Panathinaikos man reveals chat with Celtic star about Rangers UCL tie
Ahead of the match, Palmer-Brown has spoken to Carter-Vickers, whom he is familiar with from the United States Men's National Team set-up. He said: "From Cam, all I really got was they [Rangers] brought in some new signings. He was like 'Eight or nine new players, so I'm not really sure'. Read more: "But he was telling me about their right-back and all the players that he did know, and he was like 'They're a good team, and they're willing to push forward to get the win'. "Cam's been my friend for a long time, so it kind of cut off quickly about the football conversation and went into life because I've just had a kid and everything. "It was a good conversation, and with his career, and him playing in Scotland, I know [Auston] Trusty is there now, and what they did last season. So, congratulations to him. "But he's [Carter-Vickers] the man, and I mean, I always saw that coming for him to play at a high level. I know he loves Scotland, he talks so much about it. It was a really good conversation in that aspect." Rangers take on Panathinaikos in the second leg of their second-round Champions League qualifier tomorrow evening. Kick-off is at 7pm UK time.

'I've not been fully fit since I was 14' - Carter Vickers ready to be Celtic warrior again as he details summer surgery
The key Hoops stopper was a late arrival to the pre-season party after going under the knife to sort out a knee issue It's been no pain, no gain for Cameron Carter-Vickers for as long as he can remember. But the Celtic warrior is ready to grin and bear it again this season as the Hoops set their sights on Five-in-a-Row. Carter-Vickers was a late arrival to the pre-season party after going under the knife to sort out a knee issue but returned in Thursday's 5-1 friendly defeat to Ajax and got another run-out against Saudi side Al-Ahli last night. The surgery has done the job and the centre back is determined to get back to work. The US star has had his injury struggles over the years but is used to playing through the pain barrier. In fact, he reckons he hasn't been free of any aches since he was a teenager but it won't hold him back. Humble hero Carter-Vickers said: 'It was nice to be back out there and get 45 minutes under my belt. 'The operation went well at the start of the summer so it's been about recovering from that and coming back strong, getting fit for the games. 'I feel good right now. The surgery I had in the summer kind of sorted out a few things for me. 'It was relatively straightforward. My right knee was just kind of cleaning up some kind of fragments that had come loose, just cleaning that out and then trying to get the knee to settle back down. 'It was sore. There was a bit of stiffness and pain every now and again. 'But it wasn't too bad. 'I'm going to have to learn to get on with it now and kind of play with it. 'It's pretty normal to pick little things up throughout the season but ideally, I'd love to feel 100 percent good and feel nothing when I play. 'But realistically, that's probably not going to be the case. 'It's not going to matter to me because I'm going to keep playing to the max. 'I always feel like I'm ready to play. 'There maybe be some times you feel fully 100 percent but everyone will tell you, you're kind of always going into games where there's just a bit of tiredness and you have got a little niggle. 'When was the last time I felt 100 percent? Probably not since I was 14! 'With the amount of games you play over a long season, you're bound to kind of pick up stuff and it's just about trying to manage that and the people at the club are helping you through it. 'But every time I go out on the pitch I feel good and I'm ready to play. 'I like to think of myself as someone who's fairly reliable, a kind of introverted kind of guy. 'But I'm always willing to kind of get out there and help the team in whatever way I can.' Carter-Vickers getting back up to speed is a major bonus for Celts and boss Brendan Rodgers is also determined to strengthen his squad. Fans are getting restless for new signings but the defender is a prime example of good things coming to those who wait. The former Tottenham ace landed at Celtic Park in the final minutes of deadline day and has never looked back. He said: 'I came in late in the window. A few hours before it happened I wouldn't have expected to come up here and be at Celtic. 'It just shows you, this is my fifth season now and I've really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to what's to come. 'As players, you focus kind of on the group that we have here and trying to build on what we have and trying to get our performances up to as good a level as we can. 'You've kind of got to trust the club and the manager that they're taking care of everything else and they'll do what they feel is necessary. 'But players coming in help build the competition within the squad and that can only push you forward as a team and help you come game day.' Carter-Vickers doesn't need any extra motivation but the prospect of the Champions League and a home World Cup in North America will get the juices flowing. But the immediate aim is to get off to a flier on Flag Day this coming weekend and he said: 'I think last year we really showed our development at that level and it's definitely somewhere we want to get back to and try to showcase what we can do again. 'The Champions League is exciting but we have a few games before the play-off and our focus will be on them. 'Every player wants to be a part of the World Cup, it's definitely exciting. 'All of the players know that it will be down to how we are performing for our clubs over the season if we want to end up playing in the World Cup. So that has to be the focus. 'My dad is from Louisiana, I've not checked yet if there are games near there yet but to be involved in a World Cup in America would be fantastic. 'It's always exciting at this time of year. We are a week away now from the first league game and that's what it's all about – getting going in competitive games and starting the season strong.'

Brendan Rodgers in Hatate and Carter-Vickers injury update
The former missed the final two games of last season through injury, while reports have suggested that Carter-Vickers could be in line for a spell on the sidelines. Rodgers recently moved to clear up any points of uncertainty: "Cam had some issues around the end of last season," he said [SunSport]. "But we decided this was really important for him and he needed that to get the operation. Read more: "We knew then the recovery time would mean he'd miss a week. "But he's back working again and, hopefully, [will] be ready for the next few weeks. "With Reo, was just a shame for him. He's had a few extra few days but he'll come back in and he'll be fine." Rodgers also confirmed that veteran winger James Forrest will be fit to travel to Ireland for Celtic's upcoming pre-season friendly against Cork City on Tuesday. It comes after the Scottish Premiership champions defeated Queen's Park by a goal to nil on Friday, as Johnny Kenny's first-half strike proved the difference between the sides.
