Tamika Catchings' heartfelt message to Pacers, Tyrese Haliburton after NBA Finals loss

The post Tamika Catchings' heartfelt message to Pacers, Tyrese Haliburton after NBA Finals loss appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Indiana Pacers fell one game short of their goal of an NBA championship, but a fellow Indiana basketball legend had some encouraging words for the team. 2012 WNBA champion Tamika Catchings sent her support to the Pacers and their injured star, Tyrese Haliburton. Advertisement 'No matter what I'm proud of this @Pacers team!' she wrote on Sunday via X. 'Fought til the end! Prayers up @TyHaliburton22 🙏🏽🥰Congrats to the @okcthunder!' The Pacers fell, 103-91, to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. To make matters worse, Haliburton suffered a torn right achilles tendon during the game and has since undergone surgery. His recovery could keep him out all of next season. Catchings played 15 seasons in the WNBA, all with the Indiana Fever, but it took until her 11th year before she won a championship. A 10-time All-Star, Catchings was also 2012 WNBA Finals MVP and named to the league's 25th Anniversary Team in 2021. The Fever retired her No. 24 in 2017. Catchings isn't the only Indiana legend who has sent their support to Haliburton, who averaged 17.3 points, 8.6 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game during the 2025 playoffs. Advertisement 'I felt the gut punch to Pacer Nation, not only from the loss, but the loss of our fearless leader @tyresehaliburton. The man upstairs always has a master plan and 'this to shall pass,'' Reggie Miller wrote on Instagram. 'I'm very grateful of the @pacers TEAM for bringing so much pride, grit and togetherness back to Indiana basketball.. Masterful job on the sideline Coach Rick Carlisle, and let's not forget about all the men and women who work in the Front Offices who sacrifice a lot of their time to make things happen.. #OGProudPacer' Haliburton, for his part, broke his silence in a lengthy post via X, in which he showed his appreciation for Pacers fans and promised to 'do everything in my power to get back right.' WNBA Legend Tamika Catchings Makes Major Personal Announcement

WNBA legend Tamika Catchings is one of the most accomplished women's basketball players of all time. After entering the league as the Indiana Fever's No. 3 overall pick in the 2001 WNBA draft, Catchings went on to notch Rookie of the Year honors, 10 WNBA All-Star selections, a WNBA MVP trophy (2011), a WNBA championship title and a WNBA Finals MVP. The former National Player of the Year also notched four Olympic gold medals with Team USA. Advertisement Catchings, 45, just added another outstanding accomplishment to her resume. On Tuesday, the retired women's basketball icon announced the completion of her Executive MBA degree from Notre Dame University. "Life lately… Thankful for the journey and the amazing people I got to do life with the last 18 months! Memories of a lifetime and another dream fulfilled! #LetTheJourneyContinue #Friendship #Lifetime #DreamsDoComeTrue #EMBA #ClassOf2025 @NotreDame @NDBusiness," Catchings wrote on X. Catchings' work ethic clearly hasn't slowed since her retirement from basketball in 2016. In a recent interview, Fever head coach Stephanie White compared Caitlin Clark's elite work ethic to Catching's. Advertisement "I don't want to put words in Caitlin Clark's mouth, but when you have somebody who works like she works on a daily basis, that is a perfectionist, that does things on such an elite level, they want to be the best," White said. "I compare her work ethic to the only other player who I've seen that works like this is Tamika Catchings, who is the all-time greatest. One of the all-time greats." Catchings will no doubt be tuned in for the Fever's regular-season opener against the Chicago Sky on May 17. Related: Rebecca Lobo Reacts to Groundbreaking Caitlin Clark Announcement

Georgia basketball adds BYU transfer forward

Georgia basketball adds BYU transfer forward Georgia Bulldogs basketball head coach Mike White dipped into the transfer portal and got another impact player in BYU Cougars forward Kanon Catchings. As a freshman last season, the six-foot-nine sophomore, originally from Brownsburg, Indiana, averaged 7.2 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. Notably, 123 of his shot attempts were from beyond the arc, where he connected on 35% of his shots. However, he converted only 59% of his free throw opportunities. Catchings played at Overtime Elite. The Bulldogs are building a nice reputation with Overtime Elite and have recently added Somto Cyril, a rising sophomore, and incoming freshman center Jackson McVay. BYU's Sweet Sixteen run in the NCAA Tournament occurred largely without significant contribution from Catchings due to injury. A knee issue sidelined him for the entirety of the Big 12 tournament, and he saw minimal action in the NCAA Tournament, playing just nine minutes total. While Georgia has seen four players enter the transfer portal and freshman standout Asa Newell declare for the 2025 NBA draft, the Bulldogs have secured commitments from two impressive transfers. The first is Jeremiah Wilkinson, the reigning ACC Sixth Man of the Year from Cal, who is also entering his sophomore season. In his debut college year, the guard averaged 15.1 points and played just over 27 minutes per game. Additionally, Georgia added Wofford transfer guard Justin Bailey.

On3 makes prediction for UNC basketball and this player in transfer portal

On3 makes prediction for UNC basketball and this player in transfer portal We're just one day removed from the end of college basketball season, with Florida coming back to defeat Houston in a National Championship classic, but things are already looking up for the North Carolina Tar Heels. UNC will welcome in 5-star power forward Caleb Wilson, a Top-10 freshman in the 2025 recruiting class. Seth Trimble just announced his return for a fourth and final season earlier Tuesday and North Carolina will soon host BYU transfer wing Kanon Catchings, plus Michigan State point guard Tre Holloman. Advertisement While the Tar Heels have yet to host Catchings or Holloman, there's an extremely strong chance at least one of them lands in Chapel Hill. Also on Tuesday, On3 Sports Transfer Portal Reporter Pete Nakos said there's a 100 percent chance UNC lands Catchings. Catchings would be a massive get for North Carolina. Though he's listed as a wing (small forward), Catchings' 6'9" frame means he can also play power forward or center. In 31 games (15 starts) for BYU during his freshman season, Catchings averaged 7.2 points per game, 2.2 rebounds per game and shot 41.1 percent from the field. Catchings watched his playing time decrease over the season, though, highlighted by playing nine total minutes in two NCAA Tournament games. Advertisement After lacking consistent height across their roster last year, the Tar Heels look poised to be a much taller team for their 2025-2026 campaign. UNC landed 7-foot center Henri Veesaar from Arizona in the transfer portal, Wilson is a 6'9" power forward and 6'8" center Ven-Allen Lubin returns. Though 100% is simply just a prediction, I love North Carolina's chances to land Catchings. Once the Tar Heels can land a portal point guard, they'll be all set.
