Bayern Munich star Joao Palhinha responds to Arsenal transfer approach
Arsenal and Inter Milan have been linked with Bayern Munich's Joao Palhinha this summer (Picture: Getty) Joao Palhinha has distanced himself from reports that he could be on the move and insists he is 'very motivated' to 'prove his worth' at Bayern Munich next season. The 30-year-old will have been desperate to make up for lost time last term after joining Bayern in a £47.4m transfer from Fulham, 12 months after seeing a proposed deal collapse. But injury problems meant Palhinha never really got going across what was a frustrating debut season in German football, in which the midfielder made just six league starts. There has been some speculation that Palhinha could already be deemed surplus to requirements in Munich amid fierce competition for places in Vincent Kompany's engine room. Palhinha is battling it out for minutes with Leon Goretzka, Aleks Pavlovic, Joshua Kimmich, Konrad Laimer and new signing Tom Bischof and the Portuguese has been given no assurances that he will be a regular starter next season. Serie A giants Inter Milan are known to be admirers of Palhinha, while a report emanating out of Germany this week claimed Arsenal had held 'serious' talks to sign the Bayern man before the Club World Cup. Clubs from Spain, Turkey and Portugal are also believed to be monitoring Palhinha's situation at the Allianz Arena. 'I have a contract for three more years, so I'll report for duty on July 29, which is when we start this pre-season,' he said. 'As I've said several times, and it's been a recurring question, I have three more years on my contract.' 'I don't know what will happen, but I'm at a great club, as I've always said, he added. 'Obviously, it hasn't been an easy year, but as soon as the season starts, I'm very motivated to prove my worth once again at a very special club, a huge club. More Trending With Jorginho and Thomas Partey both having departed the Gunners this summer, new sporting director Andrea Berta has been determined not to leave Mikel Arteta short in the middle of the park. Kepa Arrizabalaga remains Arsenal's only other addition of the transfer window, but it's understood Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera and Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres are closing in on moves to the Emirates. The north Londoners are also working on a deal with Crystal Palace for Eberechi Eze after agreeing personal terms with the England international. According to Wirtz, he's a player who wants to 'win everything every year', so is he going to do that with the Reds? What do the football odds platforms have to say about that? Liverpool's Winning Ways Over the last few years, Liverpool have been one of the most impressive sides in the Premiership, with Jurgen Klopp leading them to multiple trophies, including a Premier League title in 2020 and a Champions League title in 2019. But with Liverpool currently on a role, there are some who believe a signing like this wasn't exactly needed, and, on the contrary, could disrupt what Liverpool are doing, rather than add to it. One of the reasons the Reds remain so successful is due to their team chemistry, which has been built up over the last few years. Of course, a signing was needed, but signing a superstar like Wirtz will have a huge impact on the team, compared to signing a less established player who could have had the space to integrate more gradually. Sometimes, being a winning club isn't just about signing the best, but signing the players who fit within the existing squad and style of play. Erik ten Hag has upset Granit Xhaka with his period of silence after being named the new Bayer Leverkusen boss which has caused the Arsenal star to question his future Erik ten Hag has already managed to annoy Granit Xhaka since being appointed as Bayer Leverkusen boss, according to reports in Germany. The Dutch coach returned to the dugout after several months out of the game following his Manchester United sacking. He's inherited a squad from Xabi Alonso that won the Bundesliga title this time last year with Xhaka a crucial cog in their midfield. The ex-Arsenal man has proved a huge hit in Germany but he and the new manager have not struck it off on the right note. Bild claim that Ten Hag made a deliberate effort to give his new Leverkusen players time and space before touching base for the first time. However this approach has not been universally well received with Xhaka among those to take issue with the new manager's idea. Ten Hag only made contact with the former Arsenal midfielder three weeks after his appointment. That lack of communication has seen the Swiss star question his future. Ten Hag has been keen to underlined how important he felt the 32-year-old would be to his plans moving forward, but the period of silence looks to have backfire on the new manager. Xhaka was an integral part of Alonso's remarkable Bundesliga-winning side that went unbeaten all year and claimed the German Cup. He has a contract at the BayArena until 2028 but AC Milan are circling. It's claimed a deal could be sealed if Milan make an offer in the region of £12.8million, despite Leverkusen initially holding out for a fee of £34m. The German side have already seen a host of their leading lights leave, putting Ten Hag on the back foot as he begins his tenure. Florian Wirtz has left for Liverpool in a British-record deal that has banked the club more than £100m. Jeremie Frimpong has also joined him in moving to Anfield whilst defensive star Jonathan Tah has moved to arch rivals Bayern Munich on a free when his contract expired. It does leave Leverkusen with money to spend however after finishing second in the Bundesliga. Ten Hag had been tipped to return to Ajax, only for him to reject the Eredivisie outfit in favour of a move to Leverkusen when they came calling. He signed a two-year contract and will look to prove himself once again after a poor end to his spell in charge in Manchester.
