Everton at Blackburn Rovers: Match Preview, Starting Lineups, Stream Info & How to Watch

Everton - Travers makes his Everton debut, Beto leads the line. After a rusty performance midweek away at Accrington Stanley to kick off the preseason, David Moyes is going to be looking for more out of his charges today. Will new signings Thierno Barry and Mark Travers get a chance to feature? You would expect the pair to get some second half minutes today away at Blackburn Rovers. There has been no new announced transfer activity since the backup goalie signed, and the fanbase has started to get restless as the need for a right winger as well as additional cover for fullbacks and midfielders remains. Today's opponents Blackburn finished in 7th place last season in the Championship, just outside the promotion playoff spots and will want to make amends this season. 🚨 Everton held to draw at Accrington Stanley in first pre-season game

🚨 Everton held to draw at Accrington Stanley in first pre-season game Everton stumbled to a 1-1 draw with a determined Accrington Stanley side in their opening pre-season game at the Wham Stadium. Scorers: Ward 50'; Beto (pen) 79' While the Toffees unsurprisingly had the better of the first half, they found Stanley goalkeeper Ollie Wright in inspired form. It was the 22-year-old's second game for the club following the confirmation of his season-long loan from Southampton. Advertisement Five minutes after the break, the hosts took a shock lead through Benn Ward who headed home past Harry Tyrer. David Moyes rang the changes throughout the game, and it was two substitutes who combined to draw them level. Young winger Isaac Heath drove down the left, and was taken down inside the box for a penalty. Beto stepped up to slot home in confident fashion to earn a draw for Everton. The Premier League side are next in action on Saturday when they make the short trip to Ewood Park to take on Blackburn Rovers. 📸 Matt McNulty - 2025 Getty Images

Portuguese-born Everton stars lay wreaths at Anfield as Toffees pay respects to Liverpool star Diogo Jota

Portuguese-born Everton stars Youssef Chermiti and Beto laid wreaths at Anfield on behalf of the club and paid their respects to Diogo Jota following his tragic death. The Liverpool forward died on Thursday alongside his brother when his Lamborghini had a tyre blow out while overtaking another vehicle on the A-52 at Cernadilla near Zamora - just ten miles over the border from Portugal. The car is said to have rolled and burst into flames, with emergency services unable to save the footballing duo. Jota's brother, Andre Silva, 26, played for Portuguese second division side Penafiel. Jota and Silva were headed to Santander to catch a ferry to Britain after Diogo was advised not to fly following lung surgery, it was reported in his home country. Jota's untimely death sent shockwaves through the footballing world on Thursday. Throughout the day, back in Liverpool, fans gathered in their hundreds to lay and pay their own tributes to the 28-year-old. This continued into Friday, as those associated with the club mourned for the father-of-three. That afternoon, the two Toffees stars, accompanied by former Toffees midfielder Ian Snodin, contributed to the Anfield tribute. Beto and Chermiti both played for the Toffees in April's Merseyside derby which was decided by Jota's final goal. Earlier, former Reds skipper Jordan Henderson fought back tears as he laid flowers and a Liverpool scarf at Anfield in tribute of his ex-team-mate. The England international, now playing for Dutch giants Ajax, left a heartfelt note to his former team-mate in the bouquet he brought to the site, which read: 'Rest in peace my friend, along with your brother Andre. We will all miss you. Love Hendo + family.' His death, which cast clouds of sorrow over the footballing world, came just two weeks after he married his girlfriend and mother of their three kids Rute Cardoso in Porto, his home city. Current Reds skipper Virgil van Dijk promised to always be available for his family in a moving statement saying he was 'absolutely devastated and in total disbelief' to lose his team-mate of five years. Elsewhere, Liverpool defender Andy Robertson, who forged an incredible connection with the forward during their five years together at Anfield and was also present at Jota's wedding almost two weeks ago, wrote: 'The ones I'm thinking about most right now are the family. 'Their loss is too much to bear. I'm so sorry that they have lost two such precious souls – Diogo and Andre. 'For the team and the Club, we'll try to cope with this together… however long that takes. For me, I want to talk about my mate. My buddy. The bloke I loved and will miss like crazy.' Jota played 182 games for Liverpool and was part of the Premier League title-winning squad from last season under Arne Slot. Doctors had reportedly advised Jota not to catch a plane after a recent operation, so he was getting a boat back to England instead. A Brittany Ferries service from Santander to Plymouth left at 4pm BST on Thursday, arriving in Devon at 11.15am on Friday. According to Record, Jota and new wife Rute attended a friend's wedding over the weekend and had been celebrating together. The lamborghini crash happened on the A-52 in the province of Zamora. The Spanish dual carriageway is a key route taken by drivers after leaving northern Portugal as they head for the ports of Santander and Bilbao or drive north-east towards France. Emergency services in the Castilla and Leon region confirmed the crash and two fatalities at around 12.35am on Thursday. Diogo and Andre's deaths were then confirmed by the Portuguese Football Federation at around 8am. Wreckage at the scene suggested the brothers were driving to the UK in a Lamborghini Huracan Evo Spyder.

He was among the many footie stars to have paid their tributes to the champion footballer. Beto was joined by his teammate Youssef Chermiti and club legend Ian Snodin - honouring Jota's ability to bring together figures from across club rivalries. Meanwhile, touching pictures shared by the Liverpool Football Club showed an emotional Henderson mourning the loss of his former teammate outside the Anfield Stadium. Henderson and Jota played together at Liverpool between September 2020 and June 2023. It comes as Jota's grieving wife was consoled by relatives amid emotional scenes at his funeral chapel today. Rute Cardoso - who married the Liverpool ace just 11 days earlier - arrived at Sao Cosme Chapel in his home town of Gondomar near Porto, northern Portugal, early this morning. Rute, the 28-year-old mum of the striker's three young children, returned with her partner's body after his car smash death in Spain alongside his footballer brother Andre Silva, 25. Gondomar townsfolk gathered yesterday, sporting football shirts and carrying floral tributes as a shrine grew at a nearby sports club. Kop idol Jota, 28, died instantly when his hired acid green £210,000 Lamborghini supercar suffered a suspected tyre blowout and crashed in a fireball on the A52 highway in Zamora province, northern Spain. The brothers were killed instantly in the horror en route to the Spanish port city of Santander to catch a ferry to the UK after the Portugal star was urged not to travel by plane following lung surgery. Their distraught mother Isabel and their grandfather were also spotted at the chapel this morning. Tearful family members were seen hugging each other before walking together towards the chapel. What we know so far: The wake proper is set to start around 4pm, with Portugal's president Marcelo de Sousa among those arriving to pay respects. Crowds began gathering on Thursday night near the chapel - the Capela da Ressurreicao on the outskirts of Porto - and applauded as the brothers' coffins arrived at 11.30pm. A funeral ceremony will take place next door at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar at 10am on Saturday. It is unclear whether tomorrow's proceedings will be open to the public. The sad homecoming came less than 24 hours after the deaths - in keeping with Portuguese tradition to hold wakes and funerals promptly. Tributes have been flooding in since the horrific news, including from Jota's Portugal teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and current Reds boss Arne Slot.
