Atletico make themselves at home again at ATCO Field, defeating Cavalry FC 2-0
Atletico Ottawa continued a hot streak at ATCO Field Saturday, defeating Cavalry FC 2-0 at Spruce Meadows. It was the club's fifth straight win and sixth in their last nine appearances on Calgary's home field -- the most victories by any Canadian Premier League team apart from the Cavalry themselves. Kevin Dos Santos broke in and fired one under the hand of Marco Carducci a little over eight minutes into the game, giving Atletico a 1-0 lead. 'They made the saves and blocks and things like that they needed to do, and they were flawless in that. That's the tale of the game, really.' Cavalry FC are now off until July 8, when they play a Canadian Championship match against Vancouver FC, so they have a chance to regroup after having a 10 game undefeated streak snapped Saturday. 'Refresh, reset, reload,' Wheeldon Jr. said. 'That's what we've got to look at. I said to the lads, we put a game plan together. A couple of things didn't go our way in a 90-plus minute game. So what we've got to do is just draw a line in the sand, move on, reload, and now we'll go again.'

Article content The reschedule match — postponed from a day earlier when a storm ravaged Calgary — saw continued dominance by the home side to push it further up the table in the 2025 Canadian Premier League campaign. Article content 'Confidence was high — we're a good squad,' said Cavalry forward Ali Musse, in the moments after Sunday's victory. 'We came prepared for this game, and I thought we did what we wanted to do. Article content Article content The decision lifts Cavalry closer to top spot in the CPL. Article content Its 6W-2L-3D record is good enough for third place with 21 points, four back of league-leading Atlético Ottawa (7-1-4) and two behind of second-runner Forge FC (6-0-5). Article content 'We're still hungry — I think we're still building,' Musse said. 'Obviously, it's good that we haven't lost (in 10 games). We're in good form right now, but we're still hungry.' Start of Cavalry FC game postponed due to weather
If you're planning to head to Spruce Meadows to see Cavalry FC Saturday, pump the brakes. The Canadian Premier League club announced shortly after noon that the start of its scheduled 2:30 p.m. game against Pacific F.C. has been postponed. 'Due to the weather, kickoff for today's game has been postponed,' the club said. 'We will have another update shortly once Canada Soccer officials have assessed the field of play. (within the next hour).' This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
