Sovereignty and Journalism battled down the lane with Sovereignty winning in the final strides by a length and a half. While Journalism will race at Churchill Downs on Saturday, Sovereignty will sit out this race due to the short two-week time between the two races. While this means no horse will win the Triple Crown this year, it does give the nine horses a better chance to win the race. Those horses include: Goal Oriented, Journalism, American Promise, Heart of Honor, Pay Billy, River Thames, Sandman, Clever Again, and Gosger.
