FYJC admission: First list announced, 6.32 lakh students allotted colleges

The much-awaited first regular round selection list for Class 11 FYJC admissions was announced by the education department in a surprise move on Saturday evening. In the Central Admission Process (CAP), 6,32,194 students were allotted junior colleges out of the total 10,66,005 applicants. A total of 4,57,841 applicants were allotted the college of their first choice, as per the information provided by the Director of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Mahesh Palkar. Students who have been allotted colleges will be required to physically go to the respective junior colleges from June 30 to July 7 to confirm their admission. After multiple delays, the first selection list was to be announced on June 26. This date was further postponed to June 30 due to technical difficulties and a Bombay High Court order cancelling reservations in minority institutes. With a revision to the schedule announced just hours before, the education department released the CAP list on Saturday evening, two days before the June 30 schedule. As per data shared by the directorate, 1,49,791 students were allotted seats in the arts stream, which had 2,31,356 applicants. In the commerce stream, 1,39,602 students were allotted seats out of 2,24,931 applicants while in the science stream, 3,42,801 students were allotted seats out of the total 6,09,718 applicants. Over 72 per cent allotees (4,57,841) out of the total have been allotted the college of their first choice. 77,099 students have been allotted the college their second choice while 36,901 students have been allotted their third choice college. Students who have been allotted their first choice college must confirm their admissions as they will not be allowed to take part in further CAP rounds. Previously, 60,487 students were allotted colleges under quota admissions out of a total of 1,45,225 applicants. This includes three quotas, namely management quota, minority quota, and in-house quota. Accordingly, 6,92,681 have been allotted admissions in the quota round and CAP round combined. The online CAP was implemented state-wide for the first time this year, excluding the Konkan division. Before this, the online admission process was restricted to colleges falling under five regions–Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Nashik, and Amravati Municipal Corporation areas. Maharashtra government officials yet to confirm if FYJC first merit list to be out today

Mumbai: Confusion prevailed till late Wednesday as state officials did not confirm whether or not the first seat allotment list for admission to junior colleges would be released on Thursday. As reported by TOI on Wednesday, state officials said the FYJC admission software had been updated, but if a "query arose while running it, they would have to declare a fresh date to release the admission list". On Monday, state issued a Govt Resolution (GR) clarifying that Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Other Backward Category reservations will not apply to minority colleges, following which officials allotted seats under the altered seat matrix in minority colleges. "We are working on a war footing basis to release the list and we hope to do so on Thursday. If not, we will declare a fresh date," said an officer. Maharashtra government scraps social quotas in minority colleges; FYJC merit list in Mumbai likely to face delay amid confusion over reservation

Mumbai: Even as Maharashtra govt issued a government resolution (GR) on Monday, following a court directive, clarifying that Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Other Backward Category reservations will not apply to minority colleges, officials are still allotting seats under the altered seat matrix in minority colleges. Those in the know have raised serious doubts about whether the first FYJC merit list will be released on Thursday or if a new date will be announced. It is believed that after Monday's GR, several minority colleges called in-house aspirants on Tuesday, asked them to fill their forms again and submit the same with the fresh date of Tuesday, and asked their parents to pay fees on Friday. SSC exams were held early this year, and the results came sooner than expected — on May 13. But for lakhs of Class 10 students in Maharashtra, that headstart dissolved into a slow wait with govt first trying new centralised admission systems and then wanting to impose new reservations in minority institutes. Last year, SSC results were announced on May 27, and the first list was released on June 27. You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai "We are trying hard to see if we can declare the first merit list on Thursday. The entire team is working to allot seats to in-house students in minority colleges where reservation was cancelled. We will consolidate all the information on Wednesday and take a final call on whether the first merit list can be declared on Thursday evening or if we need to give students more time," said a senior official from the FYJC admissions cell. What was meant to be a smooth transition has turned jagged, said principals. The first merit list for FYJC admissions has now been delayed multiple times. "Delays were caused because a number of minority institutions decided to take govt to court and because of low participation in a govt tender," said an official from the education department. A court battle over reservations — now overturned by the GR — only deepened the cracks. "This time the intention was good," a vice-principal said. "But children have lost faith. They turn to integrated courses offered by coaching classes, they stop believing in colleges." Over 12.7 lakh students took part in this year's Central Admission Process, the state's first fully digital push. But for many, the online system was more of a bottleneck than a bridge. Diploma admissions in state to have four rounds

The Central Admission Process (CAP) for diploma admissions in the state to courses like engineering, hotel management and catering, pharmacy, surface coating technology, etc. will have four rounds instead of three from 2025-26 onwards, according to a government resolution by the Higher and Technical Education Department. According to the new rules, the seats available for rounds rounds II, III and IV will be published on the website. The candidates eligible for these rounds will be allowed to fill in and/or edit the online option form filled in the previous round. Vinod Mohitkar, Maharashtra's Director of Technical Education, said that the changes in rules were brought in to increase the admission numbers for the diploma courses. Previously, candidates who had been allotted a seat other than first preference and had confirmed the seat to the Admission Reporting Centre (ARC), could fill in a fresh form for their seat preference. However, according to the new rules, if a candidate is allotted the seat as per his first three or first six preferences in Round-II or Round-III respectively, the candidate has to accept the seat alloted. The new rules say, '…such allotment shall be auto freezed and the candidate shall accept the allotment so made.' After accepting this seat, that candidate will not be eligible for participation in the subsequent CAP rounds. The new rules specify that if the allotment made in Round-II or Round-III is not from the first three or six respective preferences submitted by candidates, they have the option to accept or not accept the allotted seat. In either case, the candidate will be eligible for participation in the subsequent rounds. No betterment option will be available to candidates after round IV and the allotment made or retained in this round will be the final allotment. However, for 'working professionals', Round-II will be the final allotment and no betterment option available after this round. Like previous years, every stage in the CAP admission process will be conducted with the HD (Home District) and OHD (Other than Home District) tag. If seats remain vacant, then the same stage will be conducted without these tags. Further, the technical education department has also instructed colleges that an information brochure or prospectus of the Institution specifying details like accreditation, status, fee structure, hostels and other facilities, academic, curricular, and co-curricular activities and features has to be published before the commencement of the admission process.
