Bristol City confirm Napier departure
Bristol City have announced the news that full-back Jamie-Lee Napier has left the club. The Robins revealed the news via a post on their official club website this morning. The 25-year-old Scotland international was out of contract at Ashton Gate this summer and an extension to her deal was not agreed. Napier joined Bristol City in summer 2023 ahead of the club's Barclays Women's Super League return. She featured heavily for The Robins in the top flight but could not help the club to avoid an immediate return to Barclays WSL2. Napier continued to be a regular starter for Bristol City last term. She was handed the captain's armband in her second season at Ashton Gate. Commenting on her departure, Napier said 'Firstly, I would like to thank everyone at the club for the last few years and for making me feel so welcome from day one. 'To my teammates and staff, thank you for some of the most amazing times and for all the support you have given me during my time here. I leave with friendships and memories for life and for that I'm very grateful. 'One of my proudest moments in a City shirt was leading this team out at Ashton Gate in-front of this amazing city and you incredible fans. 'It wouldn't have been the same without you Robins fans, you made playing for this club extra special, so thank you from the bottom of my heart. 'I wish this club all the best moving forward.' Napier is the sixth player to have left Bristol City since the end of last season. Jesse Woolley, Jasmine Bull, Amalie Thestrup, Ffion Morgan and Amy Rodgers have also moved on this summer.

Former Chelsea keeper Mušović joins Malmö FF
Former Chelsea goalkeeper Zećira Mušović has joined Swedish OBOS Damallsvenskan club Malmö FF on a free transfer. The Blue Ones announced news of the deal via a post on their official club website this morning. Advertisement The Swedish international left former club Chelsea earlier this summer with the player keen to take her young family closer to home. She has now signed a long-term deal with Malmö FF which will run until summer 2028. In her four-and-a-half-year spell as a Chelsea player, Mušović made 52 appearances in all competitions while she kept 27 clean sheets. The keeper won five Barclays Women's Super League titles with The Blues along with three Adobe Women's FA Cups and two Subway Women's League Cups. Mušović was also a UEFA Women's Champions League runner-up with the South West Londoners. After securing Mušović's services, Malmö FF's assistant sporting director, Maxim Kahlil said 'We're incredibly pleased to bring in a player of Zećira's quality and experience at the absolute top level. Her achievements at both club and international level speak for themselves. She's also a strong leader on and off the pitch who will have a big impact in our dressing room. 'On the pitch, she's a fantastic goalkeeper who dominates her area, has great reach and from her position, she commands the back-line and the entire team. Bringing in one of Sweden's top goalkeepers in her prime sends a strong signal and aligns perfectly with our long-term vision.' Mušović joins a Malmö FF side that are currently in third position in the OBOS Damallsvenskan table.

Spurs defender Bartrip signs new long-term deal
Tottenham Hotspur defender Molly Bartrip has signed a new long-term contract with the club until summer 2028. WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Lilywhites this morning. Advertisement The 29-year-old centre-back spent some of her youth with Spurs before turning out for their London rivals Charlton Athletic and Arsenal. Bartrip started her senior playing career with former top tier side Reading in 2014 and she spent seven successful years with The Royals. In summer 2021, Bartrip returned home to Spurs and she has been a regular in the side during her time back in North London. The defender was an ever-present for The Lilywhites in the Barclays Women's Super League this season. In 2023/2024, Bartrip picked up an Adobe Women's FA Cup final runners-up medal with Spurs contesting the showpiece for the very first time in their history. It was the first time that the player collected a medal since winning the old FAWSL2 with Reading in 2015. Bartrip is a hugely important player for Spurs and the club have therefore opted to retain her services for three more years. She will be hoping to help the club climb the Barclays Women's Super League table under new management next season.

Former England striker Toni Duggan welcomes WSL expansion to 14 teams from 2026
A proposal put forward by Nikki Doucet, chief executive of Women's Professional Leagues Limited, was voted through at Monday's WSL Football shareholders meeting. It still requires the approval of the Football Association board but, if it gets the green light, 14 teams will compete in the women's top flight from next year and the 2025-26 WSL campaign will conclude with a relegation/promotion play-off. An update on the structure of #BarclaysWSL and #BarclaysWSL2 for the 2025-26 season 🏆 — Barclays Women's Super League (@BarclaysWSL) June 16, 2025 Duggan told talkSPORT: 'I just love what women's football has done. I was part of it when they scraped it back to eight teams. 'Don't get me wrong, it was difficult to take because a league of eight teams, you were only playing a few games a season. 'We've had to gradually build to get to this stage and I think this is the right time for it, really. 'Over in Spain, if I'm comparing the two, I think Spanish football can learn from the WSL because if I'm being honest, there's too many teams over in Spain and they need to condense it to bring the talent together.' Duggan, who played for Everton, Manchester City – with whom she won the WSL title – Barcelona and Atletico Madrid during a glittering career which also brought 79 senior international caps, announced her retirement at the age of 33 in September last year. However, she admitted her excitement at a development she believes is significant for the women's game in this country. She said: 'Obviously clubs now have to adhere to certain things. They have to have a stadium big enough, they have to be able to have television companies there, they have to have good facilities. Former England striker Toni Duggan announced her retirement last September (Martin Rickett/PA) 'I just think that's important for women's football. It's a given for the men's teams, so that's the direction the women's game has gone in and now we're in a position where we're ready to make it a 14-team league, and I think it's exciting.' If the expansion from a 12-team WSL to 14 gets FA approval, it offers three Women's Championship clubs the chance to gain promotion during the 2025-26 campaign. The top two in the Championship – which will be rebranded as Women's Super League 2 from next season – will go up automatically and the third-placed side will take on the team which finished bottom of the WSL in a play-off.
