such meeting,' he said. 'The government cannot take unilateral decisions without consulting local representatives. This is against the principles of our Constitution. But this government has the habit of bypassing the Constitution. We strongly condemn the government attitude,' Tapase added. BJP MLA Shankar Jagtap, who was present at the meeting, said, 'No MP was invited for the meeting…Only three MLAs were present. Even Pune MP was not invited.' Heavy rain in recent days led to waterlogging in several key roads across the Hinjewadi area, resulting in huge traffic snarls. This irked IT professionals and residents who have launched a campaign to get their problems redressed by the state government. Hinjewadi is just outside the jurisdiction of the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporations. The Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjewadi is under the control of the MIDC, while the residential area is governed by the PMRDA. This means that residents are often compelled to follow up on grievances with multiple agencies, resulting in considerable loss of time and mental distress, Sule had told Fadnavis in the letter.

Supriya Sule to take up labour work to repair road to Baneshwar Temple
Nearly a month after observing hunger strike to protest against the failure of the administration to repair the road to Baneshwar Temple in her Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, NCP(SP) leader and MP Supriya Sule will Monday participate in a shram daan with residents to repair the road on May 23 if it is not done before that. Sule and residents of the area held meetings with officials of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to discuss various issues, including the road to the Baneshwar Temple. 'PMRDA assured of doing the repair work immediately, but has not done so. It has sought extension till May 20. If there is no action from PMRDA, then I, along with locals, will take up the necessary tools in hand, and carry out repair work on our own on the grounds of the Employment Guarantee scheme, but without taking any money,' said Sule. Residents say the 1.5 km road from Narayanpur to Baneshwar Temple has been damaged and needs repair. There has been a demand for its repair, but nothing has been done so far, they added. Yogesh Mhase, Commissioner, PMRDA, said, 'The tender process for the road repair work of Baneshwar has been undertaken and work will be completed by May 20.' Sule was scheduled to hold a hunger strike on March 4, but PMRDA assured her that the road repair work would be taken up in a week, but it failed to do so. Thus, she and other residents launched a hunger strike on April 9 in front of the collector's office. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Pune Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar directed the administration to take up the work immediately, but initially downplayed the protest of Sule, his cousin. 'It was small work and did not need much funding. It could have been done through the local area development fund of MP,' he had said earlier.
