The reschedule match — postponed from a day earlier when a storm ravaged Calgary — saw continued dominance by the home side to push it further up the table in the 2025 Canadian Premier League campaign.

'Confidence was high — we're a good squad,' said Cavalry forward Ali Musse, in the moments after Sunday's victory. 'We came prepared for this game, and I thought we did what we wanted to do.

The decision lifts Cavalry closer to top spot in the CPL.

Its 6W-2L-3D record is good enough for third place with 21 points, four back of league-leading Atlético Ottawa (7-1-4) and two behind of second-runner Forge FC (6-0-5).

'We're still hungry — I think we're still building,' Musse said. 'Obviously, it's good that we haven't lost (in 10 games). We're in good form right now, but we're still hungry.'

It was clean-sheet by superstar goalkeeper Marco Carducci and an early goal from Musse that decided the match on the scoreboard.

Musse's 13th-minute marker was a beauty, as he took a long-range pass into the penalty area from teammate Sergio Camargo off his chest and chipped the ball in on the half-volley with the outside of his left foot.

'I made the run (into the box), and Sergio played an amazing ball in,' Musse said. 'The rest of it … I just went for it.'

'What we've got to do is to dislodge their block is move them from one side to the other and to other, so that the pieces start coming out,' added Cavalry gaffer Tommy Wheeldon Jr., recalling the goal. 'And what Sergio did quite well once we moved the ball to his side is recognized a gap between (defenders) for Musse coming in the other side.

It was his fifth goal of the CPL season, tied for the team-high with Tobias Warschewski.

At the other end, Carducci wasn't busy but was sharp when called upon, jumping high to grab a couple of would-be goals by the visitors on a few occasions. For the Cavalry captain, it was his fourth clean-sheet in 11 contests.

Former Canadian men's coach Stephen Hart named interim bench boss of NSL's Halifax Tides FC
Stephen Hart, former coach of the Canadian national men's team and Halifax Wanderers of the Canadian Premier League, has been named interim coach of the Northern Super League's Halifax Tides FC. The 65-year-old Hart succeeds Lewis Page, who has shifted roles to help establish the Tides development academy. At 1-6-1, Halifax sits in the basement of the six-team NSL after losing three straight games. "It's an honour to step into this role," Hart said in a statement. "Our team is focused, resilient and committed to growing together both on and off the field. I'm excited to lead this next chapter and help guide the players through the remainder of the season with passion, purpose and pride." Hart coached the Canadian men in various stints from 2006 to 2012, posting a 20-15-10 record. He resigned in October 2012 after an 8-1 loss to Honduras ended Canada's World Cup qualifying run. After coaching his native Trinidad and Tobago, Hart took charge of the Halifax entry in the CPL for its debut season in 2019. He was fired in October 2022 after an 8-15-5 campaign. More recently, he has served as a consultant to the NWSL's Portland Thorns. "This is about building for the long-term success of the club," said Tides president Valerie Malone. "Strengthening our leadership structure and investing in player development, starting with the academy — are important steps in that direction. We're also continuing to reinforce the roster and look forward to sharing more on that later this week."

Atletico Ottawa continued a hot streak at ATCO Field Saturday, defeating Cavalry FC 2-0 at Spruce Meadows. It was the club's fifth straight win and sixth in their last nine appearances on Calgary's home field -- the most victories by any Canadian Premier League team apart from the Cavalry themselves.
