Spiritual fervour adds to festive spirit in Bokaro

1 2 Bokaro: Amid spiritual fervour and traditional gaiety, the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra was taken out with great devotion here on Friday. The ceremonial chariot procession began at the Jagannath Temple in Sector 4 and concluded at the Ram Temple in Sector 1 with thousands of devotees participating in the procession. Undeterred by rain, men, women, children and elderly devotees turned out in large numbers to pull the chariot, chanting "Haribol" and "Jai Jagannath". The spiritual atmosphere also resonated with the sound of conch shells, cymbals and devotional music. Before the procession began, the traditional ritual of 'Chhera-Pahara' was performed by B K Tiwari, the director-in-charge of Bokaro Steel Plant, who swept the chariot platform as a symbol of humility. "Despite the rain, pulling the chariot felt like a blessing. This is not just a festival... it's a divine connection with Lord Jagannath," said Nitesh Kasyap, a city resident. Social organisations and puja committees set up stalls offering sherbet and refreshments to the devotees along the route. City Centre residents presented 'Chhappan Bhog (56 food offerings)' to the Lord and served sharbat to participants. "It was a deeply spiritual experience. Offering Chhappan Bhog to the Lord and serving water to devotees filled me with inner peace," said Naresh Agarwal, a devotee who distributed prasad at the City Centre.

HC stays probe into FIR against senior BSL officers

Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court has clamped a stay on further investigations into an FIR lodged against senior employees of the Bokaro Steel Plant. BSL director in-charge Birendra Kumar Tiwary and executive director Rajshree Banerjee had moved the HC seeking quashing of the FIR lodged against them. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The officers had challenged the FIR and its proceedings which was initiated after clashes between the Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) and members of the Visthapit Apprentice Sangh. The court of Justice Ananda Sen after hearing the matter ordered a stay in the proceedings on June 10. The Sangh had planned to stage a protest on April 4 agitating their claims for appointment in the steel company. The protest was conducted in front of the main administrative building of the steel plant. The otherwise peaceful demonstration suddenly turned violent leading to clash between the CISF forces and demonstrators leading to the death of a protestor Prem Kumar Mahto. Mahto's father then lodged a FIR against senior BSL employees in this regard which was challenged before the high court. He has alleged that on the orders of the top brass of the steel plant, the CISF personnel went on an offensive claiming the life of Prem Kumar Mahto. Several other FIRs have also been filed due to skirmishes in other areas of the district. The BSL senior management immediately held meetings with the disgruntled apprentices and announced a Rs 20 lakh compensation for the deceased's family, along with contractual employment for one member. Injured persons will receive free treatment at BGH and 10,000 compensation, the management had decided.

BSL's special-grade steel powers Navy warfare

1 2 Bokaro: The Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) has marked another significant step in India's journey towards defence self-reliance by supplying special-grade steel for the Navy's first indigenously designed and built Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), INS Arnala, which was inducted into service on June 18, it said in a statement. Out of the 3,500 tonnes of special steel supplied by SAIL for the ASW-SWC project, BSL contributed 3,100 tonnes. This special-grade steel was used not only in INS Arnala but also in seven other warships under construction at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), showcasing BSL's critical role in strengthening India's naval capabilities, said a SAIL official. This move reinforces SAIL's role in advancing the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) mission. By reducing reliance on imported materials, BSL is contributing to a robust and indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem. Earlier, SAIL-BSL provided special steel for INS Vikrant, INS Vindhyagiri, INS Nilgiri, and INS Surat.
