Georgia football secures massive 4-star commitment over Texas, Michigan
The post Georgia football secures massive 4-star commitment over Texas, Michigan appeared first on ClutchPoints. Kirby Smart and Georgia football didn't hang her heads for long after a disappointing finish to last season, as the Bulldogs were soundly beaten by Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals at the Sugar Bowl. Instead, as he always does, Smart got right back to work building another contender for the 2025 season and beyond. Advertisement Georgia did some good work in the transfer portal to bolster the roster heading into next season, but they have also been hard at work on the recruiting trail stocking the cupboard for the future. Georgia got another big-time commitment in the class of 2026 on Friday, securing a commitment from four-star defensive back Chace Calicut, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports. 'BREAKING: Four-Star CB Chace Calicut has Committed to Georgia, he tells me for @on3recruits,' Fawcett wrote on X, formerly Twitter. 'The 6'3 195 CB from Houston, TX chose the Bulldogs over Texas and Michigan.' Calicut also sent a message to Bulldogs fans to celebrate his commitment. 'There's not a better program producing dbs than UGA,' he said. 'Dawg nation I'm home!' Advertisement Getting a talented defensive back is a big win for Smart and the Dawgs, but it will be even sweeter for them considering that Texas, one of their biggest rivals, was also in on the coveted corner. Calicut is a Texas native, so this is a very impressive feat for Smart to steal him away from Steve Sarkisian and company. Following this commitment, Georgia now has the No. 3 overall class in 2026, according to On3 Sports. That group is currently headlined by five-star quarterback Jared Curtis and includes a number of highly sought-after players all over the field. While it comes as no surprise to see the Bulldogs near the top of those rankings as they do seemingly every year, that doesn't make it any less impressive. In the meantime, Georgia football will be pushing for another national title in 2025 while Calicut plays his final season at North Shore High School. It certainly has the talent to do so, and now it is better set up to continue the run through the end of the decade. BREAKING: Four-star safety picks Georgia over Texas in huge recruiting blow
Just five days ago, it looked like the Longhorns were in a great spot to get four-star safety Chace Calicut to commit to Texas. But that didn't happen. On Friday, the Houston North Shore prospect committed to recruiting rival Georgia. Calicut, who took part in the exclusive Rivals Five-Star Challenge earlier in the week, told Rivals analyst Sam Spiegelman his relationship with Longhorns CB coach Mark Orphey, who also went to North Shore, when talking about his recruitment by the Longhorns at the event's media day. "Mark Orphey came from my hometown school, North Shore. He coached there. He went to school there. He knows exactly how it is to be from Houston North Shore. And he knows how to fit me in with those guys. That's another reason why Texas is up there. It's the same thing with coach Steve Sarkisian. He really gets the players. He's more of a players coach and that's the type of guy I would like to play for." -- Chace Calicut Calicut took an official visit to Georgia on June 6, followed by Michigan on June 13 and Texas on June 20. On Friday, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound defensive back told Spiegelman he actually made his decision on that first official visit to Athens. "I made my decision down there at Georgia during the official visit," Calicut told Rivals. "The coaches always told me that when you're home, it'll feel right ... When I stepped foot on Georgia's campus, after I got a feel for the program, I knew it was the right spot. How could it get better? I don't think it can ... playing for Kirby Smart, at Georgia, at defensive back ... that's the best you can get for a long cornerback. If you wanna get produced, if you wanna go to the next level, you wanna play at Georgia." -- Chace Calicut Texas does already have three DB's committed to the 2026 class in safeties Jake Collett and Yaheim Riley and cornerback Hayward Howard Jr. Follow us on X (formerly Twitter) at @LonghornsWire.

Blue-chip DB Chace Calicut commits to Georgia: 'How could it get better?'
Chace Calicut has locked in his college commitment. During halftime of a 7-on-7 game at the OT7 Finals in South Florida, Rivals' No. 4-ranked safety out of Texas committed to Georgia. Dawgs defensive backs coach Donte Williams extended an offer to Calicut in the spring and Georgia moved into pole position with the blue-chipper during his official visit to Athens earlier this month. Advertisement "I made my decision down there at Georgia during the official visit," Calicut told Rivals. "The coaches always told me that when you're home, it'll feel right ... When I stepped foot on Georgia's campus, after I got a feel for the program, I knew it was the right spot." Williams, Travaris Robinson and Kirby Smart all showed a vested interest in the 6-foot-3, 195-pound Calicut out of Houston powerhouse Galena Park (Texas) North Shore High School. Calicut loved the opportunity to learn from some of the best defensive minds in the country. "How could it get better?" he started. "I don't think it can ... playing for Kirby Smart, at Georgia, at defensive back ... Kirby Smart, Donte and T-Rob -- that's the best you can get for a long cornerback." Advertisement "If you wanna get produced, if you wanna go to the next level, you wanna play at Georgia," Calicut added. Texas was trending with the top-100 prospect for chunks of the spring after extending an offer to the in-state blue-chipper after his junior season. Georgia was late to the party, but made the strongest impression at the right time with Calicut and his family in two visits. "It's one of the best schools to go play defensive back at," he said. "They maximize your potential there at Georgia. That's all they want you to do -- to keep getting better ... to keep your head down and work."
