American tourist confirmed dead after Turks and Caicos vacation disappearance

A body found in Turks and Caicos over a week ago has been identified as a missing American man who vanished while vacationing in the tropical paradise. Brian Tarrence, 51, of Monroe, New York, went missing on June 25 during a vacation with his wife on the Turks and Caicos Island, according to the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force. Tarrence was last seen leaving his condo around 3:30 a.m. at the Paradise Inn in Grace Bay, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos. In a press release, the island's police force confirmed Tarrence's identity following the conclusion of a forensic dental analysis. No signs of trauma were discovered during the autopsy, and police do not suspect foul play, according to authorities. Tarrance's cause of death has not yet been determined, with police still awaiting the results of the final autopsy and toxicology reports. An earlier press release revealed Tarrence's body was found in some bushes along Miracle Close in Grace Bay. Carl DeFazio, the Tarrence family's private investigator, previously told Fox News Digital that the condo is located in a safe area. "They seemed to be having a normal couple days, and he ended up walking out of his condo, which is in a very safe place and in the middle of Grace Bay Road," DeFazio said. "And we have him on camera, and he walks into town, and then he basically disappears, and we haven't heard from him since." DeFazio added that Tarrence's belongings remained at the condo and his wife didn't realize he was missing until the following morning. The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force said Tarrence's body was found shortly after 9 a.m. on July 5. "The RT&CIPF extends our condolences to Mr. Tarrence's family and friends during this difficult time. We thank the public for their patience and support as we continue the investigation," Royal Turks and Caicos police said in a statement late Wednesday. The Tarrence's were set to return from their vacation on June 29. Anyone with information relating to Tarrence's case is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

American Brian Tarrence still presumed missing in Turks and Caicos 9 days after body found

Brian Tarrence, an American who disappeared while vacationing in Turks and Caicos, is still presumed missing nine days after a body was found on the island. Search crews set out for the missing New Yorker on July 5 after he left his Caribbean vacation rental on June 26 and did not return. Days later, police said they found "the body of a deceased male in a decomposed state," which has not been unidentified. Limited police resources The U.S. State Department issued a warning that Turks and Caicos police may have limited investigatory resources, which may be delaying answers to Tarrence's case. "Nothing. There's absolutely no update. Not even an update on how far they are in the process of identifying and updating the public and the media and the family," said Wilkie Arthur, a reporter with Eagle Legal News who is following the case on the island. CBS News New York called and emailed Turks and Caicos police on Monday for an update on the case. They said no update was available. "We don't have a proper forensic lab here. We don't have no pathologists here," Arthur said. "We have to import everything and everyone. Everyone has to be brought in." Nearly three weeks without answers Carl DeFazio, a retired New York City Police Department member who was brought on as a private investigator in the Tarrance case, said no evidence so far indicates a crime occurred. "If he was robbed, by now I think I would have seen a credit card charge, or found his wallet, or found him, you know," he previously told CBS News New York. Tarrance was vacationing with his wife Maria. The couple lived in Orange County, New York, for several years before moving to a building in Midtown Manhattan in 2024. Wednesday will mark three weeks since his disappearance. Turks and Caicos

Caribbean police work to ID body found during search for missing American as nearby security guard was killed

A security guard was killed about 9 miles from where an American went missing in the Turks and Caicos Islands in late June, according to police. Brian Tarrence, 51, of Monroe, New York, went missing on June 25 while vacationing with his wife on the Turks and Caicos Island, according to the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force. On the same day, police said a security guard was killed at a supermarket in the Blue Hills area of the Turks and Caicos Islands, roughly 9 miles from where Tarrence went missing. Police haven't established a connection between the two incidents. Grantley Williams, acting superintendent of police for the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, said in a Facebook video that Tarrence was last seen leaving the Paradise Inn, where the couple was staying in the Grace Bay Area of the island. The Tarrence family's private investigator, Carl DeFazio, previously told Fox News Digital that Brian was seen on security camera leaving their condo before disappearing. Earlier that day, the couple went on a boat trip. "They seemed to be having a normal couple days, and he ended up walking out of his condo, which is in a very safe place and in the middle of Grace Bay Road," DeFazio said. "And we have him on camera, and he walks into town, and then he basically disappears, and we haven't heard from him since." DeFazio said Tarrence's belongings were left behind at the condo, adding that he was wearing a T-shirt, shorts and sneakers. Tarrence's wife didn't realize he was missing until the following morning, DeFazio said. The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force said a body was found shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday in Grace Bay, but police haven't made an identification. A spokesperson for the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force told Fox News Digital that autopsy results are still pending. "The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased," Acting Commissioner of Police Rodney Adams said while commenting on the discovery of the body. "We urge family members of the public to refrain from speculation and allow the investigative process to confirm the identity through official channels." Tarrence and his wife left for the vacation on June 22 and were set to return on June 29. Anyone with information relating to Tarrence's disappearance is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Body found amid search for American tourist who vanished while on romantic getaway with his wife

Police officials have discovered a body nearly an hour's walk away from a hotel on the Turks and Caicos Islands where American tourist Brian Tarrence vanished on June 25. Investigators discovered a 'deceased male in a state of decomposition' early Saturday morning, a Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force statement read. His identity has not been released. 'The RTCIPF will provide further updates as soon as the identification process is completed and the next of kin is informed.' Private investigator Carl DeFazio, whom Tarrence's family hired, told People magazine the body was found in a 'little residential-commercial area." DeFazio warned it was too early to speculate the body was Tarrence's, who was last seen leaving a rented apartment at the Paradise Inn in Grace Bay just before 3:40 a.m. Tarrence and his wife arrived on the island on June 21 for what they had intended to be a romantic getaway to celebrate their anniversary. His brother, Mike Tarrence, told The Turks and Caicos Sun that he last heard from his brother via text the day before they traveled. 'They were there to celebrate their one-year anniversary. He just said they were going on vacation. No details were provided to me. This is very personal, but come to find out through all of this, it was discovered he is a very bad alcoholic. We were also told that with either the drinking, lack of sleep, or both, he was experiencing hallucinations,: Mike Tarrence said. 'He has never done anything even remotely close to this. He is a very smart individual,' he added. The message was short and simply said that Tarrence and his wife were heading off on holiday to celebrate their one-year anniversary with no further details. Meanwhile, DeFazio told People, 'You can't just look at, say, a watch, sneakers, and a pair of shorts. Anybody could be wearing that. What if we say, 'Yeah, that's his watch, that's his shorts,' and then find out somebody else had them? And if that were the truth, then this investigation takes a turn tremendously right there.' Acting Police Commissioner Rodney Adams said, 'The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. 'We urge members of the public to refrain from speculation and allow the investigative process to confirm the identity through official channels.' Police appealed to anyone with information to contact 911 or the nearest police station or reach out anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 (TIPS) or by using the P3 mobile app.

Body found amid search for missing American Brian Tarrence in Turks and Caicos

Investigators have made a grim discovery during the search for Brian Tarrence, a New Yorker who disappeared in Turks and Caicos. Tarrence was on vacation with his wife and was last seen on surveillance video walking away from his hotel early in the morning of June 25. Police have been searching for him ever since, and a private investigator was brought on to assist. Saturday morning, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force again organized a search for Tarrence. A few hours into the search in an area of Grace Bay, they said they found "the body of a deceased male in a decomposed state." They have not yet established, however, if the body is Tarrence's. "We the police extend condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and ask that the public not speculate and await positive identification of the deceased," acting Commissioner Rodney Adams said in a statement. So far, there's nothing to indicate any criminality Carl DeFazio, formerly of the NYPD, was brought on as the private investigator in the case. "If he was robbed, by now I think I would have seen a credit card charge, or found his wallet, or found him, you know," DeFazio told CBS News New York's Tony Aiello earlier this week. DeFazio said there was nothing thus far to point to any criminality in the case.
