ESPN airs fake Dak Prescott-George Pickens Cowboys video in massive blunder
If only the Worldwide Leader spent as much time combing through Cowboys fan tweets as it did discussing America's Team. ESPN committed a major blunder Tuesday during a 'First Take' segment centered on the Cowboys, with the show airing what they believed to be social media footage of quarterback Dak Prescott throwing a pass to newly acquired receiver George Pickens at training camp. The problem is, the video — which was shared by the @FergSZN X account Monday — was a clip of Dallas' training camp in 2023, when Prescott connected with then-Cowboys wideout Brandin Cooks. 4 ESPN aired a two-year-old video on Tuesday of Brandin Cooks catching a touchdown at training camp while thinking it was now-Cowboy George Pickens. ESPN The panel, which featured prominent NFL insider Adam Schefter, went about business as usual, while social media users called out the glaring error. 'All ESPN had to do was read the comments,' a user commented. 4 The show had no clue of its mistake and continued on with the segment. ESPN In the video posted by @FergSZN, Cooks was seen wearing a No. 3 jersey, the same number Pickens will don in his first season with the team. Though that's an honest mistake, within X's features, it can be determined that the video was a repost. The original footage was shared in July 2023 by Cowboys insider Kyle Youmans, who provided context on Prescott's pass to Cooks. 4 Brandin Cooks wore No. 3 in his Cowboys tenure, which will now be worn by George Pickens. AP 'It's actually mind blowing how many people fell for this,' @FergSZN wrote shortly after their initial post. ESPN, widely regarded as conductors of the Cowboys' hype train, soon recognized the error of its ways and issued an apology. 'Earlier, we showed video that we identified as George Pickens at Cowboys training camp — it was not George. So, we apologize on that mistake,' host Molly Qerim said later Tuesday. 4 George Pickens is entering his first season with the Cowboys. AP The X user at the center of the video drama, who shared the Prescott-Cooks clip one day before training camp, could hardly believe the network's apology. 'THEY JUST APOLOGIZED FOR SHOWING MY TWEET LMAO,' @FergSZN wrote. The Cowboys, coming off a disappointing 7-10 campaign, are entering a new era under first-year coach Brian Schottenheimer. Dallas opens the season on the road against Philadelphia on Sept 4.

This 65-yard TD pass to Brandin Cooks is the Saints Play of the Day
It's Day 65 in our countdown to the New Orleans Saints' season opener, which means this 65-yard touchdown pass from Drew Brees to Brandin Cooks is our choice for the Saints Play of the Day. You can see it for yourself right here. This was the second touchdown pass from Brees to Cooks in about five minutes, and the Saints needed it. They need all 389 passing yards and each of Brees' four touchdowns to win the day back in 2016. The Arizona Cardinals gave them everything they could handle, and New Orleans only escaped with a win by a margin of 48-41. Unfortunately, this was exactly the kind of game the Saints were known for in the mid-2010's. Advertisement But how did this score come to be? Cardinals defensive lineman Calais Campbell had just stunned the Saints by recovering a fumble and returning it 53 yards for an Arizona score, but Brees answered him with a touchdown of his own. Brees dropped back, faked a handoff to running back Tim Hightower, and found Cooks wide open down the middle of the field. Safety D.J. Swearinger wasn't able to catch up to the speedy receiver, and the Saints retook the lead. A few minutes later, Cooks scored again (this time from 45 yards) and the Saints stayed on top even with Carson Palmer leading a furious comeback effort for Arizona. Dennis Allen was calling the Saints defense at this point, not Rob Ryan, but it still felt like New Orleans was always playing from behind. It took time for that side of the ball to clean itself up and not just end their days of being a liability, but start to become a strength of the team. And we're fortunate they did eventually find their way with Allen on the headset. If things had played out differently and the Saints defense had been a little competent, or just not historically terrible in 2014, 2015, or 2016, maybe Brees' career looks a lot different. But we'll always have these memories. This article originally appeared on Saints Wire: This 65-yard TD pass to Brandin Cooks is the Saints Play of the Day

Spencer Rattler had a good reason for missing Tyler Shough, Brandin Cooks group workout
Tyler Shough, Brandin Cooks organized throwing sessions in Oregon Three of the New Orleans Saints' four quarterbacks joined most of the team's wide receivers at a group workout in Beaverton, Ore. this week -- Nick Underhill reports that Tyler Shough scripted throwing sessions for himself, Jake Haener and Hunter Dekkers. Brandin Cooks organized the whole event with made sure guys like Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed were in attendance. But Spencer Rattler had a good reason for missing out. He had already committed to hosting a youth football camp back in South Carolina and clearly didn't want to leave the campers out to dry. Unlike, say, ex-Pittsburgh Steelers wideout George Pickens, who backed out of a similar commitment of his own after being traded to the Dallas Cowboys. Underhill added that Cooks already worked out with Rattler in Arizona (where Rattler is from) earlier this offseason, and that they're planning to do so again with more of the receivers before camp. Previously, Shough told reporters that he and Cooks were planning workouts in both Oregon and Texas before the Saints regroup for training camp in a few weeks: "We're getting a good group together. It's Brandin Cooks kind of leading that charge. He's such a great influence, just on the whole team, offensively-wise." We'll see if Rattler and the other quarterbacks participate next time in Dallas, but it's reassuring to know he had a valid excuse. Skipping a workout with your teammates because of some beef over a starting job is one thing. A scheduling conflict that puts you on the other side of the country is something else. Keeping your word to a bunch of young athletes and their families is worth taking a rain check to put in some work another day.

Brandin Cooks' record-breaking touchdown catch is the Saints Play of the Day
There's a 98-day stretch between us and the start of the New Orleans Saints' 2025 regular season, and we're counting down the days by looking back on some of the most iconic plays in franchise history. This time, our Saints Play of the Day is the 98-yard touchdown pass from Drew Brees to Brandin Cooks back in 2016, which you can watch here. It was a classic grab-and-go reception by Cooks streaking down the left sideline. Brees dropped back to throw from his own end zone and found Cooks in one-on-one coverage against cornerback Sean Smith. Once Cooks put a step on his opponent, he was gone, and safety Reggie Nelson wasn't able to make up the distance in the open field. Advertisement Cooks broke a Saints record that had stood since their inaugural 1967 season on this play, outgaining Walter Roberts' 96-yard catch to achieve the longest play from scrimmage in team history. And he just returned to the Saints this offseason after spending time with the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, Houston Texans, and Dallas Cowboys. They're hoping he can still uncork some big plays downfield like this one. This article originally appeared on Saints Wire: 2025 Saints season countdown: Brandin Cooks' TD is the Play of the Day
