Rajasthan energy minister Heeralal Nagar's Rs 2 lakh electricity bill unpaid: Hanuman Beniwal alleges VIP bias; flags fund misuse
Hanuman Beniwal, Heeralal Nagar NEW DELHI: Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal has alleged that Rajasthan energy minister Heeralal Nagar has unpaid electricity bills worth over Rs 2 lakh, even as the power supply to Beniwal's official residence and MP office in Nagaur was recently cut over non-payment of dues. Beniwal claimed to have shared documents showing pending dues of Rs 2.17 lakh for Nagar's government bungalow on Hospital Road. He questioned whether the minister's connection would also be disconnected, as his had been. According to Beniwal, bills for Nagar's Jyoti Nagar flats were cleared from government funds. However, when officials tried to settle the Hospital Road bill the same way, the treasury reportedly refused, stating that only one bill per minister can be paid from public money. The minister denied having any pending dues and clarified that the bill in question is still within its due date. Beniwal further alleged corruption in the installation of smart meters, claiming that the process involved kickbacks reaching up to senior officials, including the minister. Days after the electricity connection of his Nagaur residence was disconnected over unpaid bills, Lok Sabha MP Hanuman Beniwal has claimed that Rajasthan's Energy Minister Heeralal Nagar himself owes over Rs 2 lakh in unpaid electricity bills for one of his residences. Showing a purported online copy of the bill, the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) supremo said that Nagar owes as much as Rs 2.17 lakh to Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited for his residence on Jaipur's Hospital Road. 'Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones at others,' Beniwal said. Earlier this month, electricity department officials in Nagaur had disconnected the connection at Beniwal's Nagaur residence, registered in the name of his brother Premsukh Beniwal, which also doubles as the party's office. Ashok Chaudhary, Superintending Engineer, Ajmer Discom, had said that as many as six notices were given to the residence, but the money was bill was still not cleared. Subsequently, Energy Minister Nagar had said, 'It is not a question of whose electricity connection has been disconnected. It is a normal process when the bill is unpaid. It is not possible that if someone is a VIP, MP or MLA, their electricity won't be disconnected if the bills are due. Everyone is equal. It is our responsibility to pay the electricity bills on time.' He had said that more than the common man, public representatives have a bigger responsibility, 'because they are elected and people follow what they do. So, they should behave in such a manner that the people follow their good actions.' Beniwal said on Monday, 'He (Nagar) is talking loudly about disconnecting Hanuman's connection. I had submitted Rs 2 lakh as settlement money on March 27; settlement is every consumer's right, and it happens when there is a high electricity bill. But they took Rs 2 lakh and disconnected the electricity bill too.' 'I want to ask Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, are you now going to disconnect the Energy Minister's connection too?' Beniwal said. Nagar could not be reached for a comment.

How Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma is shedding the lightweight tag
Rajasthan chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma is surprising both critics and allies with his firm stand on contentious issues where many would have expected him to back down. The most recent instance is his decision not to cancel the 2021 sub-inspector (SI) recruitment examination that was rocked by paper leak and other Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) had selected 857 candidates through the exam. But after the Sharma-led BJP government came to power in 2023, investigations revealed major lapses: dummy candidates had allegedly appeared for some aspirants, the question paper was leaked, and even some RPSC members were allegedly involved in the malpractice. So far, around 50 SI trainees have been arrested, including a serving RPSC member and a former member, in the leaders, such as Hanuman Beniwal of the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party, and even the BJP's Kirodi Lal Meena, who is the agriculture minister, have demanded that the exam be cancelled altogether. A petition seeking cancellation is also pending in the Rajasthan High the Sharma government, following a sub-committee review, has decided to uphold the exam results. Officials argue that only those who failed the exam are demanding its cancellation while the government is proactively identifying and removing SI trainees who got selected through unfair means. Sharma, in a conversation with INDIA TODAY, defended his decision. 'Many selected candidates left other government jobs to join as SI. Those who couldn't clear the exam may try again. But we need to fill SI vacancies on time. Cancelling the exam only helps a handful,' he logic has resonated with many. In Rajasthan, exam cancellations and delays have become rampant. Critics blame this on coaching centres that apparently benefit from prolonged uncertainties. Some aspirants had sought postponement, citing Operation Sindoor, but the chief minister turned down the idea. 'How can someone preparing to become an RAS officer have time to sit in protest rather than study?' he asked. 'Meritorious students always want exams to be held on time.'The menace of unfair means being used to secure government jobs has plagued Rajasthan for over a decade. The state has a long history of paper leak controversies. In Sharma's tenure, a special task force has been created for both investigation and assertiveness on the SI exam issue has particularly stood against Beniwal's threat to lead a march to New Delhi. The administration, in what is being read as a pushback, has snapped an electricity connection in Nagaur that had pending dues of Rs 11 lakh. The connection is allegedly in the name of Beniwal's brother. Notice issuedto Beniwal to vacate quarters
Jaipur: The city district collectorate issued a notice to Nagaur MP and RLP chief Hanuman Beniwal, asking him to vacate his govt house Thursday. The notice was issued by the estate officer and additional district magistrate. Officials said the notice was issued following a recent complaint filed by the Public Works Department (PWD). His brother, Narayan Beniwal, and former MLA Pukhraj Garg also received similar eviction notices. "All three have been told to vacate their govt residences by July 11 as they are no longer MLAs. Still, they are occupying flats at the Jyoti Nagar MLA Complex," an official stated. Although Beniwal won from the Khinvsar assembly constituency in the 2023 polls, he had to resign as MLA after becoming the Nagaur MP following the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Beniwal's wife contested from Khinvsar in the bypoll but lost. Earlier, on Thursday, electricity connection was disconnected from Beniwal's residence in Nagaur after the discom alleged unpaid dues of over Rs 11 lakh. Beniwal's brother, Premsukh Beniwal, is the owner of the house. RLP too operates from the house.

Jat bodies seek OBC quota for community in 3 dists
1 2 Jaipur: Jat organisations held a rally in Nadbai (Bharatpur) Sunday, demanding the inclusion of Jats from Bharatpur, Dholpur and Deeg in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category for reservation in central govt jobs. The leaders issued a one-month ultimatum to the Union govt to act on the long-pending demand, warning of an intensified agitation that could include highway and railway blockades. The central govt provides 27% reservation for OBC. The rally was attended by top community leaders, including representatives of the Rajasthan Jat Mahasabha, Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal, and newly elected Bharatpur MP Sanjna Jatav. "If this 25-year-old demand is not met by the double-engine govt—Bhajan Lal Sharma in Rajasthan and Narendra Modi at the Centre—it would mean they are deliberately ignoring the Jat community," said Beniwal. He added that the govt only remembered the Jat community during elections or symbolic appointments. "They made Jats vice-president or governors only after the community showed its political and social strength," he said. Beniwal criticised Jat leaders in the BJP at both state and national levels for their silence on the issue. "There's no justifiable reason to deny reservation to Jats in Bharatpur, Dholpur, and Deeg when their socio-economic condition is no different from Jats in other parts of the country," she said. "Even my own community (Scheduled Castes) supports this demand," she added. Jat leaders reiterated that the community is united on the issue and prepared to take their movement forward if no concrete steps are taken by the govt within the given timeframe. In Rajasthan, Jats are included under the 21% reservation for OBC. However, those domiciled in Bharatpur, Dholpur, and Deeg districts are excluded from the central OBC reservation scheme.
