On3 makes prediction for UNC basketball and this player in transfer portal
We're just one day removed from the end of college basketball season, with Florida coming back to defeat Houston in a National Championship classic, but things are already looking up for the North Carolina Tar Heels.
UNC will welcome in 5-star power forward Caleb Wilson, a Top-10 freshman in the 2025 recruiting class. Seth Trimble just announced his return for a fourth and final season earlier Tuesday and North Carolina will soon host BYU transfer wing Kanon Catchings, plus Michigan State point guard Tre Holloman.

While the Tar Heels have yet to host Catchings or Holloman, there's an extremely strong chance at least one of them lands in Chapel Hill.
Also on Tuesday, On3 Sports Transfer Portal Reporter Pete Nakos said there's a 100 percent chance UNC lands Catchings.
Catchings would be a massive get for North Carolina. Though he's listed as a wing (small forward), Catchings' 6'9" frame means he can also play power forward or center.
In 31 games (15 starts) for BYU during his freshman season, Catchings averaged 7.2 points per game, 2.2 rebounds per game and shot 41.1 percent from the field. Catchings watched his playing time decrease over the season, though, highlighted by playing nine total minutes in two NCAA Tournament games.

After lacking consistent height across their roster last year, the Tar Heels look poised to be a much taller team for their 2025-2026 campaign. UNC landed 7-foot center Henri Veesaar from Arizona in the transfer portal, Wilson is a 6'9" power forward and 6'8" center Ven-Allen Lubin returns.
Though 100% is simply just a prediction, I love North Carolina's chances to land Catchings. Once the Tar Heels can land a portal point guard, they'll be all set.

Trio of Gators among college prospects primed to boost pro stock after returning to school

There still remains the entire 2025-26 college basketball campaign before the next NBA draft, but that certainly has not slowed down the national sports media when it comes to making projections, despite the additional fact that the event is 11 months in the future. The latest to offer their prognostications is CBS Sports writer Cameron Salerno, who published his list of 10 college prospects primed to boost pro stock after returning to school for next season. Among those names were a trio of Florida Gators, in junior forwards Thomas Haugh and Alex Condon (who also plays center), as well as recent transfer portal addition, sophomore guard Boogie Fland. Salerno's top-10 list focuses specifically on players who shunned the draft to return to college who project as potential first-round picks next summer. Of course, these predictions are predicated on the assumption that there will be improvements in performance this season. Thomas Haugh "While putting together my first mock draft of the cycle in April, I initially had Haugh as a potential first-round candidate before he decided to return to Florida. That was without even going through the draft process. I'm here to tell you: buy all the stock you can in Florida's star forward," Salerno begins. "Haugh shined during Florida's NCAA Tournament run because he does all the little things. He's a great offensive rebounder, can stretch the floor and makes winning plays. His archetype is one NBA decision-makers covet," he continues. "Don't be surprised if Haugh is a lottery pick next summer. He has a chance to be an All-America candidate if things go well." Alex Condon "Condon made the right decision to return to school after his play during the NCAA Tournament failed to improve his stock," Salerno notes. "Without a guarantee of going in the first round, Condon decided to run it back and solidified the best frontcourt in college basketball in the process. The two-way upside is what has my attention." Boogie Fland "The reigning national champions got a major boost to their repeat hopes by landing Fland. The Arkansas transfer got off to an incredible start in his freshman campaign before a thumb injury derailed his season during SEC play," he offers. "Fland is a dynamic playmaker who can score at all three levels and his move to Florida is a perfect match for both sides. He was trending as a potential lottery pick before the injury." Michigan State football left off Sporting News' preseason bowl projections

Will Michigan State snap its three-year bowl-less streak this upcoming season? Bill Bender at Sporting News doesn't think so. Bender released updated bowl projections late last month, which failed to include the Spartans. Bender elected to have Wisconsin land in the GameAbove Sports Bowl and Rutgers in the Rate Bowl over Michigan State finding its way into those two lower tier Big Ten bowl games. Michigan State is looking to bounce back from a rough finish to the opening season under new head coach Jonathan Smith. The Spartans opened 2024 with a 3-0 record before struggling to reach bowl eligibility and finishing 5-7 overall. Michigan State comes into this season with a win total over-under of 5.5 so the betting experts think the Spartans will once again be right around bowl eligibility this year. However, most of the preseason bowl projections I've came across are like Bender and don't have the Spartans bowling this year. The Spartans will kick off the 2025 season on August 29 against in-state foe Western Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will be televised on FS1. Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love continues to give back, hosts youth football camp

There are very high expectations for star Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love for the 2025 college football season following his breakout campaign last year. Despite the hard work he and his teammates are putting in to prepare for the fall, he made sure to make time for the South Bend community on Friday. Love put on the CareSource Jeremiyah Love Impact Camp for local kids at Washington High School in South Bend. The camp featured over 200 kids in grades 1-8, and Love taught them various fundamentals of football through a variety of drills. The Fighting Irish football team as a whole prides itself on giving back to the community in South Bend throughout the year. "It feels great," Love said. "I love interacting with kids and just people in general. So, whenever I get an opportunity to do something like this, I'm all for it. I'm ready to go. "It means a lot to be able to come out and just be here with the kids. I'm not necessarily teaching them how to do things because there's so many kids here, but I'm around talking with them and just introducing myself. Just trying to be cool with them. But yeah, it means a lot." The Irish kick off the new season at Miami on August 31.
