Human trafficking gang main accused held in Bhojpur

Patna: Police on Sunday arrested the main accused of a human trafficking gang from Ara in Bhojpur district. The accused was identified as Binda Kunwar, a resident of the Chauri police station area in Bhojpur district. The arrest came after five traffickers, including a woman, were previously apprehended and sent to jail in connection with a missing minor girl complaint at Danapur police station on May 19. The gang operated by targeting girls at railway stations, luring them with promises of a better life through marriage, and then selling them in other states, police said. City SP (West), Bhanu Pratap Singh, said the investigation began on May 19 with a complaint about a missing minor girl. "Investigation revealed that the gang was selling minor girls to buyers in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The arrested women trafficker confessed to selling two more minor girls in these states. The network, active in Patna, Ara, Rohtas, and other districts, maintained close connections with brokers in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Police are examining cellphone records of the arrested traffickers and coordinating with their counterparts in both states to apprehend remaining gang members," Singh said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Doutor: Manter a massa muscular após os 50 anos depende deste hábito noturno Revista do Homem Saiba Mais Undo On June 27, Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma exposed the racket during a press conference. According to police investigations, the gang had victimised at least 10 girls in the past six months. "Their modus operandi involved identifying vulnerable girls at railway stations, using women gang members to gain their trust, and temporarily housing them in Bhojpur. The victims were then married in staged ceremonies before being sold to buyers in other states," the SSP said. Ajay Kumar Gupta is the owner of the marriage hall where these fake wedding ceremonies were conducted. The SSP said the arrested kingpin was sent to judicial custody.

624 kids rescued as police crack down on trafficking

1 2 Patna: Bihar Police has stepped up its efforts against human trafficking , identifying Kishanganj, Araria, Arwal, Nalanda and Begusarai as major hotspots. According to data released by the additional director general (ADG) of weaker sections, Amit Kumar, 231 FIRs related to human trafficking and child labour were registered between Jan and May this year. During this period, 624 minors, including 118 girls and 506 boys, were rescued from exploitation. Police arrested 144 traffickers, comprising 127 men and 17 women, under provisions of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act (ITPA) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. "A crackdown on orchestra-related trafficking led to the rescue of 153 minor girls and the arrest of 47 organisers this year," the ADG said, adding that the rescued girls had been trafficked from across India and Nepal, including states like Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The ADG said all rescued minors are presented before the child welfare committee (CWC), which decides whether they should be sent to shelter homes or reunited with their families. "Their statements are recorded both by the police and in court to ensure proper investigation," he said. Districts such as Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj, Motihari, Bettiah and Rohtas have been identified as major centres for orchestra-linked exploitation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Tinnitus: what this grandson discovered will surprise you Hearing Magazine Undo To address this organised criminal activity, the Bihar Police has constituted a special investigation team (SIT) led by Patna city SP (west) Bhanu Pratap Singh. "This is an organised crime with multiple layers. We are determined to reach every link in the chain," the ADG said. He added that police are now coordinating with other states to conduct further raids, as interstate networks have been uncovered. "We are committed to dismantling this nexus and protecting the vulnerable," he said. To improve coordination and standardise procedures, the weaker sections division under the Crime Investigation Department (CID), Bihar, issued two standard operating procedures (SOPs) in March and June 2025. Regional police officers were also issued specific guidelines for swift and effective action. Instructions have been issued to shut down orchestras and prostitution rackets exploiting minor girls, and to take action against the operators under sections 18 and 20 of the ITPA. Authorities have also been asked to confiscate properties acquired through such activities and to ensure speedy investigation and trial. The ADG cited a recent case from Danapur in June 2025, where police rescued an abducted girl and uncovered a trafficking racket in which girls were lured with false promises of love and marriage and then sold to clients from other states. Similar cases were reported in Kishanganj and Begusarai last month. Efforts are also under way to set up anti-human trafficking units at the village level involving panchayat members, teachers, Anganwadi workers, local NGOs and the police, to boost grassroots vigilance and victim support.
