Inter-state kidney racket kingpin Pavan, broker arrested by CID
Hyderabad: Crime Investigation Department (CID), Telangana, sleuths have arrested the alleged kingpin and a broker in the inter-state kidney trafficking racket busted at Alakananda Multi-Specialty Hospital in Kothapet in Jan this year. Apart from the kingpin, Pamulapati Pavan Kumar alias Leon of Andhra Pradesh, who had previously sold a kidney before becoming a racketeer, CID investigators also nabbed broker Pradeep Kumar Gupta alias Pradeep Agarwal of Gurgaon. The simultaneous arrests by CID special teams in Hyderabad and Chandigarh increased the total number of detainees in the case to 19. CID said it would file a petition in court on Thursday to seek custody of both Pavan and Pradeep to obtain further information about the inter-state kidney trafficking operation. The criminal case was initially registered at Saroornagar police station on January 21, 2025 following a complaint from the Deputy DM&HO and was transferred to CID on April 24 for a more comprehensive probe. Investigators described Pavan Kumar, 33, as the main conspirator of a network that matched wealthy recipients across India with impoverished donors from Tamil Nadu. In collaboration with already arrested surgeons Dr Rajashekar, Dr Avinash and others, Pavan organised illegal transplants not only at Alakananda, but also at Janani and Aruna Hospitals in the city. CID sources reported that the accused had established a chain of agents, who scoured slums and villages for financially desperate individuals willing to sell a kidney for Rs 3-5 lakh. 'Recipients were charged Rs 50 lakh or more. Pavan Kumar pocketed Rs 10-15 lakh per surgery, funding his fancy for luxury cars and casino trips to Sri Lanka,' a CID official said. According to CID, Gupta, the second individual arrested on Tuesday, was responsible for sourcing clients from Delhi, Gujarat and Maharashtra for Pavan Kumar. 'Gupta was paid Rs 10 lakh commission for each kidney transplantation and he had arranged kidneys for around 10 patients from different states. Efforts are on to apprehend other absconding accused in the case,' Telangana CID chief Charu Sinha said. The accused were charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in addition to multiple provisions of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994.

MLA reviews engineering works
Guntur: Guntur East MLA Md Naseer Ahmed directed the officials to maintain quality in executing the engineering works and complete the works within the stipulated time. He emphasised the need for engineering officials to ensure that all ongoing development works in the city are completed with high quality and speed. He conducted a review meeting with municipal engineering officials at his local constituency office on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, he instructed the officials to monitor construction works continuously in the backdrop of the rainy season. He inquired about the current status of each project, how much work is pending, the percentage of completion, and the estimated time required for full completion. MLA Naseer Ahmed stated that soon after the coalition government, led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, came to power, several large-scale projects were initiated in Guntur. He said these projects would greatly benefit the people of the city and urged the engineering staff involved to carry out their responsibilities with utmost accountability. Earlier, he distributed Rs 71 lakh financial assistance from CMRF to fifty beneficiaries. Speaking on this occasion, he said the coalition government is liberally extending financial assistance to the needy.

95% of public satisfied with one year NDA governance: Union MoS Pemmasani

CMRF cheques worth Rs 42 lakh distributed

Yasaswini distributes CMRF cheques
Hanumakonda: Palakurthi MLA M Yasaswini Reddy on Thursday distributed Chief Minister Relief Fund (CMRF) cheques worth Rs 52,35,700 to 158 beneficiaries at her camp office. She handed over financial assistance sanctioned through the CMRF. The MLA stated that although the government is facing financial challenges, it has not stepped back when it comes to welfare of the poor.
