Report reveals C.J. Mosley wanted one last run with the Ravens before retiring

Report reveals C.J. Mosley wanted one last run with the Ravens before retiring C.J. Mosley tried to come home to the Ravens before retiring. Sometimes, we forget that these are people we are talking about. In today's age, we've analyzed many of their games since they were playing in high school. They aren't just the Baltimore Ravens. They're gladiators. They're superheroes in pads and helmets, but at the same time, they are also people. The same guys we reduce to Madden ratings and Fantasy football points have families. They have mothers and children. They have feelings. Sure, sometimes we look at them and all we think about is their cap number, but that isn't fair. The Ravens have long been a group of characters who have character. Look at them. This organization reinvented the term 'swagger', but every once in a while, they bond with us, both fans and the media. Enter C.J. Mosley. C.J. Mosley attempted a Ravens reunion pre-retirement announcement It's been a while. The Baltimore Ravens selected C.J. Mosley 17th overall during Round 1 of the 2014 NFL Draft. Four of his first five NFL seasons ended in nominations to the Pro Bowl Roster. He earned four Second-Team All-Pro mentions as well, but in 2020, he left the nest and joined the New York Jets after signing a five-year deal that would pay him $85 million. He earned another Pro Bowl nod and Second-Team All-Pro mention during the 2022 Jets season. Things were never the same for Mosley in New York as they were for him in Baltimore. He missed all but two games in 2019. He opted out of the 2020 NFL season due to COVID-19. Toe and neck injuries forced him to miss all but four games during the most recent Jets campaign. He was released on March 12 and retired on his birthday, but it appears he attempted one last ride with Baltimore before he did so. WJZ's Rick Ritter reports that C.J. hoped for a reunion in Baltimore for one last run at a title. There was reportedly interest on both sides, but he couldn't get cleared medically because of the damage done by previous injuries. I'm told C.J. Mosley was hoping for a reunion in Baltimore to chase a championship. There was mutual interest there but unfortunately, he couldn't get cleared with his neck injury @wjz @WJZ13sports @CBSSports — Rick Ritter (@RickRitterWJZ) June 19, 2025 Yeah... We always knew he missed The Flock, right? It's understandable. The Ravens family also missed him, and everyone understood he had to leave to ensure the long-term financial future of his family. That being said, though the journey may have ended, we're left with the joy of memories he helped create, memories like the following: An iconic moment in Ravens history. Congratulations on your career and retirement, C.J. — Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) June 19, 2025 The caption reads as it should. "An iconic moment in Ravens history... Congratulations on your career and retirement, C.J." Everyone can agree with that... Enjoy the rest, Mr. Mosley. You have certainly earned it. Kick those feet up. The young guys will take it from here.

Alabama football legend, 5-time Pro Bowl linebacker retiring from NFL after 11 years

Alabama football legend, 5-time Pro Bowl linebacker retiring from NFL after 11 years C.J. Mosley was a special player from the moment he first stepped onto the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium for Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide in September 2010. A 4-star recruit from Theodore High School who was named a Parade All-American, Mosley's four-year playing career in Tuscaloosa from 2010-13 would include such accolades as being a two-time All-American, the 2013 Butkus Award winner, and a member of two national championship teams. Mosley was a first-round pick (No. 17 overall) by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2014 NFL Draft. On Thursday, the day of his 33rd birthday, Mosley announced his retirement from the NFL after 11 seasons -- the last six of which were spent with the New York Jets. Mosley said in a post to Instagram: "Once upon a time, a kid from Mobile, Alabama, had a dream to do great things on the football field. I followed you my whole life not knowing where you would take me. To envision myself as a Ray Lewis or a Brian Urlacher was just the first steps of this 11-year journey. You opened doors that I once only dreamed of. You gave me passion. You gave me strength, self-endurance, pain and, most importantly, being able to trust and lead men. Today, it is time to wake up from my childhood dream and share with the next generation. I spent my whole life and career building my legacy. Now it's time to start a new chapter with new dreams. It won't be easy. I'm here to tell you, every sacrifice is worth it. When you wake up, what will your legacy look like?" Injuries limited to Mosley to four games in 2024. Before that, he was a Pro Bowl selection in his rookie season with the Ravens in 2014, which also included runner-up AP Defensive Rookie of the Year honors behind Aaron Donald of the Rams. Mosley garnered three straight Pro Bowl selections from 2016-18 and was a Pro Bowl selection again in 2022. For his 10-year NFL playing career, Mosley will finish with 1,083 tackles, 55 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, 40 quarterback hits, 10 forced fumbles and 53 pass breakups in 133 games. C.J. Mosley's Alabama career stats, highlights In his four seasons at Alabama, Mosley played in 51 games for the Crimson Tide and had 317 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, five interceptions and 17 pass breakups from 2010-13. Mosley had a 16-yard pick-six touchdown against Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson in Alabama's 41-14 win in the 2012 season opener in Arlington, Texas. In his 2010 freshman season, Mosley had a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown against Florida quarterback John Brantley's in the Crimson Tide's 31-6 win over the Gators at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Mosley was named the 2013 SEC Defensive Player of the Year, the same season he won the Butkus Award as the nation's top linebacker. Five-time Pro Bowl linebacker C.J. Mosley retires from NFL

C.J. Mosley (via Getty Images) Baltimore Ravens franchise player and New York Jets defensive captain C.J. Mosley has retired from professional football after a dominant decade-long career. A native of the Alabama Crimson Tide, C.J. Mosley was always thought to be the successor to Ray Lewis' throne in Baltimore—one that he took with steely resolve. C.J. Mosley retires with 1,000+ tackles and a dominant leadership presence C.J. Mosley started his NFL career as a first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2014. In five seasons, he became a four-time Pro Bowler, accumulated 579 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and nine interceptions. His selection of Baker Mayfield to seal the game in the final game of the 2018 regular season is among the most defining plays in recent Ravens history. Before the Ravens could hold him, the New York Jets signed him over the cap with a gigantic five-year, $85 million contract in 2019 to sign C.J. Mosley to the AFC East as the league's top-paid inside linebacker at the time. But his New York introduction was marred by injury. After a strong start with a pick-six, C.J. Mosley hurt his core muscle and played just two games of the 2019 season. He lost the 2020 season to the COVID-19 virus but returned with a vengeance with head coach Robert Saleh, and he was the foundation of the Jets' defense from 2021 to 2023. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Between 2021 and 2023, Mosley accumulated 478 tackles and received his fifth and final Pro Bowl in 2022. Mosley will retire from the NFL, the five-time Pro Bowl selection announced Thursday on social media. Mosley, 33, entered the league as the No. 17 overall pick by the Ravens in the 2014 NFL Draft. He signed a five-year, $85 million deal with the Jets in 2019. "Once upon a time, a kid from Mobile, Ala., had a dream to do great things on the football field," Mosley said in a video posted to his Instagram and X accounts. "I followed you my whole life not knowing where you would take me. "To envision myself as a Ray Lewis or a Brian Urlacher was was just the first step of this 11-year journey. You opened doors that I once only dreamed of. You gave me passion. You gave me strength, self endurance, pain and most importantly, the DNA to trust and lead men. "Today, it is time to wake up from my childhood dream and share with the next generation." Mosley, who sat out in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, totaled 1,083 combined tackles, including 687 solo takedowns over 133 career appearances. He logged 55 tackles for a loss, 53 passes defensed, 12 interceptions, 12 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries and three touchdowns over his decorated NFL tenure. The 6-foot-2, 231-pound defender totaled a career-high 168 combined tackles and 103 solo tackles in 2021 for the Jets. Mosley totaled 17 combined tackles over four appearances in 2024, when he missed 13 games because of toe and neck injuries and lost his starting job to Jamien Sherwood. Mosley received Pro Football Focus' third-best defensive rating among linebackers who were in for at least 80% of 1,170 snaps -- the most by any linebacker -- in 2023. He received the top coverage rating at the position that season. He received the 15th-best defensive rating in 2022, when he earned second-team All-Pro honors for the fifth time of his career. Mosley was the fifth-rated linebacker in 2017 and rated seventh as a rookie. "I spent my whole life and career building my legacy," said Mosley, a former All-American who won SEC Defensive Player of the Year, the Butkus Award and two national titles while at Alabama before entering the NFL. "Now it's time to start a new chapter with new dreams. It wont be easy. I'm here to tell you every sacrifice is worth it. When you wake up, what will your legacy look like?"
