Janet Street-Porter leaves Loose Women open-mouthed as she reveals her little-known role in adult movie before TV fame

Janet Street Porter left her Loose Women co-stars open-mouthed as she revealed her little-known role in adult movie during Monday's instalment of the ITV show. The 78-year-old, Charlene White, 45, Katie Piper, 41, and Brenda Edwards, 56, returned to the studio to discuss the latest headlines and newsworthy topics. The Loose ladies got chatting about their first jobs as most schools have officially broken up for the summer holidays. Janet confessed that she landed a role as a temporary clinical officer at the tax office to cover for her mum, but it was her next job that was out of the norm. She said: 'When I was at college, a friend of mine got a job advising, it was the end of the 60s and London had a lot of foreign film directors and wanted to make a lot of saucy movies about swinging London. 'My friend got a job as an art director or something, and he got me a job as an actual actress, non-speaking, extra and I played a receptionist.' Katie asked: 'An adult movie?' 'Yes,' Janet replied. 'The thing is, I had like a mini white nylon overall, I had hair sprayed silver, I had false eye lashes. 'They took my glasses off me. So don't ask me what the action was!' Charlene pointed out: 'You couldn't see the extra stuff?' Janet added: 'I walked through the Turkish bars, I held my clipboard high. ' 'Do you know what? The film is available, but unsurprisingly we're not going to show it,' Charlene said. Meanwhile others opened up about their first jobs. Katie confessed: 'Before I got my national insurance number, so I guess I must have been 14, me and my sister had a car-washing business. 'Looking back, quality control wasn't high, it was mobile with bucket and sponge, no hose pipe. There was probably quite a lot of soap suds on your car at the end. 'We then also had table top sales at the end of the drive. 'We lived in a village, in my mum's garden there was an apple tree. We would sell all the apples, all our old toys. We weren't paying tax but we were 14...' Then when she got her NI number she landed herself a job at Tesco. Katie said: 'I kept that job for the whole of college, I started on the checkouts, then I went to customer service, got promoted to the tobacco kiosk. 'I was at my mum's this weekend, I went back into Tesco and loads of the same people that I worked with are still there now.' Charlene started working part-time at 16 and then at 18 she worked at the London Trocadero - and she would sometimes dress up as Sonic the Hedgehog handing out flyers. It comes after Janet's comments to Loose Women co-star Kelle Bryan resulted in her storming out of the studio into the audience last week. Janet, Kelle, Brenda and Coleen spoke about heartbreak and they all had different opinions. Kelle said: 'I'm clearly on the wrong panel today... if I get my heart broken it takes me a long time to recover. 'I'll be sad and down, it takes me a long time to let someone in in the first place. To trust somebody. 'It takes me a bit of time to say you're my person, but once I've made that decision, you're my person, you're in my world. 'If they let me down, hurt me, cheat on me, dump me, I'm devastated for a bit!' Janet piped up and asked: 'But Kelly, aren't you just cross you messed up and made the wrong decision?' A shocked Kelle said: 'Right. I'm off. I'm going to go and sit in the audience!'

Families speak out about Algonquin College's plan to phase out adult special needs program

Terry (left), Charlene (middle) and Brennan White (right) say they are 'disappointed and sad' about Algonquin College's decision to discontinue the AAADD program. (Josh Marano/CTV News Ottawa) Brennan White is currently enrolled in the Academic Assistance for Adults with Developmental Disabilities (AAADD) program at Algonquin College. The AAADD program has been offered at the college since 1997, providing academic and social skills for adults with developmental disabilities. White just finished his second year at the school but said he was 'disappointed and upset' to learn the school is phasing out the program as it faces financial challenges. The college says the program will conclude on April 30, 2026 to allow students currently enrolled to finish their studies. Brennan's mother Charlene White says the news came as a shock and adds the program is important for her son's independence. 'Brennan does love going to the (AAADD) program, it increases his independence,' Charlene White says. 'He goes on the bus to get here, he loves the college atmosphere, that is so crucial.' AAADD students are given a certificate of completion and not a formal credential approved by the Ministry of Education when they finish their studies. The college previously told CTV News Ottawa that it would be focusing on credentialed programs that align with its mandate. The program does not receive funding from the Ministry of Education. White is one of many families that are affected by the closure of the program. There are currently 73 students enrolled in the program, but no new students have been accepted for three years. 'It is a really important niche for so many young adults and adults with exceptionalities who need extra help, support with continued learning, but are certainly capable of continued learning and so this should be funded in some way, shape or form by the provincial government,' Charlene White adds. A town hall is being hosted on Thursday by Ottawa West-Nepean NDP MPP Chandra Pasma at City View United Church at 7 p.m. 'It's an opportunity for parents and those who are concerned about these program cuts to come, share the impact on their children and to talk about what we can do to fight to get this program and to have it continued,' Pasma says. White says they are planning to hold a protest later this fall. The college already announced wider cuts earlier this year, including the suspension of 41 active and dormant programs, the closure of the Perth Campus and the offering of voluntary exit packages to staff, citing a drop in international student enrollment and a tuition freeze. Staff say enrolment is projected to drop 11 per cent in 2025-26. Algonquin College reported in January that it was projecting a $32 million loss in revenue for 2024-25, and a $60 million loss in 2025-26 and $93 million for 2026-27. The board of governors approved the $479 million 2025-26 school year budget last month, using $41 million in reserves to cover the multi-million-dollar budget deficit and to support projects and initiatives at the college for the next school year. Charlene White can't resist swipe at ITV bosses live on Loose Women - leaving studio audience awkwardly laughing as she brings up daytime telly cuts

Charlene White couldn't resist a swipe at ITV bosses live on Loose Women during Monday's episode - which left the studio audience awkwardly laughing as she brought up the daytime telly cuts. The instalment saw Charlene, Katie Piper, 41, Gloria Hunniford, 85, and Jane Moore, 63, return to our screens for a good old chin wag. The Loose ladies got chatting about if they feel like they 'have a purpose' in life, which led onto them discussing work ethic. And this led anchor Charlene to make a dig at the channel after it was revealed back in May that Lorraine and Loose Women have been axed for half the year - as ITV announced a big shake up to its daytime schedule amid huge cuts. Charlene said: 'I can't imagine myself, like I would like to work as long as I am physically able to, and if I am still enjoying it.' The anchor then gave a cheeky look to the audience and said: 'But as we know, the TV industry is going in so many different directions... Charlene White couldn't resist a swipe at ITV bosses live on Loose Women during Monday's episode - which left the studio audience awkwardly laughing as she brought up the daytime telly cuts 'Who knows what will happen when I reach retirement age!' Back in May that the show and Lorraine, hosted by Lorraine Kelly, have been axed for half the year, as the channel announced a big shake up to its daytime schedule. Both programmes will air for 30 weeks per year from January 2026, which is a stark contrast to their current year-round schedules. Coleen has been a panelist on Loose Women since 2000 - and she's spoken out about how the changes have affected her. Speaking to The Mirror, Coleen said: 'The crew have become family. I've watched them grow. 'Some of our runners from back in the day are producers, married with kids. I've shared my life with them. 'They're in limbo, not knowing what they're going to do.' Just last month the MailOnline revealed that the show would be axing their live audience in a bid to save cash. Coleen added: 'Loose Women isn't ending, which I'm so thankful for, but it's changing. 'It's going to be very different in the respect of the size of the crew, but it's still running. 'Which it should be – there isn't another show that celebrates and supports all women of every size, age, whatever. 'But it's heartbreaking to see some of my colleagues not knowing what they're going to do. 'Many of them have young families and mortgage.' Coleen isn't the first to speak out as panellist Sue Cleaver, 61, broke her silence last month. Coleen isn't the first to speak out as panellist Sue Cleaver, 61, broke her silence last month (pictured) The former Corrie star told the Express: 'We've been through it at Corrie as well and these are people's lives, and I just feel very much for all the production and the crew because people are struggling. 'It's affecting young families and it's obviously been a pretty hard time for people to hear that. 'But, you know, we have to just embrace change, and we'll see what happens.' And Nadia Sawalha, 60, has also shared her thoughts. Speaking alongside her husband Mark Adderley on the couple's YouTube channel she explained: 'Do you know what? At the moment, all of us on screen are in work and are proud of what we do. 'But behind the scenes, there are people that are really suffering and what you don't realise is when you attack the show, you attack them, because you never see all the army of people behind the scenes and how hard they work.' Struggling to hold back her tears, Nadia added: 'So, to all my friends and colleagues behind the scenes who have just got a huge shock out of the blue: I'm so sorry. 'Mark knows how upset I've been at home about it. 'I just can't bear it. 'So, just be f*****g kind to people.' On Friday it was revealed that three ITV daytime shows have parachuted in to fill a void left by axed Loose Women and Lorraine episodes. The Chase, Deal Or No Deal and Tipping Point have have even been given a 'major boost' on the schedule and according to The Sun, new episodes will be filming later this year. Loose Women first aired in 1999 and has gone on to have 29 successful series. The panel includes the likes of Coleen, Sue, Nadia, Ruth Langsford, Janet Street Porter, Charlene White, Christine Lampard, Judi Love and Brenda Edwards.

Loose Women star's tears in front of boss after calls for her to be sacked

Loose Women anchor and ITV News presenter Charlene White said she subjected to days of racist abuse, after a personal decision sparked widespread backlash Charlene White has shared her own experiences of shedding tears at work, following Rachel Reeves ' emotional moment last week. The Chancellor made headlines when she was spotted wiping away tears behind Prime Minister Keir Starmer, in the House of Commons, last Wednesday. The 46-year-old later explained that she was upset due to "personal reasons" and admitted it had been "a tough day". ‌ In her new column for the i Paper, the Loose Women presenter reflected on the first time she let her emotions take over in the workplace. ‌ Recalling an incident in 2013, Charlene said she was targeted by English Defence League supporters for not wearing a poppy on Remembrance Day. "I've explained my reasons why [I don't wear one], and that I come from a forces family," she explained. "I wear a poppy in my private life, I donate to the Royal British Legion, and I think their work is incredible." ‌ While the 45-year-old initially tried to ignore the backlash, she recalled how being subjected to racist abuse for several days eventually took its toll. "By the time Monday came, and another day at work, the abusive tweets had reached the hundreds. It included a 'sack the s**g' campaign, which encouraged people to sign a petition and call in to ITV demanding my removal," she reflected. ‌ Charlene was later urged to write a statement explaining her reasons for not wearing a poppy, though claimed this was stopped by some bosses at the time. Additionally, she was advised to dismiss the abuse as "it would blow over". "It was at that point, for the first time in my working life, I burst into tears in my boss' office, unable to cope with the weight of the abuse of the previous days," she said. ‌ Charlene said she "frantically" tried to wipe away her tears and conceal her emotions, in fear that she was at risk of losing her job. "Despite everything that had happened, I was terrified about how the tears would make me look," she confessed. ‌ "Robin, [her managing editor at the time] though naturally shocked by my tears, sat with me as I cried and calmed me down. "That moment was a turning point in what had been an awful few days. "He and my then boss, Geoff, decided to publish my statement regardless of previous instructions, and that's when things started to improve." Fast forward the years and Charlene has observed a shift in attitudes towards expressing emotions. She noted that there are now "many of us [who] stress less about the minutiae of tears", adding: "Because, shocker, it's not a reflection of how good women are at ours jobs and I'm here for it."

Elsewhere in the episode Dragons' Den star Emma Grede and Hugo Vickers appeared on the show to chat to the panel. It comes after Rosemary Shrager recalled the moment she was bitten by an adder after she fell into a bush during a 450-mile bike ride. The TV chef featured on Monday's instalment of Loose Women and joined panellists Ruth Langsford, Linda Robson, Oti Mabuse and Katie Piper. She recently completed a whopping bike ride called Two Wheels For Meals and rode for 18 days all the way from Land's End to Dover to raise funds to donate to food poverty charities. To prepare for the big ride, Rosemary trained and worked on her fitness, but she 'kept falling off her bike'. Things took a turn when she fell onto an unsuspecting snake while cycling in Cornwall. 'I fell onto an adder and it did bite me... on my leg,' Rosemary recalled. 'The problem was I didn't dare tell anyone, this was in Cornwall I fell into a hedge and my leg went into the grass and I literally fell on the adder.' She added: 'It just obviously didn't like me, it bit me.' However, the TV chef revealed she didn't tell anyone as she wanted to continue the journey. 'But I didn't want to tell anyone because I had to get from that destination to that destination everyday it was sometimes 55 miles, sometimes 48, it was a lot,' Rosemary said.
