GM wins victory as appeals court decertifies transmission lawsuits
General Motors persuaded a federal appeals court on Friday to decertify a class action seeking to hold the automaker liable for knowingly selling about 800,000 cars, trucks and SUVs with faulty transmissions . In a 9-7 vote, the 6th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati found too many differences among vehicle owners to justify having one judge oversee the litigation, including 26 statewide subclasses and 59 state law claims. Class actions can result in greater recoveries at lower cost than if plaintiffs were forced to sue individually. Neither GM nor lawyers for the vehicle owners immediately responded to requests for comment. The case covered Chevrolet and GMC vehicles equipped with 8L45 or 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmissions, and sold in the 2015 through 2019 model years. Drivers said the vehicles shuddered and shook in higher gears, and hesitated and lurched in lower gears, even after repair attempts. The vehicles included the Cadillac CTS, CT6 and Escalade; Chevrolet Camaro, Colorado, Corvette and Silverado; and GMC Canyon, Sierra and Yukon, among others. The decision reversed an August 2024 ruling by Circuit Judge Karen Nelson Moore for a three-judge panel. Moore dissented on Friday, accusing the new majority of trying to erect "insurmountable barriers to certification for plaintiffs who file class-action complaints against national manufacturers." Republican presidents appointed the nine judges in Friday's majority, while Democratic presidents appointed the seven dissenting judges. The appeals court sent the litigation back to US District Judge David Lawson in Detroit for further review, which could lead to certification of smaller subclasses. The case is Speerly et al v. General Motors LLC, 6th US Circuit Court of Appeals, No. 23-1940.

Police once again asked the public for clues regarding a deadly hit-and-run crash that happened in South Los Angeles on June 1, now highlighting a $50,000 reward as their leads have continued to hit dead ends. Officers were called to the intersection of Century Boulevard and San Pedro Street at around 11:10 p.m. that night after learning of a bicyclist who was hit by a speeding Chevrolet Camaro, said a release from Los Angeles police at the time. The crash left 34-year-old Jose Villalobos, who was riding a bicycle, dead at the scene. New images of the possible suspect and vehicle involved in the deadly hit-and-run. Los Angeles Police Department The suspect made a right turn onto San Pedro Street, continued heading north and turned westbound onto E. 98th Street following the collision, failing to stop and help the victim, police said. Since the crash, investigators have been unable to find additional details leading to the suspect's location. On June 18, they shared surveillance footage of the violent crash, which showed the victim being thrown into the road. The latest request for information from police brought further attention to the standing $50,000 reward being offered by the city as part of the Hit-and-Run Reward Program. Georgia Murder Mystery Surrounding Camaro In 1985 Solved By Homemaker
⚡️ Read the full article on Motorious In modern times, we've seen our fair share of crimes involving muscle cars, usually involving theft and general mischief. For car enthusiasts, these thefts can be devastating emotionally and financially. Still, we can often forget that car grand theft auto isn't just about stealing an unmanned vehicle with a signal jammer. In many cases, the stolen cars don't have newer accessories like keyless entry and thus are taken by force. This was the case for one unfortunate man killed over his Chevrolet Camaro in 1985. Some 37 years later, a curious homemaker with a taste for investigative work has only recently identified the body. So who was this man whose vehicle was worth his life, and how did his identification come about? Watch our interview with a car detailer here. The aforementioned homemaker was Barbra King Ladd, who had become incredibly fascinated with the story of some skeletal remains found nearly 37 years ago off Interstate 24 in Tennessee. Unfortunately, nobody could identify the body for decades, and the incident was deemed a cold case after years of unfruitful investigative work. However, with modern-day internet technology, nearly everything is recorded and accessible to the general public if they are willing to do some digging. Utilizing this, Ladd cross-referenced missing person reports to other events and pieces of evidence associated with the body, with one deviation from how the police did things. Instead of keeping the search in Tennessee, Ladd would rationalize combining records from other states by saying, "I thought it would be worth the effort to cross state lines to dump a body. So I honed in on Georgia because it was close to Marion County." Eventually, this led her to one Donald Boardman, who went missing in 1985 after Purchasing a Chevrolet Camaro. Just two weeks after his disappearance, two men and a woman were found in his vehicle though the police couldn't extract much information from them about the car's owner. It would appear that this case is close to being solved, with the generally accepted Theory being that Boardman's death was the effect of a robbery gone wrong. Finally, the family of the long-missing car lover can have some peace and closure, but there is still work to be done in determining the cause of death and what actually happened outside of speculation. WATCH: F1 champion Max Verstappen teases NASCAR crossover ‘I would like to do it'
At the newly reopened Hangar-7 in Salzburg, Austria, 4-time F1 champion Max Verstappen casually dropped a bombshell that's got NASCAR fans talking. He'd be up for getting in Connor Zilisch's Red Bull-backed №87 Chevrolet Camaro. The event was a celebration of Red Bull's motorsport universe. It had stars like MotoGP legend Dani Pedrosa, 2025 Dakar Rally winner Daniel Sanders and Zilisch all in attendance. In that moment, a reel posted by NASCAR and Team Trackhouse captured a conversation between the NASCAR driver and the F1 driver. Zilisch leaned on his car and asked Verstappen, 'You wanna get in?'. Max Verstappen didn't hesitate: 'I mean, I would like to do it.' Advertisement Naturally, that was all it took to set social media ablaze. CBS Sports' Steven Taranto wrote on X, 'I lean more towards this being just chit-chat among racers. But part of me wants to say that Trackhouse wouldn't have posted Max Verstappen expressing interest in getting in a NASCAR car if there wasn't a sliver of a chance of it actually happening.' Also Read:: Leaked Video May Have Spoiled Ram's NASCAR Comeback Ahead of Big Weekend Still, it wouldn't be a total long shot. Max Verstappen and Conor Zilisch are both Red Bull athletes. With that in mind and with Red Bull returning to NASCAR through Trackhouse, the brand has more reason than ever to make some crossover magic happen. Advertisement Zilisch is 18 and already on Trackhouse's development path. He's running full-time in the Xfinity Series and set for a few Cup starts this year. The Verstappen link may seem like a pipe dream but it fits his criteria. He said before that anything outside of F1 has to make sense , something competitive, meaningful and not just for show. Trackhouse has already brought in stars like Kimi Räikkönen and Shane van Gisbergen. So, a test with a legit operation with them would check those boxes. In that context, Max Verstappen stepping into a NASCAR seat could be part of a broader pattern of crossover opportunities that Red Bull, uniquely, is in a position to facilitate. Exciting news: Right-hand drive American pickups and muscle cars now available in Mzansi
The Chevrolet Camaro can now be ordered in right-hand drive. Like America, there's nothing small about them, and thanks to a venture between Rospa International and Autogroup International (AGI), South African American car fans can now legally register and own them. Looking for a right-hand drive American pickup or muscle car, fancy a Dodge Challenger or Charger, perhaps a Chevy Camaro or Toyota Tundra? Classics Durban-based Rospa International has built a reputation for importing classic and sports cars into the local market. Until now they have mainly been sourced from Japan for local enthusiasts and include Nissan GT-Rs, Honda NSXs, Toyota AE86s and Mazda RX-7s. AGI was founded in Australia more than 30 years ago. They started off by converting a 1993 GMC Sierra pickup truck from left to right-hand drive. That started a worldwide business that converts American-made SUVs, muscle cars, and pickup trucks. Desirable Many desirable cars in right-hand drive markets like ourselves are not available, mostly because the demand is not high enough for manufacturers to justify spending millions of dollars in research and development and reengineering and retooling components. The only right-hand drive Muscle Car available in South Africa is the Ford Mustang GT and Mustang Dark Horse. The partnership between AGI and Rospa means that many American pickup trucks, SUVs as well as muscle and sports cars will be available for potential buyers. These range from the latest Hummer EV and Toyota Tundra Hybrid to super pickups such as the GMC Sierra and many more.
