Fleetwood Mac reunion rumours sparked by cryptic post from Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks performed at Glasgow's Hydro last July but fans hope a reunion with Lindsey Buckingham could be on the cards. Former Fleetwood Mac legends Stevie Nicks and her ex-flame Lindsey Buckingham have set tongues wagging with hints they could be plotting a musical comeback together. ‌ Devotees have been buzzing with anticipation after the pair shared mysterious social media posts this week. Stevie, 77, and Lindsey, 75, who were romantically linked during the 1970s, are believed to have grown apart in recent times following his latest exit from the group in 2018. ‌ Their former bandmate Mick Fleetwood, 78, revealed last year his desire to witness the duo patch things up down the line. Supporters are now wondering if a reconciliation might be on the cards after both Stevie and Lindsey posted lyrics from one of their tracks on Instagram tonight, reports the Mirror. ‌ Stevie shared: "And if you go forward ..." with Lindsey completing the verse by posting: "I'll meet you there." The handwritten words, featured in their individual uploads, are taken from the chorus of their track Frozen Love. ‌ The song appeared on their record Buckingham Nicks, which dropped in 1973, before they became part of Fleetwood Mac. Both posts were shared without any explanation, prompting countless admirers to flood the comments asking for clarification. One follower questioned: "OMG! What does it mean?" whilst another pleaded: "Confirm what's going on pls." ‌ Others began theorising about a potential comeback. One enthusiast declared: "Right I think there's going to be another reunion." Someone else exclaimed: "Buckingham Nicks? ? ? ? ? Is it? ? ? Reunion? ? ? Ahhhh." ‌ Some enthusiasts pondered whether a vinyl release or streaming debut of their joint album was in the works. One queried: "Buckingham Nicks vinyl release? ?" While another enquired: "Is Buckingham Nicks just coming to streaming?" These speculations surfaced following a video post by their ex-bandmate Mick, who was seen enjoying Frozen Love on the platform. Both Stevie and Lindsey reposted Mick's clip on their Instagram Stories. ‌ Mick captioned his shared post, which also appeared on Fleetwood Mac's official account, with: "Magic then, magic now." The marriage of Stevie and Lindsey. The marriage of coming into Fleetwood Mac when they did. It's all in this song. It's in the music that played on for so many years. It's magic then. Magic now. What a thrill! What a thrill! Amen." Stevie and Lindsey, romantically linked at the time, formed Buckingham Nicks in 1973 after their stint in Fritz. They became part of Fleetwood Mac the subsequent year, and the once- couple, who parted ways in 1976, eventually left the band at different times. They made a comeback in 1997 when the band reunited, but Lindsey departed once more in 2018. Stevie stayed with Fleetwood Mac, however, the band hasn't played together since the passing of Christine McVie in 2022.

The signs Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham are getting back together

Rumours have always been the lifeblood of Fleetwood Mac, from the name of their 40-million selling album in 1977 to the mind-boggling web of intimate relationships between bandmates. Key members Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham may be 77 and 75 respectively, but the former lovers have sent the rumour mill into overdrive yet again with a series of cryptic social media posts. Almost six decades after the original iteration of the band formed, the psychodrama continues. And it feels strangely reassuring. Here's what happened. On Thursday afternoon, Nicks posted five words in squiggly writing followed by an ellipsis on her Instagram account: 'And if you go forward…' A hardcore contingent of her 2.2 million followers went bananas, recognising the words as lyrics from a 1973 song called Frozen Love, which appeared on Buckingham Nicks, her sole album with Buckingham before the pair joined Fleetwood Mac the following year. An hour later, excitement hit Defcon 1. Buckingham, with whom Nicks has always had an intense and tortured relationship, put a similarly squiggly-written post on his own Instagram account. 'I'll meet you there,' he wrote – the second half of the line that Nicks had posted shortly before. Cue a landslide of excitement and speculation. 'Buckingham Nicks in 2025 was not on my bingo card,' wrote one fan. '60-year situationship is crazy,' wrote another. A third fan, assuming that a joint tour was being suggested, wrote: 'Stop it! I will liquidate my assets for front row tickets RIGHT NOW.' So what's going on? Just as the pair no doubt intended, we're all in the dark. A contact of mine put me in touch with Buckingham's manager, but he was keeping shtum. There are four possibilities. One is that, as the asset liquidator assumes, the pair are going to hit the road together. Nicks, who drew a vast crowd at London's BST Hyde Park last summer, already has a massive US tour starting next month and Buckingham has nothing planned. It's entirely feasible. The second possibility is that a wider Fleetwood Mac reunion is on the cards. Frozen Love was the song that led drummer Mick Fleetwood to ask Buckingham to join the band back in 1974 (he said yes, on the condition that his musical partner and girlfriend Nicks could join too). It was actually Fleetwood who kicked the whole thing off on Wednesday when he posted a video snippet of himself listening to Frozen Love on Instagram. 'Magic then, magic now,' Fleetwood wrote. Fleetwood Mac last toured in 2019, with Crowded House's Neil Finn replacing Buckingham, who was fired after a reported disagreement with the band over tour dates. However the death of Christine McVie in 2022 might have put paid to this: Nicks told Mojo magazine last year that there's 'no chance' of the band getting back together without McVie. The third possibility is that nothing is going on. It's just a truce between old lovers. The fourth reason, and the most likely, is the re-release and digitisation of the Buckingham Nicks album. With its sleeve featuring a topless photo of the hirsute sweethearts, the record bombed on its release and has never even been available on streaming platforms. There would be huge demand for it. More than Kurt and Courtney or Mick and Marianne, Nicks and Buckingham are rock's most famous couple. Theirs was a story of backstabbing and bed-hopping. They met at high school in California, joined a band called Fritz and became lovers. Their passionate and stormy relationship lasted until 1976 before it brutally collapsed, just as Fleetwood Mac were writing Rumours. Both were too proud to walk away from the band. Nicks later had a brief affair with Fleetwood – hardly the recipe for smooth band relationships. Nicks and Buckingham's tempestuous relationship yielded some of pop's greatest songs. Buckingham wrote the self-explanatory Go Your Own Way and Never Going Back Again about Nicks. She wrote Dreams about Buckingham ('You say you want your freedom… But listen carefully to the sound of your loneliness'). As Nicks later described it: 'He's looking at it from a very unpleasant, angry way, and I'm saying, in my more airy-fairy way, 'We're gonna be alright. We'll get through this.'' To a point, Stevie. Her most intense song about Buckingham was Silver Springs, which was intended for Rumours but ended up as a B-side to Go Your Own Way (the yin and yang of a relationship right there on one seven-inch disc). The lyrics to Silver Springs are excoriating. 'I know I could have loved you / But you would not let me,' Nicks sang, before going on: 'You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loved you.' A live performance of Fleetwood Mac performing Silver Springs in 1997 is one of the most impassioned and powerful pieces of live music imaginable – explaining why it has more than 50 million views on YouTube. The intensity of the song is breath-taking. As Nicks sings, she constantly glances at Buckingham, to her left, until they both hold each other's stares and sing directly at each other. ' Never get away,' Nicks sings with fervid intensity, her anger – decades on – never far from the surface. I saw Fleetwood Mac play in Dublin in 2015 and the interplay between Nicks and Buckingham was still captivatingly intense. There was a sense of unfinished business there, of two former lovers whose issues with each other remained unresolved. Whatever these cryptic new posts mean, it's a chapter that remains tantalisingly open. After all this time, they're still finishing each other's sentences.

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham spark Fleetwood Mac reunion rumors

Fans are hypnotized by this social media exchange. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham have sparked reunion rumors with seemingly coordinated Instagram posts. The musicians famously dated in the late '60s and made the 1973 studio album 'Buckingham Nicks.' Shortly after, Nicks, 77, and Buckingham, 75, joined Fleetwood Mac. One follower wrote, 'What in the silver springs is going on around here!!!!' while a second chimed in, 'no because what is going on in this house.' 'Buckingham nicks in 2025 was not on my bingo card,' a third person added. 'DID WE KISS AND MAKE UP? Oh my god GUYS. WHAT IS HAPPENING?!' another asked. A girl can dream.' However, this wouldn't be Buckingham's first reunion with a Fleetwood Mac member in recent months. In March, the guitarist reunited with Mick Fleetwood. 'And to see his genuine happiness for Mick to finally do his own album and offering to play guitar and to sing on it. Can't wait to finish this one.' Nicks and Buckingham, meanwhile, first met as high schoolers near Palo Alto, Calif., in the 1960s. Buckingham was a guitarist in his rock band Fritz, and asked Nicks to join as their lead singer. After 50 years, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham create new rumors

Almost 50 years later, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham still can't quit stirring rumors. Two parts of a tempestuous love affair that helped buoy Fleetwood Mac's success, Nicks and Buckingham whipped fans of the '70s rock band into a tizzy this week when they hinted at a possible reunion. In separate posts on social media, they shared what appeared to be a handwritten exchange. "And if I go forward..."a note, posted July 17 on Nicks' X account, seemingly in her loopy cursive, read. "I'll meet you there," a twin message, posted to Buckingham's page, responded, scrawled out in different handwriting. Stevie Nicks solo tour gets more dates: How to get tickets Together, the notes form a line from "Frozen Love," a song off the pair's 1973 album "Buckingham Nicks," their first and only joint venture before joining Fleetwood Mac the following year. Elsewhere on the internet, Mick Fleetwood, a drummer and founding member of the band, fanned the flames, sharing a video on Instagram of him listening to the track, captioned "Magic then, magic now." USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Nicks and Buckingham for comment. While Fleetwood Mac, as a collective, rose to the top of the charts in the 1970s and enjoys widespread popularity now, it is the fraught personal and musical tie between Nicks and Buckingham that continues to inspire a cult-like interest. Best Fleetwood Mac songs of all time, from 'Dreams' to 'Go Your Own Way' An on-again, off-again couple at the height of the band's success, their love affair became the stuff of legend, particularly after "Rumors," a 1977 album littered with lyrics about betrayal and infidelity, offered a raw if not cryptic glimpse into their troubles. Tracks like "Silver Springs" and "Go Your Own Way" are memorialized as testaments to a brilliant but troubled musical pairing, whose personal animus bled into their art. In the years since, Nicks and Buckingham have buried the hatchet, but rarely performed together. Now, fans are hoping their social media posts are teasing a reunion. Whether its an album, radio single, memoir or just a joint performance, though, remains, like the best Fleetwood Mac projects, a rumor.

As Fleetwood Mac tease potential reunion, which bands would we love to see follow suit?

It's the year of the reunion, apparently — as Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks have teased a potential reassembly of the band. Lindsey and Stevie, who were bandmates and a couple before their sensational breakup (and the incredible album that coincided with it), shared a cryptic Instagram post from their respective Instagrams that were lyrics to their joint song Frozen Love, which featured on their sole album as a duo, Buckingham Nicks. The rumour mill has since spun into overdrive, and with Oasis going on their sell out reunion tour 16 years after Noel and Liam's fistfight that caused the elder Gallagher to quit, fans are clamouring for reunions; but who else could reunite in the near future? Could it really happen again after Stevie and Lyndsey's cryptic Instagram post? Pic:We might as well start with the most likely one, as there is actually far more to the story than a cryptic Instagram post. Fleetwood Mac have broken up and reunited more times than most could remember, with the final 'breakup' coming in tragic circumstances, following the passing of Christine McVie in 2022. While Mick Fleetwood said that the band was done and Stevie Nicks said she saw no reason to continue the band following Christine's death, Mick's stance changed back in September, when he said he'd be up to re-assemble the band. And with Stevie and Lyndsey's post on Instagram appearing to hint at something , fans of the rock band are waiting with baited breath to see what comes next. Of course, Blur were involved in the Battle of Britpop with Oasis; but with Oasis kicking off their own reunion tour earlier this year, surely Blur may return after their final gig last year. Pic: Avalon/Getty Images Listen, if it's good enough for Oasis, then why not Blur? The Britpop band were set to go on their second hiatus in 2023, before being offered to play Coachella in 2024; something that drew media attention after frontman Damon Albarn's frustrations at the crowd's lack of interaction during Girls & Boys. During their second weekend performance, Damon Albarn admitted that this may be the last time the band perform together, and true to his word they haven't played since. But come on, lads, what do you say: Battle of Britpop 2? Destiny's Child last performed in 2018, with fans hoping for a comeback in some way since. Larry W Smith/EPA/REX/Shutterstock Again, Destiny's Child have technically reunited already — albeit once, during Beyoncé's headline set at Coachella in 2018. But surely a reunion tour/album isn't totally outside the realm of possibility? The final line-up of the 90s pop group was Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams — all of whom have had stellar solo careers in their own rights. The trio performed their farewell performance at the 2006 NBA All-Star Game in February, 2006 but have collaborated a number of times since. With a number of collabs and cameos in music videos, Beyoncé has said that she's up for a reunion with Kelly and Michelle; but with her Cowboy Carter tour still ongoing, we might have to wait a little while longer before the trio reunite. Outkast haven't played together since 2014, and haven't released an album since 2006. Pic:Fans have been waiting patiently for the Atlanta rap duo of André 3000 and Big Boi to finally put out a new album after 2006's Idlewild, but so far we've had nothing. Both rappers have put out solo efforts, with André's New Blue Sun taking a hard left turn as a flute album rather than a rap album. And while the pair did reunite for a 2014 string of shows, that's been it. But with a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction happening this year, could a reunion be on the cards in any capacity?
