Brandy And Monica Drop Epic Visuals To Announce Joint Tour
Source: Fred Lee / Getty R&B stars Brandy and Monica have been linked together since 1998, when they dropped their classic Grammy award-winning hit, 'The Boy Is Mine.' They entertained us all during the COVID-19 pandemic in their head-to-head Verzuz battle — and now they are gearing up for their first joint tour. In an exclusive interview with CBS Mornings on Tuesday, June 24, Brandy and Monica shared that when they decided to give fans the joint tour they have been consistently asking for, they had to sit down and discuss their relationship, which has been filled with reports of feuds and tensions for decades. 'They've been trying to get us to do a tour since '98. It just finally felt like the right time,' Brandy said. Monica then chimed in and added that the decision to tour together 'created the communication and the relationship to do it.' 'It's a musical marriage. When you start to go on a tour, especially of this caliber, we have to talk about everything,' she continued. When asked directly by Gayle King if there was ever an actual feud between them earlier in their careers, the two stars got candid. 'It started as nothing and it really did turn into something,' Monica confirmed. 'The reason I was so insistent that we communicate directly is that you take all of the peanut gallery out of the conversation.' 'If there's something to discuss, we discuss it among each other… and that just eliminates any confusion,' she said. 'There was a lot of confusion and conflict and there was a lot of people around during those early days.' Brandy added, 'The song didn't help either. We were fighting over a boy.' Monica noted how their ages at the time of their duet also played into the messiness and outside forces pitting them against each other. 'I was 18, she was 17 when we did the record,' she said. 'People forget that you're having this conversation about children, basically. You're inciting a riot amongst children! We were teenagers… We didn't really know each other.' The Boy Is Mine 24-city arena tour officially kicks off on Oct. 16 in Cincinnati, Ohio, and ends on Dec. 7 in Houston, Texas. Tickets for the tour go on sale on Friday, June 27 at 10 a.m. EST via Ticketmaster. Joining Brandy and Monica on tour will be Kelly Rowland, Muni Long and American Idol winner Jamal Roberts. The Story Behind How Julia Louis-Dreyfus Initiated A Key Change To How Seinfeld Writers Came Up With Elaine Stories
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Elaine Benes on Seinfeld is a special character in part because she doesn't specifically stand out as special on the show. Of the sitcom's four protagonists, she is the only woman, but she is just as selfish, mean, depraved, egotistical and funny as the men. It's an important part of the show's legacy – but it wasn't always the case, and there is a story behind how things changed behind the scenes. Writer Larry Charles, who was a writer on the first five seasons of Seinfeld, has a new memoir titled Comedy Samurai: Forty Years of Blood, Guts, and Laughter, and during a recent promotional interview with CBS Mornings (via Instagram), he told the story of how the sitcom's writer's room changed their approach to stories for Elaine. It started when Julia Louis-Dreyfus stood up for herself and made it known that she wasn't happy with the material she was being given: Julia came into the office one day crying because we were not writing for her; we weren't really giving her great stuff. And it's like, 'Well, how do you fix that?' And Larry had the idea: 'Let's take this George story and just give it to Elaine and see what happens.' And that exploded Elaine, because we'd never written women before, honestly. And so now, we had a way to write a woman that was kind of like the guys. She was as dark, as untrustworthy, as vain as the guys were, and that made her fun – fun to write for and expanded her character. More Seinfeld! 'Isn't That Crazy?': Julia Louis-Dreyfus Shares Wild Story About Being Recognized By Seinfeld Fan While Giving Birth--Seinfeld Cast: What The Stars Of The Classic Sitcom Are Up To Now This issue probably could have also been addressed by having more women writing the show... but I suppose it was a different era. Larry Charles didn't specifically cite when this big change was made behind the scenes – but it is noteworthy that the show ended up addressing this issue in brilliantly meta fashion during Season 4. In the episode "The Shoes," Jerry and George are working on their pilot script for the show they are developing at NBC, and while they have told Elaine that she is going to be one of the characters, they abandon the idea when they realize that they don't know how to write for a woman. This changes when Elaine first complains and then even pitches a joke for herself. Elaine being "one of the guys" was not a prominent thing on television during the late 20th century, as most shows kept women characters in gender-specific stories. But Seinfeld is a show that is recognized as revolutionary for many reasons, and the hilarious Elaine Benes is a significant part of the tale. Charles continued, That was very unprecedented on television at that time. Most characters have honor, they have morals, they learn a lesson at the end. But the main slogan on Seinfeld was 'No hugging, no learning,' and Julia was part of that ultimately, and she embraced it. Unquestionably one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, Seinfeld shines thanks to the genderless madness of Elaine Benes. Should you care to enjoy her many, many ridiculous antics alongside her friends Jerry, George and Kramer, the show is available to stream instantly to Netflix subscribers, and physical media collectors would be wise to pick up the show's 4K UHD box set.

Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sanchez wedding guest list: Who's attending?
Bezos and Sanchez, who went public with their relationship in 2019 and got engaged in 2023, are set to tie the knot in Venice, Italy, the city previously confirmed. The wedding comes about six years after the Amazon founder began dating Sanchez following his split from ex-wife and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. Bezos and Sanchez have been rather tight-lipped about their upcoming nuptials, and the exact date of their wedding has not been revealed. Reuters previously reported that the three-day wedding is likely to occur between June 26 and 28. But one thing, though, is for sure: The socialites' fete is likely to be star-studded as they both boast dozens of A-list friends. Possible attendees include husband and wife duo actor Orlando Bloom and singer Katy Perry; media personalities Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner and Khloe Kardashian, TV icon Oprah Winfrey and "CBS Mornings" co-anchor Gayle King; and actress Eva Longoria. Sanchez's ex and NFL legend Tony Gonzalez -- considered one of the greatest tight ends in history -- and his wife October "Tobie" Gonzalez, friends of "The Fly Who Flew To Space" author, are also expected to attend. The singers, who collaborated on the 1998 hit song "The Boy is Mine," released a Boy is Mine Tour teaser video Tuesday. The trailer shows an apparent jail warden walking a new hire to her office, where she is told not to let Brandy and Monica hear one another. "This is a maximum sound asylum. We keep sounds from getting out," he explains. "These two could destroy the world as we know it if they hear each other. All I care about is that you keep that from happening." "It just finally felt like the right time," Brandy said in an interview on CBS Mornings. "And I'm just so honored to be here." "The Boy is Mine" appeared on Brandy's 1998 album Never Say Never and Monica's album The Boy is Mine, released that same year.
