Dry run ahead of summit
The convoy literally stopped traffic as it headed towards the city centre.
These cars were part of a security simulation exercise carried out by the police in preparation for the 46th Asean Summit and Related Summits which Malaysia, as Asean Chair, is hosting.
The simulation, involving the convoy of vehicles of the delegation and country leaders, was conducted based on the actual movement schedule.
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order (operations) deputy director Deputy Comm MV Sri Kumar said in addition to route control, personnel are also tasked with monitoring movement and overseeing security preparations.
"This includes the use of metal detectors and facial recognition technology,' he said during the exercise.
More than 6,200 officers and personnel have been assigned for duty throughout the summit.
DCP Sri Kumar urged the public to cooperate fully with authorities.
"We are only implementing phased road closures for a week to ensure the smooth running and safety of the event,' he said.
He also advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in and around the capital during this period.
The 46th Asean Summit will begin with senior officials' meetings tomorrow, followed by ministerial-level meetings on May 25, while the leaders' summit will commence on May 26.
In conjunction with the summit, six highways and 25 major roads in the capital will be closed or diverted in stages to facilitate smooth traffic flow and ensure the security of the event.

ASEAN security agendas for September meeting in Melaka
SEMPORNA: A total of 10 security agendas will form the consensus and focus of discussions at the ASEAN Ministers' Meeting on Security in Melaka in September. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who will chair the meeting, said among the topics to be discussed are tackling cross-border crimes, intelligence sharing, capacity building and joint operations. 'To tackle cross-border crimes, we will leverage our ASEAN Chairmanship this year as the best platform to exchange information and ideas that can be developed into strategies for effectively addressing security issues,' he said. He told reporters this after the Security Briefing and Monitoring Programme with the Home Minister and Foreign Delegates here today. According to Saifuddin, the three-day meeting would be fully utilised at the ASEAN ministerial level to present and discuss ASEAN security issues for the common interest. 'We can see certain things, but there are also some things we can't see, but our neighbours (neighbouring countries) can. These are among the matters that can be presented at the ASEAN meeting,' he said. - Bernama

Cops seize RM4.16mil in imitation firearms during raids nationwide
KUALA LUMPUR: Approximately RM4.16mil worth of imitation firearms were seized following coordinated raids on several premises in Johor, Selangor, and Kuala Lumpur. Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order (KDNKA) department director Comm Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim reported that the raids were conducted simultaneously by the department's Wildlife Crime Bureau/Special Intelligence Investigation (WCB/PSK) division on Monday (June 30). "In the first operation in Kepong, 4,983 fake weapons worth RM4.1mil were seized along with 1,400 boxes of snacks during raids on two premises. We also detained four foreign men aged between 28 and 40," he said on Tuesday (July 1). Comm Azmi stated that in the second operation, 53 imitation firearms worth RM31,520 were seized, and a local man was detained following raids at two premises. "The third operation in Batu Pahat, Johor, resulted in the detention of a local man and the seizure of 15 fake weapons worth RM15,000," he added. Comm Azmi confirmed that all the fake firearms seized in the three operations were valued at RM4.16mil. "We believe the suspects have been selling imitation firearms online for a few months. We had to conduct these operations as suspects detained in previous criminal cases had been using imitation firearms. "We aim to prevent the misuse of these imitation firearms to avoid public distress and fear," he said. Comm Azmi urged social media platform providers and administrators of online e-commerce sites to monitor and prevent the sale of illegal items on their respective sites and to cooperate with the authorities. "Members of the public must not buy or use imitation firearms. Contact the police immediately if they come across the sale of such items," he advised. On a separate note, Comm Azmi mentioned that the WCB/PSK has conducted 153 raids and detained 233 individuals between January 1 and June 30. They managed to seize RM433.3mil worth of items, including contraband, wildlife, and e-waste products during the same period.
