Cops seize RM4.16mil in imitation firearms during raids nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR: Approximately RM4.16mil worth of imitation firearms were seized following coordinated raids on several premises in Johor, Selangor, and Kuala Lumpur. Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order (KDNKA) department director Comm Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim reported that the raids were conducted simultaneously by the department's Wildlife Crime Bureau/Special Intelligence Investigation (WCB/PSK) division on Monday (June 30). "In the first operation in Kepong, 4,983 fake weapons worth RM4.1mil were seized along with 1,400 boxes of snacks during raids on two premises. We also detained four foreign men aged between 28 and 40," he said on Tuesday (July 1). Comm Azmi stated that in the second operation, 53 imitation firearms worth RM31,520 were seized, and a local man was detained following raids at two premises. "The third operation in Batu Pahat, Johor, resulted in the detention of a local man and the seizure of 15 fake weapons worth RM15,000," he added. Comm Azmi confirmed that all the fake firearms seized in the three operations were valued at RM4.16mil. "We believe the suspects have been selling imitation firearms online for a few months. We had to conduct these operations as suspects detained in previous criminal cases had been using imitation firearms. "We aim to prevent the misuse of these imitation firearms to avoid public distress and fear," he said. Comm Azmi urged social media platform providers and administrators of online e-commerce sites to monitor and prevent the sale of illegal items on their respective sites and to cooperate with the authorities. "Members of the public must not buy or use imitation firearms. Contact the police immediately if they come across the sale of such items," he advised. On a separate note, Comm Azmi mentioned that the WCB/PSK has conducted 153 raids and detained 233 individuals between January 1 and June 30. They managed to seize RM433.3mil worth of items, including contraband, wildlife, and e-waste products during the same period.

KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities have seized items worth around RM5.7bil, including contraband and electronic waste, as part of various operations this year by the Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order (KDNKA) department. "I commend all personnel and officers who showed extraordinary dedication and commitment that led to such successes," he said in his speech during the department's monthly assembly on Tuesday (July 1). He also reminded the department's top officers to ensure that all allowances and incentives for lower-rank officers are given, in line with the principles of integrity and fairness. Comm Azmi said efforts must be made to strengthen training at all levels so that all officers and personnel can benefit from it. "It will lead to all becoming more proactive, knowledgeable and ready to face any challenge," he added.

RM500mil in e-waste seized in Ops Hazard 2.0

KUALA LUMPUR: About half a billion ringgit worth of e-waste was seized following raids on 57 premises in nine states during Ops Hazard 2.0. The special operation was conducted on Monday (Jan 16) and involved multiple agencies, led by the police's General Operations Force. Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order director Comm Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said the Inland Revenue Board also estimated possible tax evasion involvement amounting to RM500mil. "We detained 453 individuals aged between 16 and 70 during the operation. "41 locals were detained while the rest were foreigners from various countries, including Myanmar, Bangladesh, Cambodia and the Philippines," he told a press conference in Bukit Aman on Thursday (June 19). He said the items seized were RM240mil worth of e-waste byproducts, RM182mil of e-waste components and others worth RM82mil. "Among the offences detected were conducting an illegal e-waste processing business, employing undocumented migrants, and not having valid business licenses," he added. Comm Azmi said the latest operation brings the total value of e-waste materials seized since January to RM13.2bil while 1,061 individuals have been detained," he said. Comm Azmi said Ops Hazard 2.0 was able to increase the pressure on the illegal e-waste industry. "It consists of total action in detecting offences committed and busting syndicated crimes. "We detected that the syndicates used proxies to conduct the illegal activities and exploited loopholes in the laws," he said. A total of 1,582 officers and personnel were involved in Ops Hazard 2.0.

No security incidents during 46th Asean Summit, says Bukit Aman

KUALA LUMPUR: The 46th Asean Summit and Related Meetings, held from May 22 until May 27 in the capital, concluded smoothly without any security incidents. Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order deputy director (operations) Deputy Comm MV Sri Kumar said the smooth security arrangements for all heads of state, delegations, and staff were made possible through the close cooperation of all parties, particularly the Foreign Ministry and other relevant agencies. 'The movement of heads of state and delegations to and from the conference venue went according to plan. Security arrangements for all parties throughout the summit were also well-executed,' he said when contacted Wednesday (May 28). He added that the phased road closures around hotels accommodating the delegations and the conference venue were implemented smoothly, with strong cooperation from the public. Media previously reported that nearly 6,200 PDRM officers and personnel were deployed during the summit period to ensure comprehensive security coverage. The phased road closures, which began on May 23, involved six highways and 25 main roads across the Klang Valley to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of delegations. Dry run ahead of summit

KUALA LUMPUR: A long convoy of vehicles was the subject of public attention as it made its way to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The convoy literally stopped traffic as it headed towards the city centre. These cars were part of a security simulation exercise carried out by the police in preparation for the 46th Asean Summit and Related Summits which Malaysia, as Asean Chair, is hosting. The simulation, involving the convoy of vehicles of the delegation and country leaders, was conducted based on the actual movement schedule. Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order (operations) deputy director Deputy Comm MV Sri Kumar said in addition to route control, personnel are also tasked with monitoring movement and overseeing security preparations. "This includes the use of metal detectors and facial recognition technology,' he said during the exercise. More than 6,200 officers and personnel have been assigned for duty throughout the summit. DCP Sri Kumar urged the public to cooperate fully with authorities. "We are only implementing phased road closures for a week to ensure the smooth running and safety of the event,' he said. He also advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in and around the capital during this period. The 46th Asean Summit will begin with senior officials' meetings tomorrow, followed by ministerial-level meetings on May 25, while the leaders' summit will commence on May 26. In conjunction with the summit, six highways and 25 major roads in the capital will be closed or diverted in stages to facilitate smooth traffic flow and ensure the security of the event.
