Aldi make permanent change to one store and fans are mad fer it
Aldi have permanently changed their name in a shop in Greater Manchester, with some fans calling it 'biblical.' With the Oasis tour in full swing after the band announced their reunion, the Gallagher fronted fivesome played five colossal dates in their hometown when they went to Heaton Park. In honour of the gigs and the Manchester accent, Aldi have changed the name of their Prestwich store — which is near Heaton Park — to 'Aldeh.' Pic: Dave Phillips/PinPep While the change was only meant to be temporary, fans enjoyed the name change so much, including taking pictures outside of it, that it prompted Bury MP Christian Wakefield started a petition to keep the name change which received over 1,300 signatures. 'What started as a nod to a special reunion quickly took on a life of its own. The rebrand resonated with people across Manchester and beyond,' Ms Wakefield said. 'Photos of the sign went viral because it tapped into something meaningful: pride in where we're from, and in what this city has given the world. In short, Prestwich got its own Blue Plaque.' Aldi were on board with the brand change — with the shop itself since being rebranded on Google Maps as a cultural landmark — but said that they needed 10,000 likes on social media as well as a comment from one of the Gallaghers giving their blessings. The rebrand has proven popular with Mancunians, Oasis fans, and Mancunian Oasis fans alike. Pic: Dave Phillips/PinPep The post got 15,000 likes, and while they didn't get a comment, Liam shared a screenshot of the shop on his Instagram, with Noel's daughter Anaïs commenting on the post (they said they needed a Gallagher, not necessarily Noel or Liam!) As a result, the name change in the shop will be permanent; with Aldi UK Chief Executive Giles Hurley writing on LinkedIn 'Last week, a petition was launched by a local resident calling for us to keep the sign. 'So naturally, we took to social media to see what our shoppers thought, turns out… people are mad for it and want the sign to stay.' Liam Gallagher appeared to enjoy the rebrand, as did Noel's daughter Anaïs. Pic: Dave Phillips/PinPep 'I'm pleased to announce that we'll be keeping the Aldeh sign as a tribute to Manchester! As you were.' 'We've been blown away by the public's reaction to 'Aldeh,'' Julie Ashfield, Aldi's Chief Commercial Officer added. 'What started as a fun, temporary tribute to Oasis and the local accent has turned into something far bigger. 'We've heard shoppers loud and clear and we're absolutely delighted to keep the sign up for the long haul.'

A third cleverly crafted his review with Oasis lyrics: "I live Half the World Away, but I was top mad for it. What felt like driving All Around The World. Before the big change, Aldi teased fans on social media about making it a permanent fixture. "Boss said we also need 10,000 likes and a comment from one of the Gallaghers," a spokesperson for the store typed on Facebook. It got 15,000 likes - which meant Aldi had no choice. Liam Gallagher even shared a photo of the name change on Instagram. Noel's daughter Anais also showed her appreciation for the sign on Aldi's TikTok post. Giles Hurley, chief executive officer at Aldi UK, confirmed the move on LinkedIn. "Last week, a petition was launched by a local resident calling for us to keep the sign. Aldi permanently changes name of store in a move shoppers are calling 'biblical'
There's a major change afoot for an Aldi store in Greater Manchester, which is getting a permanent new name: Aldeh. In honour of the Oasis reunion, and the Mancunian accent, the budget retailer changed the name of its Prestwich store, near to Heaton Park where the iconic band is playing its homcoming gigs. The tribute was only meant to be temporary, but it turns out people were 'mad fer it' and it's now set to stay in place for good. The sign had fans queuing up outside the supermarket for selfies and a petition was launched by Manchester local Ella Curtis to keep the rebrand, which was backed by Bury MP Christian Wakefield and received over 1,300 signatures. 'What started as a nod to a special reunion quickly took on a life of its own. The rebrand resonated with people across Manchester and beyond,' she wrote. The sign has since been listed on Google Maps as a cultural landmark, alongside a string of five-star reviews. One visitor declared it 'the Stonehenge of a generation', while one person dubbed it 'Biblical' (as Liam Gallagher would say). 'Went in for some milk and bread, came out with a renewed sense of Mancunian pride,' another wrote. Aldi previously teased fans on social media about making the sign a permanent fixture. 'Boss said we also need 10,000 likes and a comment from one of the Gallaghers,' the Facebook post read. Liam Gallagher himself was on board with the name change, sharing a picture of the 'Aldeh' sign on his Instagram. The rebrand was also supported by Noel's daughter Anais, who commented on Aldi's TikTok post in support. And, with the Facebook post receiving over 15,000 likes, Aldi had no choice but to keep the sign. Giles Hurley, chief executive officer at Aldi UK, confirmed the move on LinkedIn. Aldi announces it will permanently change store's name after Oasis mania
Aldi has confirmed that the 'Aldeh' sign at its Prestwich store will remain in place following the fanfare surrounding the tributary rebrand Oasis mania will Live Forever as a major supermarket tells fans to Stop Crying Your Heart Out over fears a tribute in the Gallagher brothers' hometown will be taken down. Aldi has confirmed that the rebranded 'Aldeh' sign at its Bury New Road store in Prestwich, Manchester will stay put following a wave of public support. The sign - a playful nod to the Mancunian pronunciation of Aldi and a tribute to Oasis ' reunion tour - was initially meant as a temporary feature, set to be removed after the final Manchester gig. However, it swiftly became an unexpected tourist attraction for fans flocking to the city. Oasis enthusiasts and locals alike started queuing for selfies, posts went viral, and a fan petition to make the sign permanent amassed over 1,300 signatures in less than a week. The petition to keep the sign was initiated by a Manchester local, Ella Curtis, who penned: "What started as a nod to a special reunion, quickly took on a life of its own. The rebrand resonated with people across Manchester and beyond. Photos of the sign went viral, because it tapped into something meaningful: pride in where we're from, and in what this city has given the world. In short, Prestwich got its own Blue Plaque." The Prestwich store is just a stone's throw from Heaton Park, where Oasis performed five sell-out shows this month. The sign is now even listed on Google Maps as a cultural landmark, complete with glowing 5* reviews - with one visitor dubbing it 'the Stonehenge of a generation'. Liam Gallagher himself added to the excitement, sharing a snap of the sign on his Instagram story, while local Bury MP Christian Wakeford also expressed his support for the petition. Aldi previously tantalised fans on social media about making the sign permanent, posting: "Boss said we also need 10,000 likes and a comment from one of the Gallaghers". Noel's daughter, Anais, promptly responded on TikTok, and with fans giving the Facebook post over 15,000 likes, Aldi's Chief Executive Officer, Giles Hurley, had no option but to personally back the decision. Hurley confirmed the news on LinkedIn, writing: "In celebration of the Oasis reunion tour, Aldi UK renamed our store closest to Heaton Park, Manchester 'Aldeh'. The response has been supersonic, with Oasis fans and proud Mancunians visiting the store to see it for themselves. "Last week, a petition was launched by a local resident calling for us to keep the sign. So naturally, we took to social media to see what our shoppers thought, turns out… people are mad for it and want the sign to stay. I'm pleased to announce that we'll be keeping the Aldeh sign as a tribute to Manchester! As you were. #Aldeh #OasisReunion #TeamAldi #AldiUK." The Oasis reunion has seen the world's eyes on Manchester over recent weeks. Oasis promoters recently thanked Manchester City Council for "first class delivery" of the city's "most significant" music event after the band's five homecoming shows. The rock band, made up of brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, wrapped up their final night performing at Manchester's Heaton Park on Sunday as part of their reunion world tour Oasis Live '25. The band's highly anticipated homecoming performances – the first in over 16 years, saw thousands of concert goers singing Oasis lyrics back at the brothers, with thousands of ticketless fans gathering outside the concert arena just to hear the band play. Leading up to the concert, the city made it known that the Gallagher brothers were back, as the tram network replaced its announcement voiceover at Heaton Park with Liam's voice on the concert dates. The logistics involved to ensure that the concerts went ahead safely was not overlooked by the concert promoters who recognised Manchester City Council, the emergency services and members of the Safety Advisory team for its support. Rob Ballantine, director of SJM Concerts said: "We were blown away by the incredible support, atmosphere and success of all five homecoming shows by Oasis. They proved they are the most culturally important band in the UK and those concerts will live in the memories of hundreds of thousands of music fans for years to come and will live in the folklore of Manchester music history for decades. "Manchester City Council played a huge part in the success of the concerts and helped the City embrace the excitement with their promotion of Manchester Live '25 across the city. Along with the emergency services and TfGM (Transport for Greater Manchester) the safety and comfort of almost 350,000 fans was of paramount importance and a great success. "SJM Concerts and Oasis want to thank the council, the emergency services and all members of the Safety Advisory Team on a first class delivery of the biggest and most significant music events the city has hosted for many years. "We would also like to acknowledge the incredible atmosphere generated by the fans who seem to have unanimously decided the gigs were the best nights of their lives! It was a privilege to be involved in the huge team of people making these concerts the success they were."
