India's growing economic leverage on global stage: RSS' Sunil Ambekar
New Delhi [India], June 30 (ANI): The Center of Policy Research and Governance (CPRG) hosted the second session of its Trade Roundtable Series at the India International Centre in Delhi on Monday. The session convened senior industry leaders, policymakers, academicians, trade negotiators, and public policy experts to deliberate on the theme 'US Tariff Policy and Trade Reform: Impact on the Indian Economy.' Speaking on this occasion Sunil Ambekar, All India Incharge of Media and Publicity division of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) highlighted India's growing economic leverage on the global stage, asserting the need to engage with the world 'from a position of strength rather than dependence.' The discussions examined the implications of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), standards compliance, and strategic trade positioning across key sectors such as pharmaceuticals, agriculture, defence, and intellectual property. Opening the session, Dr Ramanand, Director, CPRG, called attention to the need for sustained,stakeholder-led discourse to shape India's long-term trade strategy. 'In a rapidly changing geopolitical context, these dialogues help forge clarity around national priorities and industrial resilience,' he stated.A key point of discussion centered on standards and compliance. Prof. Rakesh Mohan Joshi, Vice Chancellor, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi, observed that 'despite many Indian facilities having international approvals like those of the FDA,' differences in standards, limited mutual recognition agreements, and high compliance costs continue to hamper India's export potential. Dr Omkar Rai, Ex-Executive Chairman Startup Odisha, Government of Odisha, stressed the need to boost India's innovation ecosystem, particularly in electronics and digital sectors. He noted that fragmented value chains and dependence on foreign standards undermine competitiveness, calling for stronger domestic certification frameworks. Panelists also discussed the importance of strengthening India's manufacturing base beyond startups, the need for better data and anticipatory scenario planning in trade negotiations, and the challenges of building competitiveness in global value chains. Several participants emphasised focusing on skill development, consistent quality standards, and improving domestic productivity as crucial steps for India's long-term trade strategy Building on the momentum of the Mumbai roundtable, the session focused on India's evolving trade landscape amidst shifting global tariff regimes, with particular emphasis on the electronics and startup ecosystems. CPRG's Trade Roundtable Series will continue with further sector-specific dialogues aimed at building consensus among industry stakeholders and informing India's broader trade vision amid an increasingly volatile geopolitical and economic landscape. Hosted at the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the roundtable brought together representatives from financial institutions, manufacturing firms, policymakers, and regulatory bodies. Discussions highlighted how India must adopt a proactive and strategic approach to protect its economic interests amid shifting global trade dynamics. Ashish Chauhan, managing director and CEO of NSE, underlined the potential of India's services sector. 'Our strategy need not be reactionary. While we may work on improving goods exports with finance, technology upgradation, incentives, policies and trade deals, our services and experience-driven sectors have boundless potential,' he said. Senior RSS functionary, Sunil Ambekar, noted the importance of recalibrating India's trade position. 'India has always welcomed international trade, but it's now vital to assert our interests with clarity and strength,' he said. 'This is the right time to strategically renegotiate our trade positions in line with national priorities.' Participants also discussed trade-related priorities such as enhancing the competitiveness of GIFT City, integrating the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) into international trade finance, and aligning trade benefits across multinational corporations and MSMEs. 'Continuous dialogue between economists, industry, and institutions is essential to navigate the complexities of the global trade landscape. The CPRG Trade Roundtable Series will continue with sector-focused discussions. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurates Krishi Bhawan in Sambalpur
Sambalpur (Odisha) [India], June 1 (ANI): Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday inaugurated the newly constructed Krishi Bhawan in Sambalpur on the occasion of Sitalsasthi, a major cultural festival in western Odisha. Speaking to mediapersons here, Pradhan said, 'I thank the double-engine government in Odisha for undertaking many works for the benefit of the farmers in the last year... On top of the MSP increased by the central government on Kharif crops, Odisha also gives Rs 800 per quintal from its budget... No one has given so much subsidy, so much help to farmers after independence...' Meanwhile, addressing the 'prhAI: Conclave on AI in Education', organised by the Centre of Policy Research and Governance (CPRG), Chief Minister Pradhan said that AI was both inevitable and essential. 'Just like the internet, AI has become a basic necessity,' Pradhan said. Speaking at the Conclave, Pradhan shared his thoughts on AI's transformative potential in reshaping the Indian education system. Pradhan said that there are hardly any higher education institutions in India where AI is not discussed. He described AI as both inevitable and essential: 'Just like the internet, AI has become a basic necessity.' The Union Minister added that increasing access to technology has created a highway of empowerment in students' lives. He expressed optimism that India could effectively leverage AI, and said, 'India's human intelligence has the power to transform any emerging technology into an indigenous innovation.' Pradhan shared the policy action required to prepare for the technological change, outlining efforts to build mass-scale AI literacy and support innovation in AI. Pradhan commended the Centre of Policy Research and Governance (CPRG) for hosting this timely and much-needed policy dialogue. CPRG is a policy research think tank that aims to promote responsive and participatory policy-making. As an Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR)-recognised institution, it has established itself as a leading voice in technology policy through its 'Future of Society' initiative. (ANI)
