Leading acting nominations came for Adam Scott and Britt Lower for what amounted to dual roles as their characters' 'innie' work selves and 'outie' home selves. Tramell Tillman got a supporting nod for playing their tone-shifting, pineapple-wielding supervisor. Ben Stiller got a directing nomination. Apple's Hollywood satire 'The Studio' was expected to make a big showing for its first season, but it romped over more established shows like 'Hacks,' which got 14, and 'The Bear,' which got 13. 'The Studio' co-creator Seth Rogen personally got three nominations — for acting, writing and directing. Its A-list roster of guest stars brought in a bounty, with nominations for Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Bryan Cranston, Anthony Mackie and Zoe Kravitz. 'The Penguin,' HBO's dark drama from the 'Batman' universe, was also surprisingly dominant in the limited series category with 24 nominations, including nods for leads Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti. HBO's 'The White Lotus' got its usual flowering of acting nominations, with four cast members including Carrie Coon getting supporting actress nods, and three including Walton Goggins up for supporting actor. It was second in the drama categories to 'Severance' with 23 nominations overall. Netflix's acclaimed 'Adolescence' got 13 nominations, including a supporting actor nod for 15-year-old Owen Cooper, who plays a 13-year-old suspected of a killing. Harvey Guillen and Brenda Song read the nominations in key categories. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. 'The Last of Us' got 16 nominations in drama categories, helping to give HBO what would be a huge year for most outlets, but only an average one for the prestige cable channel given its previous dominance. The streamer has gotten plenty of Emmy nominations for dramas including 'The Morning Show' and 'Slow Horses,' and 'Ted Lasso' was downright dominant on the comedy side. But Apple has lacked the kind of breakaway prestige drama that HBO seems to produce perennially. That could change when the Emmys are handed out in September. 'Severance' got 14 nominations for its first season in 2023, but won just two, for its music and its title sequence. How streaming has changed TV and the Emmys All the shows are living in the splintered world of the streaming era, and the like the Oscars its most acclaimed nominees rarely have the huge audience they once did. While an impressive average of 10 million people per episode watched Wyle on 'The Pitt' at some point on HBO Max, according to Warner Bros. Discovery, 30 years ago an average of 30 million sat down on the same night and watched him on 'ER' on NBC. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. The broadcast networks have largely become Emmy non-entities, with a few shining exceptions. ABC's 'Abbott Elementary' has annually drawn plenty of comedy nominations and should get its share this year. And Oscar-winner Kathy Bates is a front-runner for the best actress in a comedy Emmy for her role on CBS's 'Matlock.' She was the first person nominated in the category from a network show since 2019, and would be the first to win it since 2015. CBS will air the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sept. 14. Nate Bargatze is slated to host. Read More Crime Soccer News Vancouver Canucks News

The usual suspects dominate this year's Emmy nominations
Emmy voters seem to love a show that starts with 'S.' HBO's 'Succession' was an awards season juggernaut. Then FX's 'Shogun' broke records with 18 wins. This year, the drama to beat is Apple TV+'s 'Severance,' which notched a whopping 27 Emmy nominations this morning, including nods for Adam Scott for best lead actor, Britt Lower for best lead actress and the show itself for best drama.

Severance leads 2025 Emmy nomination pack: Where it triumphed and where it fell short
Severance is back at the front of the pack. This year, it's bagged 27 Emmy nominations, more than any other show. Not bad for a series about corporate drones who've had their minds split in two so they can't remember what they do all day. The show's main hook is as bleak as it is brilliant. Lumon Industries, a shadowy biotech giant, has perfected a procedure that divides its workers into 'innies' and 'outies'. At work, you don't remember home. At home, you have no clue what you've done all day. The lines between free will and control, identity and obedience, blur fast. Britt Lower is up for lead actress for her turn as Helly R., whose rebellious streak inside Lumon's sterile corridors sets the second season's engine roaring. She's up against heavyweights like Kathy Bates for Matlock and Bella Ramsey for The Last of Us, but Lower's character arc is the show's pulse. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If you have a mouse, this game will keep you up all night. No Install. Play for free. Navy Quest Adam Scott lands another nomination as Mark S., the grieving widower who clings to the severance procedure like a life raft. This is his second time in this category for Severance, and he's joined by co-stars Tramell Tillman, John Turturro, Zach Cherry and Patricia Arquette in the supporting slots. Together they turn Lumon's basement offices into one of the strangest, saddest places on TV. Severance at the 2025 Emmys: Where it scored and where it fell short Best Drama Series No shock. Severance has topped Emmy odds all year. Live Events Real question: can it beat Andor, The Diplomat, The Last of Us, Paradise, The Pitt, Slow Horses and The White Lotus? Best Actor Adam Scott makes it two for two. His Mark vs Mark face-off keeps him a frontrunner, with Noah Wyle (The Pitt) right there too. Best Actress Britt Lower's switch from Helly to Helena landed her first nod. Big names in the race: Kathy Bates, Bella Ramsey, Keri Russell. Best Supporting Actor (3) Turturro's back. Tillman and Cherry get their first. Walken missed out — screen time dipped. Tillman or Cherry could be first Black winner here. Best Supporting Actress Arquette's in again as Cobel. Lachman (Gemma) was edged out by Coon, Posey, Rothwell, Lou Wood, LaNasa and Nicholson. Best Guest Actor No luck for Robby Benson, John Noble or Michael Siberry. Best Guest Actress Christie, Wever and Alexander made the list. Sydney Cole Alexander didn't. Best Writing Erickson's 'Cold Harbor' finale: Mark vs Mark, Milchick's dance, the brutal triangle blow-up. Best Directing (2) Stiller for 'Cold Harbor'. Gagné for her debut, 'Chikhai Bardo'. Crafts (14) Back for casting, titles, score, editing (3) and production design. Added cinematography, music supervision, sound, stunts, VFX, choreography (Milchick's band). Missed costumes, hair, makeup. The competition: Birds, resorts and broken teens While Severance sits pretty at the top, it's got strong rivals. HBO's The Penguin is the year's biggest limited series contender with 24 nominations. Colin Farrell, unrecognisable as Oz Cobb, earned a nod for lead actor, while Cristin Milioti got one for lead actress. The series follows up on The Batman film, zeroing in on Gotham's underworld. The White Lotus, now firmly in the drama camp, matched The Studio with 23 nods. Its third season dragged its privileged guests to Koh Samui, Thailand. Dark secrets, moral rot and ocean views—business as usual for Mike White's vicious satire. Supporting nods went to a cluster of its ensemble cast, including Walton Goggins and Parker Posey. Over on Netflix, Adolescence proved a surprise hit. Stephen Graham co-created and starred in this raw look at a 13-year-old accused of murder. Graham called young lead Owen Cooper's debut 'an astonishing debut', telling The Envelope, 'I can't find enough superlatives to describe the boy.' Cooper, just 15, could join the tiny club of teenagers to ever win an Emmy. Old hands, new highs This year also gave us a couple of firsts. Harrison Ford, at 83, bagged his first career Emmy nomination for Shrinking, a bittersweet comedy where he plays a sardonic therapist. Meanwhile, RuPaul broke his own record, becoming the most nominated reality host in Emmys history for RuPaul's Drag Race. And yes, the usual heavy hitters turned up. The Bear roared back with Jeremy Allen White leading the comedy actor pack. Quinta Brunson returned for Abbott Elementary, continuing her roll as both star and creator. It's easy to see why Severance keeps pulling in nominations. It's not just dystopian window dressing. It holds up a warped mirror to office culture, asking what we trade away every time we clock in. In an era when work and life bleed into each other through screens and endless pings, the show's core question lands hard: if you could cut work out of your mind entirely, would you? And what would you lose in the process? Behind the glossy Apple TV+ sheen is a series that refuses to let you forget who's really in control. It's sharp, unsettling, and still weirdly funny. No other show this year stitches existential dread to fluorescent office lights quite like it. Come 14 September in Los Angeles, we'll see if it can convert those 27 nods into trophies. No matter what, Severance has already done what the best television does: it made us look at our own lives and ask if we're really awake.

‘Severance' and ‘The White Lotus' Dominate the Emmy Acting Categories
TV buzz doesn't always translate into Emmy nominations. But it did this year for 'Severance' and 'The White Lotus,' which have amassed rabid fandoms that gather online and in real life to dissect and celebrate the dramas. The second season of 'Severance,' the mind-bending sci-fi workplace thriller on Apple TV+, earned 27 nominations on Tuesday morning, the most of any show this year. Nine of those went to its cast, including Adam Scott and Britt Lower for best lead actor and actress in a drama. Supporting nods went to Patricia Arquette, Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman and John Turturro. Guest acting nominations went to Jane Alexander, Gwendoline Christie and Merritt Wever. Season 3 of 'The White Lotus,' the darkly comic HBO drama that skewers self-absorbed luxury travelers, earned 23 nominations, including eight for its cast, which is mostly refreshed with each new season. This year, Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Sam Rockwell, Natasha Rothwell and Aimee Lou Wood received supporting acting nominations. Scott Glenn was nominated for best guest actor in a drama. 'Severance' and 'The White Lotus' were both nominated for best drama. The other contenders are: 'Andor,' 'The Diplomat,' 'The Last of Us,' 'Paradise,' 'The Pitt' and 'Slow Horses.' Originally considered a limited series, 'The White Lotus' cleaned up in that category at the 2022 Emmys, winning 10 awards, more than any other show, including best limited series. The show moved to the drama category for its second season. 'Severance' and 'The White Lotus' were not eligible for Emmys in 2024, and in previous years, they were mostly thwarted in the drama category by the former juggernaut 'Succession.' With that series over and last year's record-breaking drama 'Shogun' out of contention this time around, there's a good chance 'Severance' and 'The White Lotus' will be duking it out for the night's biggest haul. The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on Sept. 14 in Los Angeles. CBS will broadcast the ceremony.
