Pro Wrestling Promotion Eyeing Caitlin Clark Teammate: ‘Fierce Competitor'
Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has caught the attention of some pro wrestling executives due to her fierce role as an enforcer for teammate Caitlin Clark. When the Fever signed Cunningham in the off-season, she made it quite clear that she was ready to support Clark and handle any intimidation or physical tactics opponents might dole out. 'Just the competitor that I am, I'm fierce, I'm sassy,' Cunningham said. 'I stick up for my teammates. I stick up for myself. Sometimes, I think that's okay to be feisty and be yourself.' She had a chance to prove herself in a game against the Connecticut Sun last month. Guard Jacy Sheldon poked Clark in the eye, and a dust-up ensued, followed by guard Marina Mabrey slamming the WNBA's top star to the floor. Cunningham did not waver on her promise to stick up for her teammate, delivering a hard foul to Sheldon in retaliation later in the quarter and getting herself ejected. Yeah, message sent. Sophie Cunningham – Basketball Player, Blonde Bombshell, and Now … Wrestler? Sophie Cunningham's physical style, highlighted by that flagrant foul that led to a brawl and ejections, apparently caught the eye of some professional wrestling executives. Women of Wrestling (WOW) co-owner Jeanie Buss (you may remember her as the President of the Los Angeles Lakers) praised Cunningham's talent and competitiveness, expressing interest in having her join the promotion. 'We would love to have [Sophie] join us at [WOW],' Buss wrote on X. 'She is talented, dedicated, and a fierce competitor!' She is all of those things. Buss has described the women of WOW as 'some of the strongest people I've ever met in my life,' and believes Cunningham would fit right in. David McLane, Buss's partner at WOW, concurs. 'I'm from Indiana. I'm from Indianapolis, and that's the home of not only the second-best basketball team in the country this last year, but the biggest name in professional basketball today, Caitlin Clark,' McClane told the Daily Mirror. 'And Caitlin Clark has an enforcer.' 'She's the Marty McSorley to Wayne Gretzky, and she is a stunning athlete,' he added. Not Just About Looks With apologies to McClane, I don't see McSorley when looking at that picture above. Which brings us to another point. Sophie Cunningham has other assets that would make her a good addition to WOW. McLane has an eye for these things. He is, after all, the creator of GLOW – Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. Cunningham certainly fits the bill. She has always been a spectacular presence on social media, wowing fans with her game-day and event outfits. Prior to signing with Indiana, Sophie was flat-out breaking necks with her look at last year's WNBA All-Star Weekend. And who could forget the time the bombshell 'entered the villa'? But as Buss points out to the Mirror, this wrestling promotion isn't just about eye candy. It's about athelticism. Entertainment. 'David first invited me to come see women of wrestling,' Buss explained. 'I came up with every excuse I could not to because I thought it was mud wrestling or oil wrestling, jello wrestling, that's what it used to be back in the 90s.' 'And I am so proud of how far it's come. And all those images are out of your mind. It's a real sport, and these are real athletes.' Sophie Cunningham would be a perfect fit. Popular streamer IShowSpeed met Riley Drexel in Europe. Drexel is the nephew of Jeanie Buss. He offered IShowSpeed a Lakers championship ring. IShowSpeed reacted with disbelief. Drexel mentioned the Lakers were sold for $10 billion. A major ownership change is happening within the Lakers organization. The Buss family is selling majority ownership to Mark Walter. Popular streamer IShowSpeed had a genuine moment during his recent European travels. In what seemed to be a chilling spot, the high-energy content creator met one of the members of the iconic Buss family. His reaction was unexpected and confused, especially as he received a prestigious gift offer, a Lakers championship ring. He just couldn't hide his shock as he reacted with disbelief on meeting Jeanie Buss's nephew, Riley Drexel. IShowSpeed gives a hilarious reaction to receiving the Lakers Ring offer An unexpected meeting occurred as IShowSpeed continued his European tour. He was introduced to Riley Drexel. Drexel is the grandson of late Lakers owner Jerry Buss and is nephew of current team Governor, Jeanie Buss. Jeanie holds a unique place within the Los Angeles Lakers franchise. Riley too has been a part of many team events, connecting his family's legacy with the franchise. As per reports, this interaction happened in Saint-Tropez. In the viral video, one can see how the interaction started with IShowSpeed meeting a stranger (a potential friend of Riley), who tried to tell him that the ring was a Lakers championship ring. While IShowSpeed still remained confused and asked, 'Is that real?', he was offered to hold the ring in his hand, with the man claiming, 'It's from the owners.' The stranger then pointed him towards Riley, saying he owned the Lakers. IShowSpeed's stunned reaction, which was captured on the video circulating around on social media, was immediate and unfiltered— 'You own the Lakers?.. Goddamn.' It perfectly encapsulated his disbelief at receiving the Lakers' championship ring from one of the basketball royalty. Riley, in the video, was seen clearly stating that they sold the Lakers for $10 billion. He then laughingly made a remarkable gesture towards IShowSpeed, offering him to keep an official Los Angeles Lakers ring. He then introduced himself as Riley Buss and shook hands with IShowSpeed. The offer's sheer magnitude, coming directly from one of the Buss family heirs, completely floored the usually energetic and over-the-top reactions of the offering streamer. Aside from having his wild Lakers legacy encounter, IShowSpeed has been making waves all across Europe. He's been visiting multiple countries with his high-energy antics, keeping fans entertained. With it all, he proves why he is one of the most viral personalities today. The Los Angeles Lakers had a recent historic shift IShowSpeed's personal encounter with one of the Buss family's legacies comes amidst a monumental change happening within the organization. As per reports, a seismic agreement has already been reached about the team's future ownership. Sources confirm that the Buss family will be selling the majority ownership of the franchise to Mark Walter, a businessman. The deal values the team at $10 billion, setting a new record for a professional sports team in the United States. Walter, who's already been a minority stakeholder since 2021, now leads a diversified holding company, carrying significant interests within sports globally. While the Buss family has retained a minority stake for a period, the controlling interests are now shifting. Crucially, Jeanie Buss will continue to be the Los Angeles Lakers' Governor. She will continue overseeing team operations for a foreseeable future. The deal guarantees stability while continuing to honor the decades-long impact of the Buss family on the team. ESPN: LeBron James was actually notified of sale of majority stake of Lakers
A few weeks ago, the Buss family, which has owned the Los Angeles Lakers since 1979, agreed to sell a majority share of the franchise to Mark Walter. Walter has been a minority owner of the Lakers since 2021, and he has been the primary owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, a team that has won two of the last five World Series championships, since 2012. An ESPN report a few days ago by Ramona Shelburne and Brian Windhorst indicated that while Luka Doncic was given a heads-up about the sale, LeBron James wasn't. However, the report was updated to show that James was indeed given a heads-up of his own about the sale agreement. "When the Buss family agreed to sell a majority stake in the franchise to Mark Walter on June 18, Doncic was given a heads-up and notably posted a congratulations on social media afterward," Shelburne and Windhorst wrote. "After the publication of this article, sources said James was notified of the sale, via his representation. But he did not post any public acknowledgement." The previous claim that James wasn't notified of the sale was cited as part of a series of "microaggressions" that signaled the Lakers are now catering to Doncic and not James. James had until June 29 to decide whether to exercise the player option on his contract for this coming season, and the team reportedly didn't offer him an extension past the 2025-26 campaign. Those signals, combined with the cryptic statement that James' agent Rich Paul gave on June 29, have led plenty of people to feel that James could soon ask to be traded. But Paul told Chris Haynes that neither he nor James has had any trade discussions with the organization, although a few teams did reportedly consider making a trade offer for the 40-year-old.

Uncertainty looms over Jeanie Buss's stint with the Los Angeles Lakers for next five years after sale
Jeanie Bus, Image via Getty Despite LeBron James diverting all the attention due to his potential trade rumors, the Los Angeles Lakers have been making headlines with respect to their sale. Reportedly, Mark Walter would be the new majority owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, but he would not be taking over as the team's governor. This particular update also puts a question on Lakers' president Jeanie Buss's association with the NBA team after the sale. Will Jeanie Buss continue her stint as a governor with the Los Angeles Lakers after sale? With the Buss and Walter families looking forward to locking one of the biggest deals in the history of the NBA, the buzz around the Los Angeles Lakers can be very well understood. The Lakers sale has been valued at a whopping amount of $10 billion. Reportedly, the deal has been labeled as a brand-new start for the Los Angeles Lakers almost after a period of four decades under the supervision of the Buss family. However, Mark Walter, the owner of the popular MLB team Los Angeles Dodgers, is in the scene. It has been confirmed that Jeanie Buss will still hold the position of governor for the Lakers even after the sale. As reported by reputed media outlet The Athletics' Sam Amick, the Buss family deal with Mark Walter clearly states that Jeanie Buss would continue be the governor of Los Angeles Lakers for the next five years in his recent report, which mentioned, 'Two sources familiar with the matter tell Front Office Sports the agreement—which carries a jaw-dropping $10 billion valuation—will allow Buss to remain as team governor for 'at least' five years. Sam Amick of The Athletic also reported that earlier Wednesday. Another source familiar with the matter, however, tells FOS that Buss will only be able to stay on for 'at most' five years.' With multiple reports coming in by famous media outlets regarding Jeanie Buss and Los Angeles Lakers has left then fans confused. No update has been provided by the Buss or Walter family of NBA team Los Angeles Lakers. How much longer will Jeanie Buss remain the Lakers' governor?
Changes are coming to the Los Angeles Lakers from the top down. A few weeks ago, the Buss family agreed to sell a majority share of the franchise to Mark Walter, the CEO of Guggenheim Partners and the primary owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the sale is expected to be finalized later this year. The Buss family has owned the Lakers since 1979, when Dr. Jerry Buss purchased them from previous owner Jack Kent Cooke. Dr. Buss owned the team until his death in 2013, and his daughter, Jeanie, has been in charge ever since. The younger Buss has held the title of governor, and she has been criticized by plenty of fans, as her track record in that role hasn't exactly been as sterling as that of her father. The team won 10 NBA championships under the ownership of the elder Buss, but since his passing, it has missed the playoffs seven times and reached the Western Conference finals just twice. According to Dan Woike of The Athletic, the younger Buss will hold on to her title of governor for at least five more years. "Per a team source, Buss' agreement with Walter and the NBA stipulates that she'll remain the team's governor for at least the next five seasons," Woike wrote. The biggest change that is expected to come is the sparing of no expense when it comes to bringing in the best people for the Lakers organization, as much as league rules will allow. The league's new suffocating collective bargaining agreement is something that billions of dollars in the bank cannot overcome, but that type of capital can be used on coaches, medical and training personnel, analytics experts and so on. While in charge of the Dodgers, Walter has spent tons of money in order to win. The team, which had been dormant for a long time when he became its primary owner in 2012, has now won the National League West in 11 of the past 12 seasons and brought home two World Series championships in the previous five seasons. Walter has been a minority owner of the Lakers since 2021.
