Just for Laughs founder Gilbert Rozon asked to explain comments on 1998 sex assault
Just for Laughs founder Gilbert Rozon is seen in the corridors of the Montreal courthouse during a break in his civil trial on Monday, June 30, 2025. (Christopher Katsarov/The Canadian Press) MONTRÉAL — Just for Laughs founder Gilbert Rozon was asked to explain his public comments from 2011 about a sexual assault as he pursued his testimony in a high-profile civil trial in Montreal. The comments were raised by lawyer Bruce Johnston, who represents nine women suing the disgraced former comedy mogul for nearly $14 million in Superior Court. Rozon had made the comments in an interview he gave to TV personality Josélito Michaud in 2011 about an assault of a woman at a party east of Montreal in the 1990s. Rozon told Michaud in the interview he was paying for that one, but could have paid for many others before that. Rozon testified he was referring to paying for past episodes of drunk driving. He says he did not sexually assault the woman but pleaded guilty under pressure from his family to save the international comedy festival. This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 7, 2025.

The Beach Boys Chart A Debut Top 10 Hit With A Half-Century-Old Song
After Brian Wilson's death, the Beach Boys earn a first top 10 on the Digital Song Sales chart with ... More 'God Only Knows,' which debuts at No. 7. The Beach Boys. (Photo by Malcolm MacNeil/Mirrorpix/Getty Images) Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys fame passed away earlier this month at the age of 82. As is typically the case whenever a musical legend dies, the world mourns its loss by returning to the songs and albums that made him a pioneer. After a truncated tracking week, during which the sad news was revealed, several Beach Boys classics become bestselling tracks in America. The group even collects an initial top 10 smash on one of Billboard's most competitive lists. The Beach Boys Earn a First Top 10 The Beach Boys debut in the top 10 on the Digital Song Sales chart this week with 'God Only Knows.' That lovely tune opens at No. 7 on the ranking of the bestselling tracks in the United States. Luminate reports that during the most recent tracking period — which is when people learned of Wilson's passing — the song sold just under 4,200 copies. The Beach Boys Trail Sabrina Carpenter and Mariah Carey It's a busy week for new arrivals on the Digital Song Sales chart, and The Beach Boys collect the fifth loftiest debut this time around. The legendary pop-rock outfit trails just behind new singles by Oliver Anthony Music ('Scornful Woman,' No. 2), Sabrina Carpenter ('Manchild,' No. 3), Mariah Carey ('Type Dangerous,' No. 4), and Lil Wayne with Nicki Minaj ('Banned From NO,' No. 5). 'Wouldn't It Be Nice' Also Debuts The Beach Boys have only ever sent three tracks to the Digital Song Sales chart — and two of them arrive this week. Coming in behind 'God Only Knows' is 'Wouldn't It Be Nice,' which opens at No. 18. These tunes now rank as the group's highest-performing hits on this particular roster. The only other Beach Boys cut to reach this tally was 'Little Saint Nick,' which showed up on the week dated Christmas Day 2010. At that time, the chart included many more positions than the 25 it features now. That cut only rose as high as No. 63 and spent just one frame on the list before disappearing. Beach Boys Claim Four Spots on the Rock Chart The Beach Boys perform even better on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, where the band fills four spaces. 'God Only Knows' is joined by 'Good Vibrations,' 'Surfin' U.S.A.,' and 'Sloop John B' — all of which land on that genre-specific list for the very first time.

The Beach Boys story includes member whose roots began in Peoria, Illinois
Brian Wilson, the musical genius at the center of the iconic surf band The Beach Boys, died on Wednesday, closing a large and important chapter in the band's incredible legacy. He was 82. Another chapter includes a Grammy Award winner whose own story began in Peoria, Illinois. Bruce Johnston, 82, was born in Peoria in 1942 and "kept for just a few weeks at the Crittenton Home in West Peoria, then a haven for unwed mothers," according to a 2009 Journal Star story. After a few weeks, Johnston was adopted by William and Irene Johnston of Chicago, who then soon took their new family to Los Angeles. Johnston still tours with The Beach Boys, along with co-founder and front man Mike Love and guitarist Al Jardine. They have shows planned this weekend in New York and will be at the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan, Illinois, on Sept. 5. The Beach Boys last played in Peoria in 2016. In 2009, Johnston told the Journal Star that he had worked with Crittenton Centers to find some of his family with roots in Peoria. "I was able to track down my family. Very cool," Johnston said of finding half-siblings in Georgia. "It was a good thing." Johnston's time with The Beach Boys began in 1965, one year after Wilson stopped touring with the band. The move allowed Wilson to focus on studio work — where in 1966 he created the band's masterpiece "Pet Sounds," what calls a 1966 "bittersweet pastiche of songs recalling the pangs of unrequited love and other coming-of-age trials." It was said to have inspired The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Clubs Band," released in 1967. Johnston briefly left the band in 1972, but returned in 1978. While solo, Johnston won a Grammy Award for writing the Barry Manilow hit "I Write The Songs."
