NEW DELHI: Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal has alleged that Rajasthan energy minister Heeralal Nagar has unpaid electricity bills worth over Rs 2 lakh, even as the power supply to Beniwal's official residence and MP office in Nagaur was recently cut over non-payment of dues.
Beniwal claimed to have shared documents showing pending dues of Rs 2.17 lakh for Nagar's government bungalow on Hospital Road. He questioned whether the minister's connection would also be disconnected, as his had been.
According to Beniwal, bills for Nagar's Jyoti Nagar flats were cleared from government funds. However, when officials tried to settle the Hospital Road bill the same way, the treasury reportedly refused, stating that only one bill per minister can be paid from public money.
The minister denied having any pending dues and clarified that the bill in question is still within its due date.
Beniwal further alleged corruption in the installation of smart meters, claiming that the process involved kickbacks reaching up to senior officials, including the minister. He said the tendering process began under the Congress government, but was finalised and implemented under the BJP, without any changes to conditions.

Beniwal also raised allegations against Khivsar MLA Rewant Ram Danga, pointing to overdue bills and alleged rule violations in granting electricity connections. He accused Danga of involvement in irregularities under the Prime Minister's Fasal Bima Yojana and illegal mining activities.
He criticised the state government over the sub-inspector recruitment controversy, alleging inconsistent positions in court and calling it an example of administrative failure. He also named the Nagaur SP and former MP Jyoti Mirdha in alleged illegal sand mining operations.

Tragic Balasore Case: Student's Fatal Self-Immolation Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations

B Tired of too many ads? go ad free now HUBANESWAR/BALASORE: Burns over 70% of the body are life-threatening. The victim had more than 90%, said Dr Dillip Kumar Parida, medical superintendent of AIIMS Bhubaneswar. "She arrived dehydrated. Her urine had stopped. Respiratory burns had damaged her lungs. We tried hard. But the chances were always slim," Dr Parida added. Odisha chief minister (CM) Mohan Charan Majhi has announced Rs 20 lakh in interim compensation for the family and promised the "strictest action" against those responsible for the student's self-immolation. The young woman had filed a formal police complaint on July 1 against an assistant professor for sexual harassment, a day after first reporting the matter to the college principal and tagging state authorities in a social media post. The college's students had been protesting since then, demanding action. The day of her self-immolation marked the eighth day of agitation. Medical experts said that the severity of her injuries worsened when she ran while on fire, intensifying the burns. "In such cases, the first six hours are critical," said Dr Parida. "But she reached our facility four-and-a-half hours after the act. By then, it was already too late." The student's death sparked a public reckoning over emergency response and fire safety awareness. Former chief fire officer Bhabagrahi Ghadei said that spraying water and covering her with a thick, wet cloth could have minimised the flames. "Rolling her on the ground or covering her would have saved her from deeper burns," he added. Police have arrested the accused faculty member and the principal, who allegedly tried to pressure the student into withdrawing her complaint. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now A fact-finding committee has been set up by UGC, while governor and university chancellor Hari Babu Kambhampati vowed "uncompromising punishment". The student's father is a clerk at a govt women's college. He stood near her pyre, trying to make sense of it all. "My daughter was a self-defence master trainer, disaster management trainee, best actress winner, poet, and social worker. Why would she take such an extreme step?" he asked. "If the investigation had started earlier, maybe she would still be here." "She wanted to become a politician. I always wanted her to come home in a convoy, but she came in a hearse," her brother added.

Trump's Big Beautiful Bill: How much money will people in each state save? WH releases interactive map to explore

The White House on Tuesday unveiled an interactive map showing how much Americans across all 50 states are expected to save from US President Donald Trump's newly signed legislation, the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act The MAGA supremo's ambitious bill was signed into law on the Fourth of July after lots of scrutiny. The legislation was championed by Trump since his return to office in January. It delivers sweeping tax cuts and includes provisions to make earlier Trump-era cuts permanent. As part of the rollout, the White House released a state-by-state breakdown showcasing the expected wage boosts, tax exemptions, and savings for seniors and working families, reports Fox News. 'We have officially made the Trump tax cuts permanent,' Trump said during the signing ceremony. 'That's the largest tax cut in the history of our country… After this kicks in, our country is going to be a rocket ship economically.' What the map shows The interactive map focuses on key data points: Real Wage Increase Real Take-Home Pay Increase No Tax on Tips Share Labor Force Benefit Seniors Benefiting from No Tax on Social Security No Tax on Overtime Share Workforce Benefit No Tax on Overtime Potential Share Workforce Benefit Jobs Protected Share Employees in Manufacturing Employers Potentially Eligible for the 199A Deduction Opportunity Zone Jobs Created Opportunity Zone Housing Units Created In California, the most populous state, a family of four with two children could see a real wage increase of $4,900 to $8,800, and a real take-home pay boost of $8,500 to $12,500, according to the data. Nearly 300,000 seniors may benefit from the Social Security tax break, and 29% of the state's labour force could see gains from the tax exemption on overtime pay. On the East Coast, New Jersey families could see take-home pay increases of $8,600 to $12,700, while New Yorkers may benefit from $8,000 to $11,700 increases. The data regarding these financial aspects is present for all 50 US states on the White House interactive map on their website. Legislation's key points The One Big, Beautiful Bill Act not only locks in permanent individual and business tax cuts from Trump's 2017 tax law, but also introduces new tax breaks, including no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, and no tax on Social Security. The bill also repeals certain green energy tax credits introduced under former US President Joe Biden, allocates $350 billion for defence and immigration enforcement, and includes Medicaid reforms. House Speaker Mike Johnson played a crucial role in getting the bill through Congress, though the vote wasn't without resistance. A handful of Republicans, including Senator Rand Paul and Representative Thomas Massie, opposed the measure due to its $5 trillion debt ceiling increase. Tech mogul Elon Musk, once a Trump ally, also publicly opposed the legislation, urging lawmakers to 'kill the bill' over concerns about the rising national debt. White House, Treasury defend savings Trump and US treasury secretary Scott Bessent have defended the bill's impact. 'The bill prevents a $4.5 trillion tax hike on the American people,' Bessent wrote. 'This will allow the average worker to keep an additional $4,000 to $7,200 in annual real wages… and allow the average family of four to keep an additional $7,600 to $10,900 in take-home pay.' 'Add to this the president's ambitious deregulation agenda… these savings are the difference between being able to make a mortgage payment, buy a car, or send a child to college,' he added. A new White House calculator has also been launched to help Americans estimate their personal savings from the bill

Tony Clark denounces MLB salary cap talk as 'institutional collusion' during All-Star break

During All-Star festivities in Atlanta, MLB Players Association executive director Tony Clark reaffirmed the union's firm opposition to a salary cap, warning it would be a regressive step for the sport. Speaking ahead of the All-Star Game, Clark argued that MLB's reported push for a cap - led by commissioner Rob Manfred - is aimed at profit protection rather than the game's growth. Manfred has expressed interest in introducing a salary cap in the next collective bargaining agreement , citing the need for improved competitive balance. However, Clark dismissed that rationale, saying the league is thriving with rising attendance and viewership. "You would think there would be an opportunity to talk about how to build rather than how to go backward," Clark said. "What the interests are that they have is taking the game backward." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo Clark also characterized the cap proposal as ' institutional collusion ' suggesting it's an attempt to suppress player salaries under the guise of economic reform. "A cap is not about a partnership. A cap is not about growing the game," Clark said. "A cap is about franchise values and profits." Live Events While open to improving the current system, Clark emphasized that the union has already made proposals to refine the existing structure and will continue to do so without conceding to a cap model. The current collective bargaining agreement expires on December 1, 2026. Without a new deal, MLB could face a lockout that threatens the 2027 season-a looming labor standoff that now has salary cap tensions at its core.
