Turkish club looking to 'part ways' with ex-Rangers pair

According to Karadenizgazete, Trabzonspor want to move them on before the new season. Barisic, who joined the club two years ago, spent the latter part of last season on loan at Spanish side Leganes. Read more: Lundstram, who signed a year after Barisic, has made 44 appearances for the Turkish side. The report suggests Trabzonspor could pay Barisic €1.8 million to terminate his contract, which has one year remaining. Lundstram, however, has two years left on his deal and would need to be sold. The report claims he has received multiple offers from Arab clubs. The midfielder, known for his goal that took Rangers to the 2022 Europa League final, might be heading for a new challenge. Last season, Trabzonspor finished seventh in Turkey's top league and missed out on European football after a defeat to St Gallen in the UEFA Conference League play-offs. They also lost the Turkish Cup final 3-0 to Galatasaray, concluding a disappointing season. The ex-Rangers pair now face an uncertain future at the club.

Club try to 'part ways' with ex-Rangers duo after nightmare season

Barisic joined the Turkish outfit two years ago, but spent the second half of last season on loan at Leganes in Spain. Lundstram moved to Trabzonspor a year after the left-back. Now, according to Karadenizgazete, Trabzonspor are looking to get rid of the pair ahead of the new season. It is said that they could pay off Barisic for the last year of his contract, which would cost them €1.8 million. Read more: Lundstram, on the other hand, would have to be sold, as he has two years left on his deal. Karadenizgazete says he has received several offers from Arab clubs. The midfielder, whose goal against RB Leipzig sent Rangers to the 2022 Europa League final, has made 44 Trabzonspor appearances since his move. They finished seventh in the Turkish top flight last term, though, and were denied European football after losing in the UEFA Conference League play-offs to Swiss outfit St. Gallen. Trabzonspor also lost the final of the Turkish Cup 3-0 to Galatasaray, marking a nightmarish season. Now, ex-Rangers pair Lundstram and Barisic could be set to flee the scene.

Rangers transfer news as £4million 'target' holds exit talks while Barisic and Lundstram 'unwanted' in Turkey

The Colo Colo star has already won seven caps for Chile at senior level Reported Rangers transfer target Vicente Pizarro is reportedly holding crunch talks over his future. Sources in South America had linked Gers with the Chilean midfielder - who plays for league champions Colo Colo - last month, with Serie A side Udinese also said to be keen admirers. ‌ The 22-year-old has already racked up over 100 appearances for his boyhood club and has also won seven caps for Chile at senior level. ‌ Prior to his exit as part of the 49ers Enterprises ownership shake-up, former Ibrox sporting directo r Nils Koppen jetted out to South America at the end of May for a transfer summit, where chiefs from clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen gathered to share information on potential targets. And while Pizarro wasn't thought to be on Rangers' radar at the time, a fresh report claims that the player - who is the son of Chile's minister for sport Jaime Pizarro - could be on the move this summer. Chilean outlet Trifuno claim that Pizarro's representatives have held discussions with club president Anibal Mosa about ramping up interest in the 5ft 8" midfielder. Pizzarro is under contract at Colo Colo until December 2027 and reports last month claimed that the Chilean side have placed a $5.5million (£4million) price tag on his head. Boss Russell Martin has seen his midfield ranks bolstered with the arrival of Dundee star Lyall Cameron and the ex Scotland international is poised to be reunited with Bournemouth's Joe Rothwell - who is closing in on a move to Ibrox after previously playing under Martin at Southampton. ‌ Meanwhile, former Rangers duo Borna Barisic and John Lundstram are both expected to leave Trabzonspor this summer - with the former reportedly attracting interest from the Middle East. Both players arrived in Turkey 12 months ago following their departures from Ibrox under freedom of contract. However, it proved to be a disappointing campaign for both, with midfielder Lundstram facing calls to have his contract TERMINATED from sections of the club's fanbase just weeks after his arrival following Trabzonspor's Conference League exit to Swiss side St Gallen on penalties. ‌ Croatia international Barisic endured a torrid year with injury and made just 15 appearances in total before being shipped out on loan to La Liga outfit Leganes, where he suffered a serious cruciate ligament tear that ended his participation in the remainder of the season just 10 minutes into his debut against Valencia. The full back is still yet to fully recover from that injury and neither he or Barisic have been snapped with the rest of their teammates following Trabzonspor's return for pre-season training. Turkish outlet Karadeniz claim that Barisic could leave the club on a free transfer if a mutual agreement can be struck. The defender has a year remaining on his deal and will reportedly require Trabzonspor to pay him €1.8million upfront to release him from his duties. Lundstram is under contract until 2027 and the report adds that while no offers have been submitted, clubs in the Middle East are keeping tabs.

Rangers duo Philippe Clement blamed for title collapse put 'up for sale' just 12 months after Ibrox exits

Two former Light Blues stars recently came under fire from their old boss for their displays in the second half of the 2023/24 season Ex Rangers pair John Lundstram and Borna Barisic have reportedly been told they are free to leave Trabzonspor just 12 months after their arrival in Turkey. The duo swapped Ibrox for Trabzon last summer on free transfers after letting their contracts run down. However, the switch has proved out to be tumultuous for both players. ‌ Lundstram scored four times in 44 appearances in all competitions but faced calls to have his contract TERMINATED from sections of the club's fanbase just weeks after his arrival following Trabzonspor's Conference League exit to Swiss side St Gallen on penalties. The former Rangers pair are due to return to Trabzon for pre-season this month but Turkish outlet gunebakis report that both players are not a part of head coach Fatih Tekke's plans for the new campaign. Lundstram still has two years remaining on his contract with the Super Lig side while Barisic is into the final 12 months of his deal. It comes just weeks after the duo were indirectly blamed by their old Ibrox boss Philippe Clement for being the main culprits in the Light Blues' title challenge collapsing towards the end of the 2023/24 season. Gers had put together a nine game unbeaten streak between January and March but defeats to Motherwell and Ross County and a goalless draw with Dundee saw them ending up finishing eight points behind champions Celtic. And while he didn't name them, Clement claimed that that two players who were out of contract at the end of the season had their minds focused elsewhere instead of on matters on the pitch. ‌ Speaking to BBC Scotland earlier this month, he said: 'There are some stories if you look back. Indeed, in the first season nobody in Scotland expected Rangers to come back in be in a title race when we arrived in October. 'The players did it but in the end we lost the game at Ross County and three days later dropped points at Dundee. If I look back, two players who were not good in those two games they left at the end of the season on a free transfer. ‌ 'They were at that moment busy also talking with other teams with their agents, about their future and all those things. Probably, and maybe, it had an affect on them. 'Did they not want to become Rangers? For sure not. They wanted to become champions and give everything. 'But the situation to be at the end of the contract at that moment of the season was also not a good one. You need to see as a club that it's about stability and consistency that you don't come in these situations too much in the important moments of the season. 'You want everything to be clear so players can focus solely on football and I think it played a part in that end of the season in those two games where the shift was made in the championship.'

John Lundstram and Borna Barisic facing Trabzonspor axe

The former Rangers pair joined the Turkish side on free transfers last summer but are now facing uncertain futures. Left-back Barisic has hardly featured, while midfielder Lundstram has been criticised for his performances. Reports in Turkey suggest Barisic's contract may even be terminated. Trabzonspor manager Fatih Tekke needs to cut seven players from his squad this summer due to a quota of 12 foreign players, with 14 currently in the squad and more returning from loans. The club are also planning to sign another five players in the transfer market. Read more: Russell Martin reveals he 'turned down a few jobs' before agreeing Rangers deal Rangers poised to announce Russell Martin as their new manager Barisic and the club are reportedly in discussions over cancelling his contract, while Lundstram, 31, is at risk of being moved on due to his age. Both players signed three-year deals with Trabzonspor last year, so their departures may not be straightforward. The team's disappointing European campaign, which saw them crash out of both the Europa and Conference Leagues, and a poor start to the league season have contributed to the need for a squad overhaul. However, they did manage to recover somewhat, finishing seventh in the league and reaching the final of the Turkish Cup. The team went through three permanent managers over the course of the season, with Tekke only appointed in March. Barisic's season was further disrupted by a loan move to Leganes in Spain in January, which was cut short by a serious injury in his first game. Ex-Man City star Stefan Savic, Edin Visca, and Anthony Nwakaeme are also said to be likely candidates for summer sales.
